Congrats to the winnners, but man, I couldn't predict these results AT ALL.

Kezzabear came out of the woodwork on 2007.09.08 - 12:24AM to say:

Are these comments going to be a repeat of last month's comments then? Stories won becasue they are liked and so what if that is predictable?

Well at least when Taking Control overtook MoO in the Overall category it made me go read it...and I remembered "Oh yeah, I am reading this story and I do like it". LOL I'd put more stories on my favourites list if it ever gave e an update notification...oh maybe I will anyway then I might reemmber what I am READING!!!!!!!!! **Does happy dance for The Right Time and gets on with own life** - Saturday is laundry day in my house...sigh...

carolquin came out of the woodwork on 2007.09.08 - 08:11AM to say:

Congrats to all the winners. Regardless of whether they frequently win or not, the stories that have won did so because they are the most deserving. Special shout out to Matt..you rock dude!!

we9ge came out of the woodwork on 2007.09.08 - 08:23AM to say:

I've mentioned before that I am a big fan of taking control as well as meaning of one. I have made an effort to read the other nominees though and everyone should!! I have also tried to vote differently in at least one category. Congrats to those two and the Right Time. Also you have to read Soul Nexus as it is a great story in the making, I think.

sapphire200182 came out of the woodwork on 2007.09.08 - 09:55PM to say:

Congratulations to all winners, although I was hoping for other authors to make a show...

Ginnyrules came out of the woodwork on 2007.09.09 - 08:43AM to say:

MoO and Taking Control are both awesome stories, and yes they do win every time practically, yet this does not mean they do not deserve to. However with only one other story winning an award I'm not sure how encouraging that is for the other authors. They get a nomination and are excited, yet seeing TC's immediate swarm of nominations everytime is a slight knockback! Maybe we should all vote beyond the box! Lol

we9ge came out of the woodwork on 2007.09.09 - 10:20AM to say:

I don't think that it's as much that no one is voting for other stories as that the votes are split among the many other stories. Moo 2 has won more awards than Moo1 so it seems to have its share of fans as well as TC. I just hope that everyone makes an effort to read the other stories and think about their votes and try to vote differently in at least one category.

Kezzabear came out of the woodwork on 2007.09.09 - 10:44AM to say:

Don't worry, coming second (or fourth...as the case may be...) is plenty encouragement :) lol

DQBunny came out of the woodwork on 2007.09.09 - 03:32PM to say:

I personally vote on different stories in each category, but that's beside the point. we9ge is right, there are different stories that equally justify all the categories. Everyone who got nominated achieved something!

Torak came out of the woodwork on 2007.09.09 - 05:15PM to say:

It's probably that those stories have an established fan base, who spread the word to their friends, thus increasing the fanbase even further. So the well-known fics get lots of readers, and less known stories - which might be of the same or better quality - just don't get the same volume of readers.

Enchanted came out of the woodwork on 2007.09.12 - 09:22PM to say:

This is a much debated issue. The DSTAs are a popularity contest; this however, is not a terrible thing. The stories are popular because they are well written, well told, character driven stories. The fact that there are other authors and stories just as deserving of the accolades is not the issue. I’ve often suggested a separate area be set aside for Featured Stories. A link suggested by the members or even the staff featuring; Up and Coming – authors or stories – or Featured One Shots. It could be a section titled: The Staff Recommends - or a members section with the same theme, etc, etc. – There should be a way to spotlight stories and authors that might not otherwise be noticed. Sometimes there are a myriad of reasons why I story isn’t popular or widely read - sometimes it’s just bad timing. Just your luck, you update when Sovran or Fake a Smile updated, or there were a slew of updates that day and your recently updated story was only on the main page for a short period of time. There are some 9185 odd members on this site and only 261 of them participated in the voting, that’s only 3% of the members who actually take the time to vote. Therefore, it is what it is – a popularity contest among 200 or so members and I would venture to guess that the authors take up a majority of that number. Why is that? Because they know that the only reward to be found in writing fanfiction other than ones own pleasure and fulfillment in the telling of tales, is the knowledge that their story brings enjoyment to others. On that note I’d like end by congratulating the winners and nominees for a job well done. Happy Writing ~ Enchanted

Enchanted - yeah. a forum would be nice, too.

quinn came out of the woodwork on 2007.09.14 - 12:35PM to say:

I meant to read all of the nominations, and didn't get through. Is there a list somewhere now that the poll is closed? Or if someone even saved the story names, I'd be happy to get them in a message.

quinn came out of the woodwork on 2007.09.14 - 12:57PM to say:

Nevermind... quick one here just noticed the nominees link. Wow. Time for more coffee? Yep.

BeyondRedHorizons came out of the woodwork on 2007.09.14 - 06:49PM to say:

Congrats to all the winners! I much prefer to see TC as an adventure story with elements of romance than a romance in and by itself, but that being said, it is a fantastic story and I can understand why it won. On a related note, I can't help but feel there's a need for entirely separate DSTAs for one shots. Some out there are superbly written, but they really don't have a chance to win any awards other than the 'best one shot' because they just don't attract as many readers as WIPs.

Soccer Devil22 came out of the woodwork on 2007.09.16 - 12:15AM to say:

This has nothing to do with the DSTA's. A firend recently asked me a question I couldn't 100% answer. So... let's see if anyone out there can. Blood Status- Q: What is the magical child of a squib and muggle considered? A: Half-blood or B: Muggleborn If someone could message me the answer, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks. ~Jeff~

Soccer Devil22 came out of the woodwork on 2007.09.16 - 12:16AM to say:

PS- Congrats to all DSTA winners!

QwayMelqnu came out of the woodwork on 2007.09.16 - 01:52AM to say:

Devil22- "What is the magical child of a squib and muggle considered?"

I don't actually think I've ever heard of an official term for that scenario. I'd think it would be Half-Blood, since technically a squib still contains a small amount of magical power. They can't use magic, but they can see, understand and interact with the magical world (HP Lexicon).

Personally, I'd like to coin the new term for such a combination: A Squiggle, lol.

sapphire200182 came out of the woodwork on 2007.09.16 - 05:00AM to say:

QwayMelqnu Where I come from, a Squiggle happens to be a brand of twinkies-like buns.

Soccer Devil22 half-blood for sure. According to HPL, a squib is a wizard with ultra-low powers, to the extent of not being able to do basic spellwork, though it is presumed they display magical tendencies.

Kezzabear came out of the woodwork on 2007.09.16 - 06:14AM to say:

I'm sure I have seen biscuits (cokies) in Australia called Squiggles....lol

Soccer Devil22 came out of the woodwork on 2007.09.16 - 09:46AM to say:

Alright, thanks to both of you. That clears things up. Squiggle! That's halarious. So aparently a Squiggle is either a twinkie-like thing, a biscuit, the magical child of a Squib and Muggle or ... it might just be all three. Hmm... that's interesting. I'll let you decide on whether or not to use Squiggle, Qway. Thanks for the intel, sapphire. That's what I had been leaning towards. ~Jeff~

Kezzabear came out of the woodwork on 2007.09.16 - 11:01AM to say:

There is also an insane puppet who draws with his nose, Mr Squiggle - did he exist anywhere else on the globe but Australia?

This soooooooo has nothing to do with anything anymore does it? So er...congrats to the DSTA winners? ;)

faded memories came out of the woodwork on 2007.09.16 - 01:06PM to say:

thisis so weird. all the ones i voted for won..... GREAT JOB, PEOPLIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YOU ROCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

quinn came out of the woodwork on 2007.09.25 - 03:57PM to say:

I don't know though... We know from OOP that the ministry doesn't keep a registry of squibs. So, from an Umbridge-arian standpoint, I'd say the lovechild of Aunt Marge and Filch is a Muggleborn. (Congrats again to winners, and all nominees)
