Oh, I just noticed that I wrote the last review before I read the chapter completely.
I had to laugh when I read that Dudley teaches Arthur Win95. This is a completely new level of his Muggle-mania. Although I prefer a good Linux distribution, I'm pretty sure that Arthur's had his fun, lol.
While I can live very well with the fact that Malfoy plays a slightly “lighter” role; I always get goose bumps when he comes closer than 100 feet to Ginny or she calls him Draco. OK, but that's another story and shouldn't bother you.
Oh, and I just noticed that my ebook-reader version of the story (ff-net based) differs from the siye version. I hope that the differences are not so big. Improvements in the comma placement and grammar I probably do not notice anyway, lol.

Author's Response: When I was thinking about what sort of Muggle technology could bring Dudley and Arthur a bit closer, the idea of bringing Arthur into the modern age of computers sounded like something that would interest both of them. The way I picture it, Arthur is sitting in front of the computer with Dudley sitting next to him with a notebook and pen writing a "How To" manual. That's how I taught my own mother to use Windows95: she had to write everything down herself, even though she had a perfectly good manual! As for Ginny calling Malfoy by his given name, I thought the change might reflect the changes in how Draco treats Ginny (with indifference now rather than scorn). Finally, I posted this story at ff.net several years after I originally published it here, so I may have edited it, adding commas and such, but I did nothing to improve or change the story in any way. Maybe the formatting for ebook-reader makes a few changes I normally wouldn't. Thanks for reading.

It will be a difficult time for Ginny at Hogwarts without Harry. The regular images of Harry tortures will not make it easier. Certainly, that was much easier to bear at the Burrow without all the classmates and teachers as witnesses around.
Now that Death Eaters teach at Hogwarts, it will be not possible for Harry to return to school after a possible rescue. Ginny will have to adjust to a long time without Harry around even if he will be rescued eventually.
This raises the question of how safe is Hogwarts yet. I have been wondering ever since DH that 'keep Ginny safe' does not contradict with her stay at Hogwarts under the direct access of the Death Eaters and hence Voldemort.
… and before I forget again. It was a wonderful chapter, thank you!

Author's Response: In both this story and DH, Hogwarts really is not a safe place for Ginny. While there weren't Dementors stationed within the school in DH, the oppressive atmosphere brought on by the presence of the Carrows and Snape as headmaster is just as terrifying and depressing as the atmosphere in my story. I really don't think a whole lot of learning went on at the school in either story. Ginny is very lucky that she has McGonagall as her head of house and her advocate. As strong a person as she is, Ginny will find a way to cope. I'm glad you liked the chapter.

I wonder if Molly, not knowing the ministry had fallen, had a choice on whether to send her chikldren to Hogwarts. I don't think I would have in the same situation. However, with a husband who works in the ministry and also as part of the Order of the Phoenix, she was possibly privy to more information than she let on and knew that there could be repercussions if she didn't send them and that must have been awful...to have your children so far away and know things are very difficult for them.

I am wondering if Harry's sense of utter abandonment coincided with Dumbledore slipping into unconsciousness? Ginny must be really having a terrible time coping with school work, Harry's thoughts and all her own fears. I can't imagine she is sleeping well either....and probably daren't, or even think about, make any more batches of dreamless sleep.

Author's Response: Molly Weasley sent Ginny back to Hogwarts after the Ministry fell and Harry, Ron and Hermione disappeared from the wedding in DH. I imagine that she had her reservations then, but still made her daughter go back to school, so why should my story be any different? Arthur had inside information in the book, so, again, why shouldn't my story be different? I realize that Ginny has a few more issues this time round than in canon, but she has Harry's room to go to each day. As for her school work, she's not trying very hard, just trying to get by, which is quite understandable. Your wondering about Harry is correct. The day Ginny sends Hedwig to the Burrow is the day Dumbledore succumbs to the curse and won't wake, leaving Harry grief-stricken and transmitting more than he realizes to her. Oh, the thought of brewing more of the Draught of Peace hasn't crossed Ginny's mind at all and she wouldn't dare do it, even in Myrtle's bathroom, for fear that she'd be found out and then receive more detention than she already has served for other things. Thanks for reading. I hope you enjoy the second half of the chapter...

Another really excellent chapter. You've kept the emotional tension very high. I like the choices you made in terms of teachers, and the attack at the Ministry. The idea of having Dementors in the school is also well done, and one I haven't seen used before. The Harry-Ginny mind link is a welcome return, too, though I'm slightly surprised Ginny hadn't tried sending comforting thoughts before - of perhaps she tried but couldn't get through to Harry. I like the idea of encrypted as well as magically concealed letters. Few wizards would look for encryption, even if they knew about it. Finally, I like the way you have Ginny communicating with Hedwig, and Hedwig's protectiveness of Harry's things. It's as if Hedwig will trust only her. I'm as keen as most to read on about the rescue. This is a really great ride - I'm enjoying it immensely. SF

Author's Response: I appreciate the vote of confidence for this chapter. Whenever I sit down to plan a new chapter--especially one like this one--I try to think of things that I haven't seen another author do. I'm one of those people who gets tired of reading/writing about the same things so I'm always looking for ways to put a fresh perspective on a situation. I thought long and hard about putting the Dementors in the school and finally decided that since Dumbledore was no longer around, they definitely would worsen the atmosphere about the castle. Also, you're right about wizards not using encryption; I like to think that was Dudley's contribution to the passage of vital information. Poor Ginny, she has it bad in this chapter and it's mostly because she can't send messages back to Harry. Believe me, she's tried, but over such long distances, her emotional state isn't strong enough for her messages to penetrate Harry's mind. Therefore, she seeks comfort in the one being who is mourning Harry as much as she is: Hedwig. Keep reading... things are heating up in the next couple of chapters.

The crypto is a nice touch -- though I think a Wizarding equivalent of "public key cryptography" would be Very Cool. (A Wizarding equivalent of steganography might be amusing, as well, though explaining it in words might prove a challenge.) [In general, the whole notion of "shared passwords" as is depicted in Canon seems ripe for abuse; it would be much better to have different passwords for different individuals... but I'm veering wildly off-topic.]

And yeah, I think it's about time for Harry to get a lot closer to getting rescued -- I'm not sure how much longer he can hold on, there.... :-}

Well done.

Author's Response: In story-time, it's only a matter of hours before Harry is rescued. In real time... well, it's going to take a little while longer for the chapter to go through the beta process before you and everyone else can see how the rescue will go down. It's beginning to look like the favorite part of this chapter is all the cloak and dagger stuff the students are doing to foil the resident Death Eaters. Thanks for reviewing.

Another great chapter, I am so glad that they have a plan and that they have found a way to get the others out of of Hogwarts as well.

Author's Response: Ginny, Hermione and Ron would never forgive their parents and the Order if they were made to stay in school while the rescue was going on. Things start to heat up in chapter 19. I'm glad you liked this one. ~Arnel

well i think itsa time for harry and albus to get out as well as time for the rest to work out what is going to be need in order to have them healthy agaion.....kutgw

Author's Response:

Author's Response: It takes time to get big rescue operations planned in time to be executed successfully, and the Order of the Phoenix and the Weasleys want to be sure they do everything right by Harry and Dumbledor... no mess-ups. The plan goes into action next chapter. Thanks for reviewing ~Arnel
