HP&DH? YAY!

Miri came out of the woodwork on 2007.02.01 - 09:20AM to say:

I must admit to feeling really ambivalent about the publication date being announced--I do want to find out what happens but with both some trepidation as to what *does* happens (who dies etc.) and some worry about what it'll mean to the fandom--yeah, I've got a mixed reaction. I wouldn't have minded if the book didn't come out to 2008--that would have been great in my oppinion--to have a longer period of the joys of anticipation and more time to enjoy the full effects of the fandom (thank you! my fellow SIYE fans--you help make it *wonderful*) would be a good thing. Here's hoping that JKR will go ahead with some of the HP connected projects she's mentioned--the Encyclopedia and a redo (sort of an "authour's cut" ) of the books and, possibly, an another charity book.

cwarbeck came out of the woodwork on 2007.02.01 - 09:32AM to say:

I have to agree with Miri. Part of me is dreading DH, and what it potentially holds for all of us - happiness or sadness? I too, wouldn't have minded if JKR had taken her sweet time with the book, just to give us H/G shippers more time to enjoy our little fantasies on how H/G get back together.

notadryeeye came out of the woodwork on 2007.02.01 - 09:43AM to say:

I almost cried when I logged onto the computer this morning and saw the news. I thought it must be a really bad trick...but no. I'm excited...like everyone...but part of me is sad that it's coming up so soon and ending...but I really need to know the end. Like most HP fans. Yipee!

Spenser Hemmingway came out of the woodwork on 2007.02.01 - 10:10AM to say:

Okay...I'm scared silly. I know that we are right about Harry, but I've taken precautions. I was angry with JKR for allowing the break-up, and that was the day I first started writing (Spenser's birthday). If she does something really unpleasant this time, I may just produce a novel. Begin the countdown. Eric B.

LilyLady came out of the woodwork on 2007.02.01 - 10:35AM to say:

I saw it when I logged on to Amazon.com to check something totally different, and then double checked it on mugglenet....and...I'm worried, but I'm SO EXCITED, but...it's so bittersweet....AHH!

Jpatch came out of the woodwork on 2007.02.01 - 10:39AM to say:

I feel the same way, exited but scared at the same time......will she kill him or not....oh well some of fan fic is as good or better than the original

raquelflanders came out of the woodwork on 2007.02.01 - 10:51AM to say:

Man, this sucks but on the other hand it's a relief...And just the thought of the last book coming is making ym eyes water...pathetic huh? I felt a big pang in my stomach...probably because I'm scared like crap! Well, I know what my position willb e when I'm reading the last book. Biting nails, hugging a pillow tightly, trying not to cry when I see who dies and pray to GOd that it is not Harry!

BrittyWeasley came out of the woodwork on 2007.02.01 - 10:59AM to say:

My birthday is on July 16. The day HBP came out two years ago, three days after the OotP movie come out, and five days before DH comes out! Best..... birthday..... ever!!!!

sapphire200182 came out of the woodwork on 2007.02.01 - 12:25PM to say:

Well...mixed feelings...Dh is coming out now...this is going to snarl up all the fanfic work we've been doing...and signal the death knell for two of our (probably) favourite characters...my money's on Ron and Hermione...but at least the end of the road is here for Harry, for better or worse... P.S. does killing Voldemort's Horcrux (and hence part of him) count as fulfilment of the prophecy? pm me your opinions...

Keira Azul came out of the woodwork on 2007.02.01 - 01:02PM to say:

I really don't know what to think....I'm scared guys! I'm also really really excited. What's going to happen? All I know is that Ginny better be there in the end...or else I'll just have to ignore it and mix it in my mind with some of my favorite fics from right here on SIYE! :) Oh gosh....

Keira Azul came out of the woodwork on 2007.02.01 - 01:04PM to say:

sapphire200182: I don't think it does...I'm pretty sure it's gotta be all of him that goes.

Fire came out of the woodwork on 2007.02.01 - 01:05PM to say:

I'm absolutely gutted. I'm in France then, in fact I'll probably be stuck at motorway services somewhere between Calais and Lourdes at midnight when everyone back ome in England is queuing up to buy the book. I queued up at midnight for HBP and it was an amzing experience. My sister was looking forward to coming this time. We're devastated. This sucks. Worst news I've had in ages.

brittpinkie came out of the woodwork on 2007.02.01 - 01:45PM to say:

I'm elated. Excited. Scared. Sad. Joyful. So many emotions. I simply can't wait :)

brittpinkie came out of the woodwork on 2007.02.01 - 01:46PM to say:

And I actually recieved two e-mails from Borders and Amazon asking me if I wanted to reserve a copy. Hehe...guess I buy too much HP merchandise from both vendors ;)

Got my pre-order e-mail from Chapters... they know I'm too weak to resist.

melindaleo came out of the woodwork on 2007.02.01 - 04:00PM to say:

Heh, I'm a mom of three and well past school-age, but I'm as giddy as a fangirl! I'm also really sad that this will be the end. Still not feeling scared - I think Harry will survive, but I'll miss all this anticipation. Now I just desperately want to know a page count!

xhpluva4evax came out of the woodwork on 2007.02.01 - 04:47PM to say:

Wow. I can't believe I've been at school all this time, while everyone else has been celebrating the release date! I'm only IN THE MIDDLE of one of my classes, but no matter. Now at the change of classes, I'm going to be the one telling all my friends! HEHE. But now about me... I have mixed feelings as well about knowing when this all will end. I mean, of course I want to see how JK plays out the last book, and now that I've read so many fanfictions about it, I want to see if any of them have correct theories. But then again, its going to be over!! In the span of a little over a week, we will be done with yet ANOTHER movie, and then our entire Harry Potter saga will come to an end. Quite sad, actually... LOL

Ginebra Wood came out of the woodwork on 2007.02.01 - 04:48PM to say:

Mixed emotions here! I called my boyfriend but he´s not a fan so he don´t understand it but then one of my friends called me and she was a little preocupied, she told me this: I hope the magic will continue beyond the books. I´m a little sad.

destin4fl came out of the woodwork on 2007.02.01 - 05:41PM to say:

ah is it just me or is there some humor and some hope with the date?7+7+7=21 still very good numbers!!!

Professor Scroll came out of the woodwork on 2007.02.01 - 06:43PM to say:

Ah, those very important sevens. It's hard to believe that this magical ride will soon be over, or at least from JKR's point of view. I hope that this book initiates an explosion of good and exciting fan fiction.

calgary came out of the woodwork on 2007.02.01 - 07:31PM to say:

I'm thinking of how this was timed in relation to the opening of the movie. I would think a dead Harry ending would hurt the movie, so there is at least a a slim chance of a live Harry ending. I;m also wondering how this will impact HP fan fic writings.

pippan121 came out of the woodwork on 2007.02.01 - 08:00PM to say:

I have been dying inside since the end of Book 6 knowing how long it would be until the conclusion. That being said, yes I am a little sad about the series coming to an end, but I am much more EXCITED!!!!!!!

Bloodflower came out of the woodwork on 2007.02.01 - 08:41PM to say:

Ah... so the date of our doom is set.... The fandom will see its heaviest decline with the publishing of Deathly Hallows, I fear. Six months? One year? Two? It's the end of the world as we know it....

Pennilyn Novus came out of the woodwork on 2007.02.01 - 08:59PM to say:

I am SO glad there are others out there filled with the same trepidation that has filled me since this morning when I saw the news and almost spit tea onto my computer. I am with everyone who said JKR could have taken her sweet time...when I finished HBP I was anxious for the end, but now that I've grown to love the characters in Fanon, I'm rather nervous to see how it all ends, who kicks it and who lives...and what it will do to fan fiction...

Katastrophe came out of the woodwork on 2007.02.02 - 01:06AM to say:

I'm keeping an open mind, but still a hint of nervousness with all of our favorite characters being on the line, and not knowing who will survive.

MickyBlueEyes came out of the woodwork on 2007.02.02 - 01:42AM to say:

The only thing that concerns me with the coming out of the seventh book and that is will fanfiction stories continued to be written or will they simply fade away? I would like to hear other peoples comments to this question because I personally believe that this concerns everyone who is a fanfiction supporter mickyblueeyes

raquelflanders came out of the woodwork on 2007.02.02 - 10:01AM to say:

Let's not go all dramatic on the date again! Remember what happened when there was announced what the book title was? Well, yeah i have to say for the least...I hope HP stories will continue at least for two years min! Everyone is concered about the question; Will FanFiction sotries continue...there will be a day that it will stop, we might as well continue untill we drop dead and our minds go blank with no idea's!

Bloodflower came out of the woodwork on 2007.02.03 - 04:47AM to say:

We'll last a year or so, I'd say, before the decline is too noticeable. But it will come; the devoted will remain, but we'll stop having new arrivals (or at least a much, much smaller rate of them), and one by one the devotees will fade away. And it will be oh-so-fun to deal with the people who became attracted to the fandom through the films. It is a very different breed of writer who was first hooked by the cinematic aspect as opposed to the literary aspect of our dear Potterverse. Until then, I suppose.....

Miri came out of the woodwork on 2007.02.03 - 02:12PM to say:

Looks like I'm not alone in having mixed feelings about the imminence of "DH" --AKA as the last book. The extent of our unrest is an indication of how much we've come to care about this particular little universe and the very real (in a sense) people who inhabit it. But it's also an indication of what we feel about the people and experiences that make up the fan community and our worry is also for the impact that the contents of the seventh book may have on our community. A "virtual" community but still a true community. Do I think that the fandom, and to many of us, an even more important thing--the fanfic, will survive the last book? An unequivical Yes! There will be fans and fanfic for a good many years. No, it won't be in the same very overwhelming volumn as now, but it will be there. If JKR kills off Harry ( which I DON'T think she'll do), the fans will rebel and write their own Harry stories. After all, how many stories with a living Sirius or Dumledore were written after their individual canon demises? If the ships and pairings don't go the way fans want, it'll be the impetus for fans to write their own. And so on, and so on... There are several reasons why HP as a fandom will survive for some time. Just some are: 1. It is primarily a literary fandom which means a steady influx (yes, in smaller numbers than now but none the less there) of new fans discovering the books. Look at Lord of the Rings--now well over 50 years old and still garnering new fans. 2. There is still Hp stuff to come. Not only the movies but from previous interviews, it seems likley that JKR has some Potterverse projects she'd like to do--just not any new Harry stories. Although who knows--Jo wouldn't be the first author to change her mind. And she seems to be as ambivalent about the series ending as many of us are. 3. The Internet. Harry Potter was the first huge scale fandom in the age of the internet. All the other large fandoms like Star Wars, Star Trek, LOTR, Anime etc. started off before the internet explosion. Fanfic was primarily in print form--expensive and hard to circulate. The internet makes HP a very easy fandom to access, to read, to write and to stay involed in. That there are newly written stories in fandoms that are based on books and films etc. that are 20 years to 60 years old is primarily due to the ease of the internet. Will our HP fandom change? Well given how it has changed in the last 5 years, that's a certainty. But I think it's also a certainly that it'll be around for some time to come. I know my life has been enriched by "hearing" from Sovran, cwarbeck, Abraxan, Spenser, moshpit, Breanie, St. Margrets Chreechee, tenorspaz, Keira Azul, Professor Scroll, Sir Olivander,Lecook and dozens of other authors, reviewers and more (way too many to list here) who brighten our days. Thank you all and a long life, both real and "virtulal" to us all!

sapphire200182 came out of the woodwork on 2007.02.04 - 11:11AM to say:

well, Miri, one good thing about the last book and the predictable decline in fanfiction is that all the attention seeking scumbags who write so-called fanfics after deciding they want part of the glory and attention will all drift away...the only fanfics left will be those written by the true fans...this may sound weird or bitter but after reading hundreds of crazy, crass, disgusting spam-fics over at FanFiction.Net I am getting tired of it all...

Point One: Don't go to fanfiction.net.

Point Two: Glory?
