A Quick Challenge Update
1. Stories over 10,000 words are discouraged but not prohibited. It is not a fixed limit. You can write a one million word story if you want. We just like to keep them within reason because the judges have to read all of them.

17 stories so far and a half month still left before the deadline. Fantastic!!!!

We seem to be getting more and more multi-chapter stories with our Challenges, which is great. It is often easier to read one in installments, and the plot can develop nicely with the breaks. The length really can affect the judging process, but no one needs to wait until the deadline to begin reading. Two other points: some authors have been requesting reviews from the judges, but many prefer to remain anonymous. Also, please remember to mark stories as complete once they are. As always, the Beta Readers are there to help where we can. I'm as thrilled about the turnout as Sir Ollivander. Eric B.

lol I have a feeling this update might be pointed at the comment I made - I just was watching that word limit the entire time I was writing, I don't want to lose any judges because of length!

Sir Ollivander came out of the woodwork on 2008.06.15 - 01:00PM to say:

pokecharm - you're not the only one that mentioned it. I haven't lost a judge that didn't read a story over 10k. So we're good.

Zen came out of the woodwork on 2008.06.15 - 01:19PM to say:

How about entries? I wrote two so far, but if I wanted, could I write more? I'm just having too much fun with this challenge!

Sir Ollivander came out of the woodwork on 2008.06.15 - 03:08PM to say:

Zen - YUP! Anyone can write and submit as many stories as their big heart desires. The more the merrier.

Yunchao came out of the woodwork on 2008.06.16 - 11:48PM to say:

Oh boy, this is going to require a lot of reading to judge! :)

Kezzabear came out of the woodwork on 2008.06.18 - 02:49AM to say:

I have been humbled by the beta ... and done as she bid ... *sheepish* Lesson learned, kids - never post until the beta has seen it even if you think it's a piece of inconsequential fluff ... it is now a masterpiece :D

Dianne came out of the woodwork on 2008.06.21 - 09:05PM to say:

I have a question. I don't know many of the judges as some wish to remain anonymous, but have we had any challenges where a judge leaves a review for some but not others? I don't have a problem with it, just curious. I can't judge this time around because of so many June duties but good luck to the judges and participants. It looks like a good challenge.

Sir Ollivander came out of the woodwork on 2008.06.22 - 09:20AM to say:

Dianne - as Chief Challenger, I do not track such issues. I keep the judges anonymous so there's no "jury tampering." However, I have mentioned for judges to leave a nice review if they wish. To identify themselves as a judge in the Challenge is strictly up to them. I have made no attempt to see who does or who does not leave a review and does or does not state that they are a judge. It changes with every Challenge.
