Annual SIYE Donation Drive
STOP!! We have now met the goal and then some. The extra after paying the bills will go to pay the domain registrar and secure the domain names for another 2 years.

I personally on behalf of the staff thank you for helping us with donations. I just cant say it enough.

The hosting and equipment will be covered now for another year. Thank you again. Also please note, while the link is up, there is no need to donate unless you want too.

All payments made from this day forward will go towards SIYE's host and used as a credit for next year. (Because I cant register domains for 10 years thats just silly, we might change names :-) Again thank you!

-Steve

Sovran came out of the woodwork on 2007.01.09 - 11:20AM to say:

Well, that's an easy sell.

Sibling Creature came out of the woodwork on 2007.01.09 - 12:25PM to say:

*returns from paypal site* done. :-) As a matter of interest, whats the target amount? If you don't mind me asking?

Victor Aagaard came out of the woodwork on 2007.01.09 - 03:57PM to say:

Good luck keeping the server up. As for donations, I'll do whatever I can, but I don't think it's going to be much. Sorry.

sideline came out of the woodwork on 2007.01.09 - 07:02PM to say:

Give what you can folks.

lecook4 came out of the woodwork on 2007.01.09 - 10:17PM to say:

Done! :-) Wish it could be more, but that's the best I can do for now. Good luck raising the funds. I know we definitely need the upgrade.

Chreechree came out of the woodwork on 2007.01.10 - 10:19PM to say:

How long will the fund drive last this year? That might be helpful information especially as some of us might be recovering financially from Christmas. Otheriwse, everyone give give give!

AdminQ came out of the woodwork on 2007.01.11 - 12:46AM to say:

The drive will last until 100% of donations are reached. The bill is due in March. I have posted a graph to show the % of donations received. So far we are at about 17% that I have recorded, however I have not checked the account today. Everyone who has donated so far, we thank you. It is your help that will keep us alive.

lecook4 came out of the woodwork on 2007.01.11 - 08:11AM to say:

I like the graph. Let's everyone know how we are doing. Great idea. 20.6% so far - that's super!

_kb_ came out of the woodwork on 2007.01.12 - 01:29AM to say:

As someone else asked, what is the target amount? Or, for the ~7000 members, if we were all equally rich, how much would be asked for? That might challenge me to give double to cover someone else, you never know. :-)

AdminQ came out of the woodwork on 2007.01.13 - 05:06PM to say:

I've updated the stats page. Moved the news item again, and I will post the newest donation results tonight. -Steve

Victor Aagaard came out of the woodwork on 2007.01.13 - 06:00PM to say:

Question: is there any way to help besides paying?

aprilmoon92 came out of the woodwork on 2007.01.13 - 07:48PM to say:

Yeah, same question as Victor, because I'm a kid and don't have any paypal cash.

Victor Aagaard came out of the woodwork on 2007.01.13 - 08:07PM to say:

Yuppers. Three years until I can so much as get a checking account.

AdminQ came out of the woodwork on 2007.01.13 - 08:49PM to say:

Maybe someone will step in and donate just a little more because you two can't. However, the fact you two visit the site and promote it you do help. Each member we have is mostly word of mouth. The more stories we house, the higher we rank on search engines. That helps too. Link to us, grab one of the banners and tell every one about us. That is one way to help without spending cash. - Steve

sideline came out of the woodwork on 2007.01.13 - 09:35PM to say:

Have you considered running AdWords to help defer the costs of hosting? They could be placed in the page footer above disclaimer and copyright information without detracting from page aesthetics (I'm not sure if Google Terms demand a specific location).

Victor Aagaard came out of the woodwork on 2007.01.13 - 09:39PM to say:

Thank you. Good luck! Almost halfway!

AdminQ came out of the woodwork on 2007.01.13 - 10:02PM to say:

That has often been talked about on the site. Google allows me to place ads anywhere. However they must be clicked on for it to matter. The other thing is personally I refuse to place ads on a site. I don't like them, I rarely click them, unless I know they help a site and I like that site, even then its rare. Plus the payout for that program is small. Good idea none the less if there was a way to allow them to be turned on and off at will, and there was a better ROI.

carolquin came out of the woodwork on 2007.01.13 - 10:25PM to say:

It's not much but I was more than happy to contribute to this fantastic site. Since the drive will continue for a while I'm sure I should be able to make another donation next pay cycle. Have you guys also thought about setting up a "MYSPACE" page for SIYE?

AdminQ came out of the woodwork on 2007.01.13 - 11:35PM to say:

I have thought about it. However my real list job is Network Security. MySpace isn't safe, in fact right this moment there are confirmed exploits harming computers on it. I cant subject our users to that. If they cleaned up the site, and closed some security issues, yes I would place SIYE stuff on networking portals. MySpace, and other places come to mind.

Ginnyrules came out of the woodwork on 2007.01.14 - 05:00AM to say:

Oo, like the teaser, cant wait for it now! Wont say my guess so as not to ruin it for the others. Though I am curious as to what OS you use?

Professor Scroll came out of the woodwork on 2007.01.14 - 02:36PM to say:

Back from Paypal myself. Every little bit helps. I agree with Steve that I rarely click on a link, and I must confess to have never visiting a 'myspace' page. No time lately for just surfing - although that is how I found SIYE in the first place. Once you've been to the best, you don't need to continue to search.

Victor Aagaard came out of the woodwork on 2007.01.14 - 02:39PM to say:

Amen to that.

AdminQ came out of the woodwork on 2007.01.14 - 03:07PM to say:

Ginnyrules: The OS I use? I use two of them currently. Windows XP Pro, and right now on my laptop thanks to a good friend I am testing Ubuntu Linux. Ive been known to use just about every OS there is.

In the teaser for Phoenix, the project for the tech team, it is funny you asked about OS, so close Ginnyrules, so very close. I will call you Ravenclaw.

Victor Aagaard came out of the woodwork on 2007.01.14 - 07:07PM to say:

Heheheh. Past halfway - I'm impressed.

DQBunny came out of the woodwork on 2007.01.15 - 01:44PM to say:

Though, Steve, I am a firm advocate of Mac OS X just to throw my towel in with the non-Windows users. ;) Ease of use rules!

Well, put my hundred in. An excellent site, and proud to help support it. Not the best writer, or adds shamefully, reviewer, but hopefully this will satify my concious on supporting my favorite site. Ja ne Jim

melindaleo came out of the woodwork on 2007.01.17 - 06:05PM to say:

Okay, that wasn't hard at all. Hope it helps and you can quickly reach the goal.

Sovran came out of the woodwork on 2007.01.22 - 08:54AM to say:

I really like the new 'Completed Reads' feature! I've already found three good stories that I had not read before. Keep up the good work.

lecook4 came out of the woodwork on 2007.01.22 - 07:24PM to say:

Fantastic add ons. I love being able to see all of the summary. Can't wait until everything is upgraded. A whopping two thumbs up Steve.

kauthor came out of the woodwork on 2007.01.23 - 10:33PM to say:

I decided to end the donation drive by donating 15 dollars.

lecook4 came out of the woodwork on 2007.01.23 - 10:56PM to say:

Hey, you and me both... LOL! Steve, see if you can get something special with the extra $15.00. LOL!

AdminQ came out of the woodwork on 2007.01.23 - 11:01PM to say:

Everyone who donated, are simply golden in the eyes of the community that is SIYE. Everyone who wanted to donate, but couldn't your loyalism to the site is what makes you just a valuable as those who could donate. The best wishes emails, the referrals, and offers to help are all welcome, and appreciated. Thank you all very very much. -Steve (Who is at a loss for words atm)
