And The Winners Are....

And The Winners Are....

Quidditch is a popular sport in the Wizarding World as well as on SIYE as this Challenge shows.  We had eight stories competing for winning scores.  A real mix of outcomes in the games.  And the winners are...

The award for Best Overall goes to:

The Seeker Daughter by GHL

The award for Best Game Action goes to:

Perfect Catch by Arnel

The award for Most Humorous goes to:

Bikini Girls on Brooms by Northumbrian

The People's Choice Award goes to:

Love Me Not by potterfan2008

The winning stories are now prominently listed in our Featured Stories section.  The 2015-1 Challenge will start January 1st.  You wouldn't want to be caught home alone.

I would like to thank the judges that sent in their votes.  You know who you are: AM, J, JG, NS, & SM.  Your time to help out is quite valuable. The Challenge would not exist if nobody judged them.

Note:  One judge questioned a story which my answer decided his first or second place nomination.  I thought his attention to detail was important to share with everybody.  If JKR spelled Quidditch with a capital Q, two "R"s and a "Z", then that is canon.  You should spell it the same way.  SIYE has brought this up in the past when it was questioned.  Spelling of proper names as JKR wrote them is what we consider correct, including capitalizing the first letter.  And don't you dare misspell Professor McGonagall.  She will dock you 50 points.

Thanks to all the authors for such a diverse and entertaining set of stories. It must have been a hard challenge to judge.

Kudos to Spenser Hemmingway who designed and ran this Challenge. Excellent work with excellent results. Thanks Spens.

Arnel came out of the woodwork on 2014.11.30 - 02:03PM to say:

Thank you so much for recognizing my story as the winner of the Best Game Action Award. I had a lot of fun writing the game as well as the rest of the story. Congratulations to GHL, Northumbrian and potterfan2008 for their wins as well. Finally, to the other four authors who submitted stories, I hope you'll continue to enter the Challenges. Thanks to Spencer Hemmingway for designing this Challenge and to Sir Ollivander for running the judging.

There was a lot of competition for this one. I'm lazy, and so far I've only read potterfan2008's entry (and damn good it was, too. But I will get around to reading the others. Well done all, and thanks for the votes. Sir O's note is right. Do I need to check my story to make sure I capitalised Seeker, and Bludger, and...

Heartfelt thanks to the organizers and judges for your hard work! I will sincerely second Arnel's exhortation to the all entrants to keep submitting -- I have a soft spot in my heart for several of the stories in this competition that were not decorated with little torches.

Great job everyone! I'm thrilled that this went so well. Remember to friend SIYE on Facebook. We utilized it during this Challenge. I wholeheartedly support Sir Ollivander on the matter of canon spelling. I break the rules only when I capitalize Wizard and Witch. If Muggle and Death Eater can be treated as proper nouns then I will do so with those two titles. I hide behind having the character Spenser clearly being identified as the author, not Harry's nice Muggle biographer JKR.

MrsAlphardBlack came out of the woodwork on 2014.12.01 - 03:49PM to say:

Funny, since JKR, herself, misspelled McGonagall in GoF. There's a McGongall running around that book. Loved this challenge and all of the entries!
