The Burrow Challenge (2010-5)

A few days after the final battle, and things are calming down, the Weasleys plan on what they are going to do for a home.  The Burrow was destroyed by Death Eaters.  Arthur & Molly Weasley keep telling Harry that he is one of the family, loved just as much as the rest of their redheaded children.  But they won’t let him spend his galleons to help rebuild the house.  Then Harry wants them to explain why only certain children of theirs are allowed to help but others can’t.

“You mean all that ‘you’re loved and as much a part of the family as any other children’ was just a lot of hot air?!  You know I have more Galleons than I know what to do with and you’re going to ostracize me now?  My Galleons are not as good as George’s or Bill’s?”

After more heated discussions, Molly and Arthur allow Harry to add what he thinks he should into the repair fund.

The Challenge is to write a story involving the Weasleys building/repairing their future home.

Suggestions:

1.   They demolish everything and start from scratch.

2.   They repair & rebuild from what’s left.

3.   Each Weasley voices their opinion of what is needed or not and other improvements.

4.   They hire an architect and plan a better home.

5.   How much Harry contributes is up to Harry.

6.   Where do they stay in the meantime?

Rules:

1.   All general submission rules apply. Stories over 10,000 words are discouraged but not prohibited. R-rated stories are allowed but discouraged. Judges are not required to read stories over 10,000 words or any R-rated stories.

2.   All entries must be submitted under The Burrow Challenge (2010-5) sub-category of SIYE Challenges and be submitted by midnight Sunday, October 31, 2010.

3.   Multiple chapters are allowed as long as all the requirements are in the chapter(s) that are submitted by the deadline.  Completed stories are seriously preferred.

4.   The categories for judging are Best Overall, Planning & Building, Adventure/Comedy, and Family.

Bonus phrases for extra creativity are the following. Using any or all of them is not required.  A good, creative story will always count much stronger than any bonus.

1.   “It followed me home.  Can I keep it?”

2.   “That’s the silliest thing I’ve ever heard apart from [blank].”

3.   “He/She is actually cute for a demented maniac.”

4.   “If the shoe fits…throw it in the soup.”

5.   “That’s what happens when you play catch with a dragon.”

6.   “Would you believe the [blank] was this tall?”

"There's something you don't see every day," one said.

"...a chicken in an antique bathtub destroying your family home," the other finished. (Power Tools...Ar, Ar, Ar!)

This is why we must stop Spenser from going near any construction project.
