Yay every winner esp. Breanie!

Congrats to everyone! Breanie, you wiped the awards clean this month! Great job to Melinda too, I'm crossing my fingers that you win the Competition!! -Alex

GinnyMarie came out of the woodwork on 2007.01.08 - 06:15AM to say:

congrats everyone....especially Breanie...dang, girl...winner in four catagories, and then winner of the best author...good job!

melindaleo came out of the woodwork on 2007.01.08 - 09:22AM to say:

Congratulations to all the winners and the nominees! A special kudos to cwarbeck who had my favorite story this month. Thanks for the support, and the call out, Alex!

loki came out of the woodwork on 2007.01.08 - 10:37AM to say:

Can someone say ballot stuffing? Not a sermon, just a thought.

hjp74 came out of the woodwork on 2007.01.08 - 01:03PM to say:

well done to all the winners & it god to see some new winners

we9ge came out of the woodwork on 2007.01.08 - 02:31PM to say:

Why wasn't Taking Control eligible? It is my favorite story right now although these were good. I voted because it wasn't there but if I'm voting for what I think is the best story and it isn't on the list I think it isn't much of a vote. Congrats to the winners though as your stories are terrific!

we9ge came out of the woodwork on 2007.01.08 - 02:37PM to say:

So because of all of the complaining this was the solution??? So this month's winners won't be eligible next month??? Taking Control is the story that made me keep visiting this site regularly and it has not won in the same category twice. This means that it isn't exactly dominating the awards. If you're going to do this to the Trinkets don't even have them!!!

we9ge came out of the woodwork on 2007.01.08 - 02:43PM to say:

Sorry for my rant. I don't agree with the rules but Breanie deserves the recognition as it is an excellent story and certainly one of my favorites. Congrats again to all of the winners!!!!!!!!!!!

ambush came out of the woodwork on 2007.01.08 - 02:46PM to say:

Yay for Breanie! I have been waiting for ANew Beginning to get some awards as it is such a brilliant story! Well done all the others who got awards and were nominated! :D

Sovran came out of the woodwork on 2007.01.08 - 02:53PM to say:

we9ge - I'm not sure what 'solution' you're referring to. But because fake a smile didn't post a chapter of Taking Control in December, he wasn't eligible for the December awards. It's just that simple. I'm sure that if he had posted, he would have been on the ballot as usual.

carolquin came out of the woodwork on 2007.01.08 - 03:05PM to say:

Congrats to all the winners!! Out of all the fanfic sites, SIYE truly is the best one out there. The quality of the stories that are posted on this site is evident. Can someone explain to me how the voting works? Do you have to be nominated by more than 1 person to be in the running?

we9ge came out of the woodwork on 2007.01.08 - 03:07PM to say:

Well I might be wrong but there were complaints about the same stories winning the awards and rule changes were mentioned. I believe I replied that stories will get their recognition if they're good. If the no update no eligibility has been a rule then it's not a good one. It seems to me that the complaint that the same stories won awards hasn't been solved with a near sweep this month. If Taking Control got the nominations it should have been eligible. It's certainly not abandoned.

melindaleo came out of the woodwork on 2007.01.08 - 03:11PM to say:

we9ge - the rules have been the same since the trinkets began - in order to be eligible for that month's awards, a story needs to be updated during that same month. I'd suggest perhaps checking the facts before ranting in a public forum.

we9ge came out of the woodwork on 2007.01.08 - 04:01PM to say:

I sincerely apologize to anyone that I may have offended. I had no way of knowing that the rules have never changed. Since there seemed to be a campaign to change the rules last month I was questioning if they were. I am not taking anything away from the winners but merely wanting to vote for my favorite story. I apologize again!!!

carolquin came out of the woodwork on 2007.01.08 - 05:49PM to say:

I remember when I first joined SIYE, there was a posting about possibly changing the rules on the Trinket awards. That was a few months ago so we9ge is not totally wrong. However, nothing did ever come of that...or anything siginificant that I've seen.

cwarbeck came out of the woodwork on 2007.01.08 - 06:14PM to say:

Thanks again to everyone, and congrats to all the other winners. Thanks melindaleo for the special kudos. That means a lot to me, coming from a writer like you. :)

AdminQ came out of the woodwork on 2007.01.08 - 07:25PM to say:

The DSTA was never supposed to be a popularity vote. The results for the last 2 quarters of 2006 showed that we took the advice of the users, and opinions of the authors and made changes. Some of the changes and suggestions came from authors who won over and over, and some of those same authors asked they be exempt from awards, just to give others a shot.

We never stopped working on what the DSTA can be, or what it should be, none of the suggestions were ignored, and I have litterly hundreds of emails from the staff list to show that it is and was a serious debate. The goals for the DSTA were to not only improve the quality of the works published, but to show a wider variety of stories on the site. One other rarely mentioned goal was to stamp out abandoned works, and stories. To nudge authors to keep writing, and keep working. To improve and excel in the art. Anyone who has ever attempted to author a story knows just how hard it is to publish a quality story. Ask this months winners, they will tell you it takes work, and I bet if asked to critique their own words, they would find flaws, mistakes, and other things at fault. The point, is no one person here is perfect, and no matter how we try, we cant please everyone.

While we know that we cant it doesn't mean we don't look long at hard at ways to make everyone happy. We added a section to the DSTA because it was asked for. We added functions and features to the site because you thought they would make it better. How many other fiction sites basically design, develop and create for the sole reason of making its users feel more at home? How many other sites go to the length to even attempt a DSTA like contest? There are others sure, but everyone I see is always a popularity contest, and the admins pick winners, not the readers. Here its the reader, 100% who votes and chooses the winner.

For taking the time to voice your thoughts, even if a public place was not the venue for such opinions, I thank you we9ge. You were not ignored, and your ideas were included in some drafts of how the DSTA will work in the future. To the others, I'm just tickled to see authors posting, and to see that you like the enough to contribute to it.

Thanks,
Steve

we9ge came out of the woodwork on 2007.01.08 - 08:20PM to say:

I'm sorry again!! I love this site so much!! No, the reason I keep coming to this site is not this one story. It is what made me come to this site every day when it was first posted. Then I have probably read most of the stories on the site. The onlly reason I questioned the rules in the first place is that I nominated and wanted to vote for what I feel is the best story I've ever read. I've read thousands and for over a year! This is my favorite site and please don't hate me. If needed I'll write "I won't make comments" with a blood quill. Despite how I sounded, I've been to this site every day for about the last six months. I've also been a member for the last year. I agree that there was no ballot box stuffing for Breanie as that story is certainly deserving of awards. All authors deserve multitudes of praise as I myself have not submitted a story. Thank you for the hours of enjoyment that you have provided to all of us!!!

Bloodflower came out of the woodwork on 2007.01.08 - 09:20PM to say:

Congratulations to Breanie, whose near-sweep is perhaps the closest we've yet had to the real thing. Congratulations to Sovran, who had the highest percentage-win this month. Congratulations to Melinda, who got what she deserved with the one-shot win. And congratulations to everyone else who beat me this month, and condolences to the very few who didn't. Days are made by moments as these.

we9ge came out of the woodwork on 2007.01.08 - 10:26PM to say:

When did I ever say that the contest wasn't aboveboard??!!? I only stated that I didn't like the rules and questioned if they were changed for this month. That is no way saying that someone manipulated the results. Wow was that misinterpreted!

Mojomig came out of the woodwork on 2007.01.09 - 07:18AM to say:

I'd like to thank those of you who nominated and voted for my silly cow story, Pull the Udder One. I've only been writing since last November and this was only the second thing I ever posted. Coming fourth in the vote was like winning for me, and great motivation to keep writing.

carolquin came out of the woodwork on 2007.01.09 - 08:07AM to say:

I want to go on record to say that I LOVE THIS SITE. The fact that people can post opinions, even if others don't agree, is amazing. We all share, discuss, dissect, and then move on. I think the awards are great and Steve is right, there is no other site that makes the writers and readers truly feel they are part of one big family. I never really knew how the DSTA worked so I went back to the archives and found the rules. To be in the running you have to be in the top 10 of all the vote getters. That makes sense to me. However, I work long hours and also take care of my mom. I don't get a chance to read a lot of the stories here. Steve, what if there was a link that showed all the stories that were nominated each month? We don't have to show how many votes they received. I personally would love something like this because then I would have a list of stories to choose from. Stories that some readers thought were good enough to honor. Also, it's a way for other readers to be publicly acknowledged. Just my thoughts...

we9ge came out of the woodwork on 2007.01.09 - 03:29PM to say:

great idea carolquin. I will check out any stories that I can vote for in the DSTAs. I'm always looking for those that I may have missed.

The Magic Geeks came out of the woodwork on 2007.01.09 - 04:57PM to say:

Allow me to clarify a few points:
A story can be nominated for a given month if it was updated in the last 5 days of the previous month or in the current month. (A story that is ineligible will not display a nomination link, a story that is eligible for two months simultaneously will display the link for the earlier month)

There are two variations from the Top 10 nominations make the ballot:
Firstly a story must obtain a minimum of 3 nominations to be on the ballot
Secondly, the number '10' will vary. The actual number is chosen on a per category basis, such the number is closest to 10, either including or excluding all stories that tied for the final position on the ballot.

@carolquin: All stories that have been previously nominated, regardless of whether they made the ballot, are listed, by month, in the Trophy Room. Listed in the Trophy room are also the stories that made the monthly ballot, and the final outcomes of each historical ballot.

lecook4 came out of the woodwork on 2007.01.09 - 10:01PM to say:

I want to apologize publicly to we9ge and the site in general for my comments, which I have removed from this page. Monday, Jan 8th was an unusually horrific day personally, and I admit I was overly sensitive to begin with, and then I read the negative remarks about the voting. I know how hard the Admins work to make everyone satisfied with this site, and I unleashed my unpleasant mood on my fellow members. I've been sitting up in the attic with Buckbeak, embarrassed by my apparent overreaction and wanted to say I'm sorry to anyone I offended. That’s not normally me, and the only excuse I can offer is the war got to me, and I had a moment of madness. I promise next time to count to ten before I pull out my quill.

we9ge came out of the woodwork on 2007.01.09 - 10:58PM to say:

Accepted lecok4!! I have had a week from hell as well and will think before I write or at least try that thing called tact in the future. Breanie- I have found your story to be original and fun to read. It always makes me feel good. Well deserved accolades!!!

Spenser Hemmingway came out of the woodwork on 2007.01.10 - 12:44AM to say:

I am so upset! Happy Feet may not be nominated for the Academy Awards! The little guys are all ready for the show, complete with their little tuxedoes (sans ties). Lesson learned...let's enjoy the tap-dancing before we worry about the choreography at some ceremony. Place your fingers on that keyboard, take a deep breath, and then see how you feel at the end of the day with a wonderful submission. The Trinkets will come when the Trinkets are ready. Mirth beyond measure is man's greatest treasure! Eric B.

Victor Aagaard came out of the woodwork on 2007.01.13 - 03:56PM to say:

Congratulations to all! Loki, I've heard those radio commercials, and hated just about all of them. :-)
