And The Winners Are…..
This December Engagement Challenge was unique for two reasons. First of all, it was the brainchild of our own Jaquelyne Hawkins, or Billie to some, one of our founding SIYE staff members. As most of you probably know she was seriously ill last year and was believed to be making a good recovery. Ironicly, she suddenly passed away the same time the Challenge was posted. I would like to think she “saw” it before she left us.

Secondly, I had an open invitation for anybody who wanted to be a judge for this Challenge. After two people had to bow out, we had 26 judges. In the end, 18 submitted their nominations for Best Overall, Very Romantic, Humor, and Adventure. 18 replies is still a great number of judging.

With eighteen stories submitted, it was a great Challenge. A lot of reading and pulling hairs. However, the results are in and it’s now time to pass out the Christmas presents.

The Award for Best Overall goes to:
”Phoenix” by Sovran

The Award for Very Romantic goes to:
”These Three Words” by St Margarets

The Award for Most Humorous goes to:
”No Reindeer Were Injured During The Writing Of This Story” by Spenser Hemmingway

The Award for Most Adventurous, a tie, goes to:
”Phoenix” by Sovran
and
”While You Tell Yourself The Truth” by Kschneyer

Honorable Mention goes to two stories that earned a very large amount of nominations but not in any one category to win:
”A Christmas Like No Other” by Melindaleo
and
”The Best Present Of All” by Cwarbeck

The winning stories are now prominently listed in our Featured Stories section. Those of you that have multiple chapters or need to do some editing may continue at this time. The Challenge category is back open. If your story is completed, please ensure it is edited and YES, as completed.

The February Challenge is coming up in ten days, it would be a good idea to get your quills and parchment ready.

PS: Some authors have asked if I would tell them how well they did in the judging. If you wish, e-mail me and I will tell you your results.

PPS: privacy, ring, twins, meddle, …and for one, a time of decision.

Oh, this makes me cry. Thank you all for this. I thought of Jacq. when I wrote it and when I posted it and when I read everyone's reviews. It was an honor to know her and an honor to be acknowledged in this way.

congratulations to all! it was really hard to judge this because every story was amazing! Billie is definitely smiling brightly now. SUGGESTION: Can we have a Most Fluffiest category. I know that Billie absolutely loved fluff and while we have Most Romantic I think it is safe to say that there definitely is a difference between fluff and romance. again...congrats to all but especially Sovran...I absolutely loved your story!

Spenser Hemmingway came out of the woodwork on 2007.01.21 - 11:19AM to say:

Okay, I have it! It is so simple! Harry and Ginny develop a friendship with an owl they meet at the Hogsmeade station who is about to write graffiti on the side of the Hogwarts Express. They set out to reform the owl from vandalism, steer him away from his addiction to dead mice, and then return him to a certain pretty barn owl in Kent. You'll laugh...you'll cry...you'll wonder what I put in my morning coffee. I am going to start my outline right now! Eric B.

carolquin came out of the woodwork on 2007.01.21 - 01:45PM to say:

Eric....You are INSANE! I can't wait to read your story!

Sir Ollivander came out of the woodwork on 2007.01.21 - 07:03PM to say:

d-e-a-d m-i-c-e Now why didn't I think of that?

Sovran came out of the woodwork on 2007.01.21 - 10:49PM to say:

Spenser - I have a special challenge for you. I challenge you to write according to the actual February prompt (whatever it may be), while including all of the elements you listed above. I think you can do it, and I'd like to read it. What do you say? -Dave

Spenser Hemmingway came out of the woodwork on 2007.01.22 - 12:59AM to say:

Sovran/Dave - You have a deal, although I may have to switch to dark beer for the duration. Insane? Just remember that spelled backward that's Enasni, the capitol of Burundia! Eric B.

aprilmoon92 came out of the woodwork on 2007.01.22 - 04:08AM to say:

Jaq would be smiling and touched by all of the dedications in her name. Even tho she is gone i will continue to stay a member of siye. As Jaqs mom i wish to try and keep alive the things she loved most and SIYE was one of those things. So tom remember when you need a judge im still there for you babe. Again thank you all so much for paying such honor to my daughter. Its nice to know she will be missed by more than me.

Sir Ollivander came out of the woodwork on 2007.02.03 - 12:13PM to say:

jacsmompat - you are more than welcome. And welcome to the family if you didn't think you were before. So, when is your first story???
