I am guessing there will be hell to pay upon exit unless Voldemort has them out for a meeting or a mission! I am on the edge of my seat awaiting the potential conflict!

Author's Response: All of that potential conflict takes place "off camera" as it were because of the fact that I wrote this story in only two points of view, that of Ginny and Harry. It can be assumed that Voldemort was indeed upset and that the Death Eater ranks ended up being a few wizards short after Harry was allowed to escape! Besides, I wanted to concentrate on Harry's healing rather than invent horrible things for Voldemort to do! Thanks for reading.

The short sequences from Harry's POV are very well done. It gives the impression of a life-reportage.
I wonder if Ginny, Ron and Hermione should go back to Hogwarts. Death Eater Carrow should be able to put two and two together to know that Harry's closest friends have something to do with his escape. It would be irresponsible to expose them to this danger. Possibly he has seen them in the cave in person ...
The final scene between Molly and Harry was great. Molly had tried to reach Harry for days but he had to struggle hard with himself to open up to her.
Many thanks for another wonderful chapter.

Author's Response: When I was writing this chapter, I considered having Ginny, Ron and Hermione not go back to Hogwarts. However, it seemed to me that it would be more suspicious if they didn't come back to school when they were supposed to: after all, their reason for going away that weekend was a funeral, not a rescue. Besides, the three didn't recognize any of the Death Eaters at the cave as Carrow. I'm assuming that since he is a teacher at the school, he would have stayed where he was unless summoned to the cave by Voldemort. As it is, Ginny didn't go back until she absolutely had to and suffered the consequences by not getting permission to leave the school again until the middle of December. I'm glad you liked the scene between Molly and Harry. As it is, this is one of my very favorite chapters in the story.

It was a great job. Brought me to tears. Why did they go back to school??

Author's Response: You've found my favorite chapter in Summer Story and I'm very glad you liked it. To answer your question, Ron, Hermione and Ginny only had three to four days permission to be away from Hogwarts, as the "funeral" was going to be the day of Harry's rescue. If they had stayed away longer, it would have aroused the Death Eaters' suspicions and that would have been asking for trouble. As it was, Ginny stayed longer with Harry than she should have and Professor McGonagall had to threaten her with being kicked off the Quidditch team if she didn't return to school. Thanks for reading. I hope my answer makes sense.

You could really feel Harry's consuming fear as he heard the noises that sent him spiralling to the secret place in his mind. I think he has done incredibly well to be able to trust Molly and begin to open up to her. Although, you haven't at any time told us how much time has passed...so it could be weeks. There is also a big lack of Ginny in the part of this chapter dedicated to Harry's rescue to the Burrow...has she been prevented from leaving Hogwarts. Did she return home the night Mrs Weasley mentioned but of course Harry has been sleeping a lot and probably in that secret place in his mind a great deal also. Maybe next chapter will be from Ginny's pov and will answer all the questions (grins).

You obviously put a great deal of thought and effort into the final scene of this chapter, between Harry and Mrs Wealsey. The fact that Harry was able to "let go" and sob in her arms says a great deal for how much he trusts and loves her and how much he has recovered (although there will be a long way to go) and how she herself has contributed greatly to that recovery.

Author's Response: You have come to my absolute favorite chapter in this story. Whenever I get the chance, I reread it all the way through because it shows how much progress Harry makes from the beginning in the cave to his embrace with Mrs Weasley at the end. It helps that he has trusted her to care for him prior to his captivity and he uses that trust to first open his eyes, then talk a little about his experiences (his flinching when she tries to touch him) and finally accept her embrace and the healing gentleness he feels once he gathers his courage and allows her to hold him. The timeline for this chapter is rather short. Harry's rescue was very early Saturday morning, the third weekend of October. Ginny stayed with Harry, not leaving his side and refusing to go back to school until Professor McGonagall demanded she come back for classes on Tuesday, the day Harry wakes. There's more about this in the next chapter which is dedicated to more of Harry's recovery. I look forward to reading your reaction to chapter 21. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I'm going back to read this chapter again...

No wonder you like this chapter. This is powerfully written, and I think you were absolutely right to tell it from Harry's perspective. I don't think there is any other way you could have brought out that horrifying terror and vulnerability, the physical hurts and fear of contact and the frayed mental and physical nerve endings otherwise. I suspect you may have read a little into the experiences of someone who has suffered torture. I have, and I can recognise how close this is to the way that was written. I have never seen the stark terror of waiting for what you know must come better brought to life. It's uncomfortably close to reality. I loved the way you have the transition from abject terror to the start of recovery as well, and the fear that is left over. The most valuable point was giving Harry his first decision with the door. Finally, I think Dumbledore's departure was well handled too. How it leaves Harry is probably going to be vital, so I'm looking forward to getting time to read on. There was nothing i couldn't admire in this chapter. Well done indeed. SF

Author's Response: I must have started this chapter six different ways, but I always came back to the disjointed thoughts and abject terror the Death Eaters instilled in Harry's mind. I've read quite a few fan fics where Harry has been kidnapped/captured and after his rescue he's fine in a day or two. However, the mind and the world don't work that way, so Harry has a long recovery ahead of him and it's going to take the support and love of everyone around him to help him cope with Dumbledore's death as well as what he went through. You are right about how it starts with the liberating thought that he can choose to be "locked in" or "free" just by deciding about a closed door. The research I did for this chapter said that little decisions like that for someone in Harry's situation make a big difference toward the first steps of recovery. Unfortunately, Harry needs to recover faster than most people and I hope the time-line I've worked out for the next few chapters seems at least reasonable. Please let me know.

GHreat chapter. I feel really bad for Dumbledore and Harry. Poor Harry. We need some H/G action though! Keep it up!

Author's Response: I'm glad you liked the chapter. That one was rather heart-rending to write because there were so many emotions attached to it. I'm glad you're interested in the H/G action... keep reading... you'll get some in a couple of chapters. Thanks for reviewing. ~~Arnel

So glad you were able to update. I'm glad Molly is the one to take care of Harry. He needs that little bit of extra love that only she can give. Where's Ginny or Dudley, even? I know she's at school but I would have thought she'd managed to show up by now and Dudley doesn't have school.

Author's Response: All your questions about who is where will be answered in the next few chapters. Suffice it to say, that Ginny stayed with Harry as long as practical and then she reluctantly went back to Hogwarts. Dudley was with Harry and Molly when Harry awoke: Mrs. Weasley just sent him to get Madam Pomfrey... Harry heard the clatter of boots on the stairway... As for Molly, she can't stand to see Harry hurting so much, but understands that he's going to need time and lots of tender loving care and she's willing to give it to him. I'm glad you liked the chapter and took the time to review. Thanks, Arnel

that was certainly an emotional chapter - great writing
I only hope that Harry doesn't withdraw into his shell again

Author's Response: How can Harry withdraw with Molly Weasley watching over him like the proverbial mother bear? He's had enough of the negative emotions... all he can do is go forward and up. I'm glad you liked the chapter. Twenty-one should be out soon.

Well, apparently neither the approach to nor departure from the place Harry & Albus had been held captive were especially memorable for battles or duels -- not that I'm complaining in any way, mind: the psychological aspects of Harry's torture would be quite enough of a struggle. And the DEs (well, those who survived) might have had a rather different perspective from mine, I suppose.

Yeah, if Tom keeps taking out his own DEs, it's conceivable that their ranks will be materially reduced; seems like a rather self-defeating approach, but I know of no established link between "cleverness" and "sanity." (Not that he has the latter quality in particular abundance, mind.)

I don't recall whether or not I've read the inspiration for the last scene, but I certainly thought yours was quite effective.

And earlier, Harry's reluctance to accept that he might be getting rescued, and that he was among friends, also seems quite apropos.

I think I'll be rash enough to expect at least one reunion next chapter. :-}

Well done.

Author's Response: When I was preparing the outline for this chapter, I decided I didn't want to write a battle scene, that I just wanted to give a hint that there was one going on in other parts of the cave. The danger of the DEs discovering the rescue operation came in that small portion of the rescue when Ron recognizes Pettigrew and yells at the rescuers not to let him transform, followed by the aftermath with Tom. I'm glad you thought Harry hesitancy to accept that he was being rescued was apropos. And yes, Chapter 21 does have at least one reunion. Thank you for reviewing. ~~Arnel

well if there is one person who will wrok with ahrry and let him set the pace...its molly poppy is fine but not the mother time...she is a nurse....glad they are out now and harry is on his way to being well...kutgw

Author's Response: I'm glad you approve of my choice of Molly Weasley to be the one to watch over Harry as he recovers. I agree that Madam Pomfrey is fine, but she has her responsibilities at Hogwarts to think of, too, which would spread her a little thin if she took on nursing Harry back to health, don't you think? I'm glad you liked the chapter. Thanks for reviewing. ~~Arnel

Another great chapter although it seems obvious that Molly isn't telling him everything as I would have expected Ginny to be next to his side constantly.

Author's Response: Chapter 21 is full of loose-end tying paragraphs, so all your suppositions will be either answered or confirmed. Thanks for reviewing. I'm glad you liked the chapter. ~~Arnel
