In preparation for the site Upgrades and Fixes the Technical staff has requested a temporary halt on submissions. Therefore, starting at midnight EST on the 26th of March until the upgrade is complete; SIYE will not be accepting any submissions. This will give the Archivists time to empty the queue before turning the site over to our Technical staff.

To all of our Validated authors: At the risk of losing your validation privileges, please refrain from updating anything during this time period. I have it on good authority that doing so will create problems. The least of which your work being lost.

Thank you for your understanding and patience.

Aww, dangit I was going to post the first chapter of my new story tonight! I guess I can wait another day...I don't want to lose my validation privileges (eep!) :)

Professor Scroll came out of the woodwork on 2006.03.26 - 05:45PM to say:

brittpinkie Sorry about that. I always look forward to your ssubmissions. Don't want you to hurry your work. But can't you have it posted before midnight?

Spenser Hemmingway came out of the woodwork on 2006.03.26 - 09:50PM to say:

I just made it with my latest, although Wayne Newton might wish I hadn't. It appears that we are making good progress off the validation pile with some interesting stories. Eric B.

chrissyann came out of the woodwork on 2006.03.27 - 03:13AM to say:

Not really about the topic at hand but I was wondering who we contact when there might be a case of story stealing?

bibliophile19 came out of the woodwork on 2006.03.27 - 10:03AM to say:

Plagiarism? Contact the Admins: Professor Scroll, Lord Dreadnault, Sir Ollivander, and RyokoTenchi in an email with the details; DO NOT contact the suspected thief or start flaming them.

Ginny511 came out of the woodwork on 2006.03.27 - 07:56PM to say:

Thats too bad well it gives me time to work on my story!

brittpinkie came out of the woodwork on 2006.03.27 - 09:38PM to say:

Well, I couldn't make it before midnight, but that's okay...now I'll have more chapters ready to post when we're back open. Thanks Prof. Scroll :)

Only the tech's can tell us. It won't be before they have everything as error free as possible.

Grimmrook came out of the woodwork on 2006.03.27 - 11:37PM to say:

Just as well, my next story is killing me... And that's with now three betas trying to help me through it. Maybe I should just stick with fluff.

DQBunny came out of the woodwork on 2006.03.29 - 02:35AM to say:

Eek! How sad, Grimmrook! What's troubling you about it?

Soccer Devil22 came out of the woodwork on 2006.03.29 - 08:59AM to say:

Only the tech's can tell us. It won't be before they have everything as error free as possible. - Professor Scroll (2006.03.27 - 10:07PM)

Well tell them to get bloody on it already!

Spenser Hemmingway came out of the woodwork on 2006.03.29 - 10:23AM to say:

Patience people. My wife is a computer programmer/analyst at the local college, in addition to teaching mathematics there. If I was left-brained too (and wanted to bore you to tears), I could post her stories about what it takes to keep good computer systems operating properly. Just chasing the gremlins around the complex with a net takes a good portion of her mornings. Our technicians always take good care of us as well. I promise, when the submissions begin coming to us again, we will shift into high gear to have them properly validated in a timely manner. Eric B.

Grimmrook came out of the woodwork on 2006.03.29 - 10:30AM to say:

Ah, DQ, it's just the mode. My first two stories were just loaded with fluff, and this one is considerably darker, and I'm trying to explore emotions that Harry really hasn't explored much of. Right now the bigges question is whether or not to bin the entire first chapter. I was up till 2:30 this morning working on the third chapter, and got a pretty emotional response as I was writing it, so that's a good sign! It'll still be at least a week before I'm done with it though, and that's being very hopeful.

Grimmrook came out of the woodwork on 2006.03.29 - 11:38AM to say:

To back Spense up a little bit, I have to say that this site is awesome in that it has that perfect mix of expeditious approval, while still actually holding the authors to standards of quality. That's pretty rare, and I think worth the wait, really. Trust me, there's been some sites you could post now, and not hear back until weeks after when whenever SIYE comes back up for posting. Dreadful.

Professor Scroll came out of the woodwork on 2006.03.29 - 01:14PM to say:

Thank you for your kind words and patience. Believe me, they are working around the clock. Everytime I need to contact them, whether it is 3am or 3pm, they are sitting in front of their computer looking at code, I'm not sure when they're sleeping. It will be much easier corraling those gremlins before we begin uploading new stories.

We all understand that it is frustrating when you're writing something new and you're not sure how it is going to be recieved. I chew my nails as I anxiously wait for the first review on each new story.

DQBunny came out of the woodwork on 2006.03.29 - 03:59PM to say:

Spenser - My brother is a programmer for IBM, so I understand exactly what you're going through. I'd rather have everything done right than run into problems that result in SIYE being down for a further amount of time. It's less headace in the longrun. Grimmrook - Good for you! Don't ever be afraid about scrapping a chapter. I've scrapped entire chapter-long stories before because I was able to come up with something stronger. There are times when you need to get that first idea on paper before you are able to proceed with the one that you'll actually stick with. That's what happened with me the other night. I kept having visions of Ginny and Tonks investigating a murder scene (a combination of reading "Justice" on this site again and too much J.D. Robb) and wound up sketching out a series of Ginny-led murder mysteries. If you do scrap the chapter though, be sure to save it. Some of the elements could probably be recycled into future chapters, revisions or another story completely.

DQBunny came out of the woodwork on 2006.03.29 - 04:00PM to say:

Er...headace = headache. I can spell. Really. Just not when I first wake up.

lecook4 came out of the woodwork on 2006.03.29 - 04:05PM to say:

Just curious, are they just archiving and preparing for the upgrades, or are they actually doing the upgrades that you had several people testing? I am curious about what you were going to change. I can't wait to see what you have done with the site.

Sir Ollivander came out of the woodwork on 2006.03.29 - 07:09PM to say:

Lecook4 & all - Merlin! Are you all in for a surprise!!! We ARE upgrading!

Grimmrook came out of the woodwork on 2006.03.29 - 07:19PM to say:

Thanks DQ. Actually, depending on how well received that story goes, I may post it as a kind of special features epilogue (which is funny since the name of the piece will be "Epilogues Part I"). If it is as warmly received as Right Here and One Good Day were, than I'll probably post that first chapter, just so people could see how it started. It's also funny you mention the murder mystery thing because the third part to "Epilogues" Will indeed be a murder mystery, but at the rate I'm going, that'll probably come months down the line.

On a completely different note, I like the stopped submissions. It narrows the field and makes it likely I'll pick up a trinket nomination! Yeah, I'm petty. J/K

Grimmrook came out of the woodwork on 2006.03.29 - 07:19PM to say:

Er... More likely. I harbor no dellusions whatsoever.

AdminQ came out of the woodwork on 2006.03.29 - 07:28PM to say:

Oh my oh my you are all just chomping at the bit to see the new site huh? To answer our esteemed P Scroll, the tech staff working with me sleeps, just like I do in 2 to 3 hour bursts, and the rest of the time is caffeene and code. I wanted to address something. I stopped submissions, so I had time to make sure that nothing was lost in the upgrade. The site code, is almost the same....almost. I may have added a few "minor" things here and there. The testers bless em all helped me fish out glitches and bugs. I know there will be more, but I have things in place to correct them quickly and with little fuss. Just a little while longer, news to come soon. Is it me or does anyone else think maybe a forum would be cool to have?
-Steve(AdminQ)

lecook4 came out of the woodwork on 2006.03.29 - 07:55PM to say:

Yes to forum as long as it is controlled and no one uses it as a place to rant.

DQBunny came out of the woodwork on 2006.03.29 - 07:56PM to say:

You know, I was just about to suggest a forum when I was writing my earlier reply to Grimmrook and Spenser. I think it would be very cool to have a forum, especially looking at the conversation as it's taken place in these comments.

Grimmrook, I do recommend the "In Death" series by J.D. Robb (aka Nora Roberts,) There's 25-26 books in it so far and it's highly addictive.

AdminQ came out of the woodwork on 2006.03.29 - 08:58PM to say:

lecook4, and DQ. I agree, I think we need one for just fiction related material. I would have to have some forum mods to help me, looks like I may have another job drive hehe. 1st I have to make the front end, and boards though huh?

-Steve(AdminQ)

lecook4 came out of the woodwork on 2006.03.29 - 09:27PM to say:

I doubt you would have much trouble getting mods. Just the opposite probably. :-) I wouldn't mind helping depending on how much time needs to be devoted to it. Work has been a real bugger bear and I haven't had a lot of time. Hence my next chapter taking ages to post. LOL! Will offer though. Seems only fair to help, given how much fun this site has brought me.

DQBunny came out of the woodwork on 2006.03.29 - 10:50PM to say:

I wouldn't mind helping out with a forum either. It'd be a lot of fun and I think I would love chatting with the other folks at SIYE through it - staring story ideas, frustrations, reviews, etc.
