Hemingway Six Challenge Part Two (2015-4)

“For sale: baby shoes, never worn.”

Once upon a time, during the 1930’s, the great writer Ernest Hemingway was challenged to write a novel in exactly six words. He won with the above entry. The six-word novel has been popular ever since.

We have done this Challenge once before, back in 2008.  It was incredibly popular.  I’ve been asked to bring it back for another round. No, I spell my pen/screen name differently—no relation.

The author’s challenge is to write a story with exactly six words—no more, no less, no recycles from the 2008 Challenge.  All entries are to be submitted by e-mail to stubbornjack@gmail.com with the subject titled Hemingway Challenge.  No more than five entries per e-mail and only one e-mail per day.

Please do not submit entries under reviews.

The entries are to be in this format:  "six words"  by  "penname"

All entries are to be submitted no later than midnight, Sunday, November 15, 2015.

The four categories are Best Overall, Serious, Humorous, and Totally Unexpected.

The aim here is to have fun, to promote Harry/Ginny, and to sharpen our writing skills.  Great luck to everyone!

Mischief managed!

Oh my goodness, this just might be the thing that gets me back into writing fanfiction. I won one of the categories way back when, it was pretty exciting.

Hmmm... Did my message go blank because of my using an accent aigu, or because I strung too many contractions together? Either way, I will abandon any attempt to be witty and get straight to the question: where do the contest rules stand on the use of contractions?

I can right six word stories

Spenser Hemmingway came out of the woodwork on 2015.10.02 - 09:08AM to say:

A contraction, by definition, is a single word..."one word" derived from two. Go ahead and consider contraction as only one word of the six.

FloreatCastellum came out of the woodwork on 2015.10.02 - 12:27PM to say:

Where do we submit them?

RighT3rantZ came out of the woodwork on 2015.10.02 - 12:35PM to say:

Mr Sails, says yes, to contractions

Should multiple entries be submitted separately or collectively?

ajarntham came out of the woodwork on 2015.10.03 - 01:22AM to say:

First try wasn't accepted because it doesn't meet the 1000-word minimum length for chapters. Should I type "All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy" a hundred times? :-)

Multiple entries can be submitted together.

@FloreatCastellum No, you're not, or rather, if you are, then so am I.

Arnel came out of the woodwork on 2015.10.03 - 05:29PM to say:

When's the deadline? The notification doesn't say. Do we have the usual six weeks to enter?

hgromance came out of the woodwork on 2015.10.03 - 07:06PM to say:

@Arnel Deadline is November 15

By the way, the account name is for my extremely ugly, and extremely stubborn Jack Russell terrier...Stubborn Jack. He especially loves the soundtrack from Prisoner of Azkaban.

Please DO NOT submit entries under Reviews for The Hemingway Six Challenge, Part Two (2015-04). I've moved them into the story where they belong, but we almost missed seeing them. Thank you to Sunlit Hufflepuff for bringing this to our attention. Entries are to be emailed to stubbornjack@gmail.com Thanks!
