June Dumbledore Silver Trinket Awards Poll
There were quite a few competitors for the coveted awards this time. In the original set of polls, I made a mistake and put in every nominee instead of the just the top 10 and as such, created a complete mess with the code for Steve and his staff to fix. If you don’t see your name under a certain category that means that unfortunately, you were not in the top 10. But, I didn’t see anyone that didn’t make at least one category. If you recall the old polls, the same names and stories were in almost every category.

The polls have been entered again. Hopefully, the third times the charm.

Please take this time to vote. No one should get the message that they have already voted, if you do, please let me know and I will add your votes manually. There are seven (7) polls, one for each category. Please make sure that you select ‘vote’ before going on to the next page. The poll will be up until Wednesday, July 19.

Congratulations to all who have received a nomination and good luck to everyone.

VOTE HERE

Thank you for your patience and support. Please don’t forget to nominate your favourite stories for July.

Spenser Hemmingway came out of the woodwork on 2006.07.11 - 01:09AM to say:

We seem to have some great candidates this month, and I am sorry that I was not able to contribute a story for June. Please take some time to see how our staff has improved the Trinket system (dramatically). We only ask that you read and vote for what you feel is the better story (but pay attention where it mentions that second page of nominees). Great luck to all our entries! Further good wishes to those who have noticed that July is upon us now. It is a season to write. Excelsior! Eric B.

lecook4 came out of the woodwork on 2006.07.11 - 09:26AM to say:

Don't know if it is something I did, but I scrolled through all the categories first, but when I went back to vote it wouldn't give me the second page on the ones with two pages. Just FYI. It was probably me.

melindaleo came out of the woodwork on 2006.07.11 - 09:30AM to say:

Uhm...I can see the two pages on some of the categories, but do you know it allows you to vote twice in the same category if it goes to two pages? Just FYI. Also - thanks so much for the nominations. They are greatly appreciated. I'm thrilled.

Spenser Hemmingway came out of the woodwork on 2006.07.11 - 09:53AM to say:

Knowing our resdent Wizards, I am almost certain that you cannot vote twice in the same catagory, even with a second page. Of course, SIYE only attracts the most honest of members who would never consider such a thing. Also, once you have submitted your ballot, the system is supposed to recognize that computer's I.P. address and stop mutiple voting in that regard as well. This may be a bit of a challenge for wives, siblings, etc. that share the same computer, but it really is necessary to keep the Death Eaters from flooding the ballot box. I am sure that AdminQ would be able to address any specific questions that you may have. Eric B.

KEDme came out of the woodwork on 2006.07.11 - 10:04AM to say:

I, for one, can attest to the fact that the system is letting people vote twice for certain categories that have two pages resulting in an uneven distribution of votes for the category. I, myself accidently voted twice and they system accepted both votes. This issue really should be addressed for the sake of fairness. And I think that Melindaleo is showing a great deal of honesty and responsibility in bringing this glitch to the attention of the admin of SIYE.

KEDme came out of the woodwork on 2006.07.11 - 10:25AM to say:

FYI... the categories with two pages have different vote totals. The system is recognizing each page as a separate category instead of a continuation of the same category.

lecook4 came out of the woodwork on 2006.07.11 - 11:26AM to say:

Yeah, when I got to work I went in to see if it stopped me from clicking back on the second page, and this time it did force me to vote on the first and second pages as two different categories. I voted twice playing with it since I was on a second computer. I'm not trying to get by with anything, just seeing if there really was a problem and there seems to be. I don't want to get votes just cause I'm on the second page and not included with those on the first page. It wouldn't be fair. I feel bad cause I'm not sure those votes are really for me or just cause it's acting like a different category. Eric and AdminQ you know I only want the votes that are really for me. You probably should take one off of both my entries since I voted twice btw. :-) This is such a super way to vote, I hope the two page thing can be corrected. You guys doing the tech stuff are brilliant.

ChickenIsGood came out of the woodwork on 2006.07.11 - 02:41PM to say:

Hmmm... it won't let me vote for best overall even though I haven't cast a vote there yet... Also the two pages aren't working out as previously noted. All that aside there are some good nominees and relatively even totals so far.

Spenser Hemmingway came out of the woodwork on 2006.07.11 - 04:19PM to say:

The staff is definitely listening to your concerns, and they are working on every glitch. Last month AdminQ showed up on my front doorstep and hit me with a large stick (kiln-dried hickory) several times for trying to submit fifty-three votes for my own story. I can barely spell "computer" on a good day, but I know that all issues will be resolved. By the way...it is really bad to give your slow computer hot coffee (despite what the Kowtowing Toadies tell you). Eric B.

moshpit came out of the woodwork on 2006.07.11 - 04:30PM to say:

While I'd like to thank people for nominating me, I would agree that the tallies are an issue. To be fair (even though I think Viridan / Melindaleo / Beng will sweep all categories they are in...), is it possible to not display two pages -- we all do have scroll bars, after all. Just display all choices for each category on one page. Then the problem goes away. As much of a headache as it might be, if you can come up with a fix (preferrably just one page per category), then you might consider resetting the votes and starting over. I think most people will be understanding of working out the kinks in a new system.

lecook4 came out of the woodwork on 2006.07.11 - 04:48PM to say:

I agree with Moshpit - once its fixed it might be the fairest thing to start over. Of course, by saying that I'm probably cutting my own throat, since I'm up against Moshpit in one of the categories. :-) I love your story btw.

AdminQ came out of the woodwork on 2006.07.11 - 08:09PM to say:

Im workin on it I think the glitches are ironed out, so now I will wait until our Trinket Mistress tells me she added what was missing nomination wise, and opens the polls again, bewarned until she says so, if you vote before that, all votes will be reset. =)

Professor Scroll came out of the woodwork on 2006.07.11 - 09:58PM to say:

Sorry, for the glitch. I've been away from the computer all day, but now that the glitches are ironed out, I will make sure all of the nominees are there and have the poll reopened. Hopefully, it shouldn't take too long to have the polls reset.

lecook4 came out of the woodwork on 2006.07.11 - 10:52PM to say:

I really hate to be the bearer of bad news but it didn't register three of my votes and it won't let me vote again. Best Romance, Best Angst and Best Action/Adventure do not show my votes. I can tell because the authors are not even listed. Not sure what this means,

lecook4 came out of the woodwork on 2006.07.11 - 10:56PM to say:

You can tell by the total number of votes and the breakdown by author. They don't match. Somethings not showing. Please don't shoot the messenger. :-(

AdminQ came out of the woodwork on 2006.07.11 - 11:06PM to say:

No No need The script went all nuts when I changed the code, Im still working on it.

greybackfenrir came out of the woodwork on 2006.07.11 - 11:25PM to say:

Wow! Thanx for my two nominations to whomever was nice enough to do so! : )

Khrys came out of the woodwork on 2006.07.12 - 12:25AM to say:

So, I voted before coming here and seeing what was going on. My votes didn't show up either. Should I worry about re-voting a second time?

moshpit came out of the woodwork on 2006.07.12 - 12:35AM to say:

Well, what exactly does this mean? If I might suggest something, take down the polls publicly, and put up a note about "Problems being resolved" -- and then do a test-run just among the nominees and a few volunteers to make sure it all works right? Otherwise you'll just wind up doing a "Polls reset, please vote again!" multiple times, confusing the masses. (Not that I think the readers here are sheep like I think of the magical folk in JKR's canon or anything :) -- Oh, lecook4 - thanks for the kind comment. Ch11 (for the record) has been in beta for a few days, but Real Life with the betas and I is interferring. Now that I'm available, my second beta is visiting relatives and behind a slow dial-up.

moshpit came out of the woodwork on 2006.07.12 - 12:38AM to say:

Err, right. Just for amusement, I ran through the poll. Something's fishy here. (Secretly, I suspect a plot amongst the house elves running the site. They have already decided who will win, and are ignoring votes counter to their wishes... bwahahahaha.)

cwarbeck came out of the woodwork on 2006.07.12 - 06:40AM to say:

Yes, there is something definitely weird going on. I voted (again), but when I try to view the results, only one or two names come out with the number of votes that they've received. Not like in previous DSTA's when all the names are shown with the appropriate number of votes that they've gotten. What's going on? Hope things get sorted out soon!

Professor Scroll came out of the woodwork on 2006.07.12 - 07:22AM to say:

I am going to delete the current poll and start from scratch. Sorry for the confusion. Valerie

Chris Widger came out of the woodwork on 2006.07.12 - 09:19AM to say:

Good, I was getting worried because I accidentally voted twice.

iluvginny came out of the woodwork on 2006.07.12 - 05:29PM to say:

umm.. im new were do i vote??

AdminQ came out of the woodwork on 2006.07.12 - 05:56PM to say:

iluvginny - Once its ready the link to vote will appear in the story. all others I have reset the script. It will allow 10 Choices per category no more. The top ten is who gets voted on, this isnt the fault of Valerie who wanted to take the top nominees, but mine for merging code and not getting this done faster. Please send all flames to me :-) Steve

iluvginny came out of the woodwork on 2006.07.12 - 06:46PM to say:

ok thanks

Urzathewalker came out of the woodwork on 2006.07.12 - 08:39PM to say:

so there is no link to the voting on the main page or anything? you have to go through a story to get there?

loki came out of the woodwork on 2006.07.12 - 08:39PM to say:

I blame PhoenixAeternum, its all his fault...well everything is his fault so this shouldn't be any different. ;) Not a sermon, just a thought. Loki

Professor Scroll came out of the woodwork on 2006.07.13 - 12:57AM to say:

Urzathewalker to vote for the month of June, there is now a link on the home page. To nominate for the current month, you do it through their stories.

PhoenixAeternum came out of the woodwork on 2006.07.13 - 03:34AM to say:

Thanks for the support, Lokifucup. If we really need someone to take the blame for this; well... I'm your go-to guy. Let's just say that I shared a bottle of Kowtowing Ale with the code and -- poof! All went to hell.

cwarbeck came out of the woodwork on 2006.07.13 - 04:23AM to say:

Um, okay. Is it only me but after I vote and click the link to view the results, I keep getting the choices again. But that's only for certain categories like Best Overall and Best Author. The results for the other categories show up all right.

lecook4 came out of the woodwork on 2006.07.13 - 07:41AM to say:

Yeah! It worked for me. Hope this time it all goes okay.

Thank you to everyone who nominated me or voted for me. It's a real compliment to see my story here among so many other fantastic authors. I am humbled at the thought someone would nominate me. Thank you doesn't seem sufficient.

Torak came out of the woodwork on 2006.07.14 - 09:55PM to say:

Not quite sure how mine got nominated, but thanks anyway!

LilyEvansPotter15 came out of the woodwork on 2006.07.15 - 07:43PM to say:

Thanks for the nom! -LilyEvansPotter15
