I like the pensieve scene very much, especially as we learn more about the history of Snape, sorry Professor Snape. It is great that to you also show some new scenes, which are not already known from canon. At first I wondered what Harry would see the pensieve that he does not know already from Dumbledore's memories. But, as the chapter shows, Dumbledore still kept a few surprises of its own.
Perhaps one last word regarding the worries that I had in the previous chapter.
I never had the intention to stop reading the story. I was two days busy with brooding about the world according to Harry Potter and couldn’t concentrate on reading.
It wasn’t the question whether Ginny should be left behind or not. That issue needs to be clarified between the two of them. Harry has never promised to take Ginny with him. But he has promised to talk to her beforehand and not to sneak away again secretly. However, for him, her opinion was not worth to ask for. That’s what I meant by trust and mutual respect.
Harry is an impeccable guy, but I couldn’t understand why he treated Ginny in this way, again. Obviously, he is stronger than me. I couldn’t look into my wife’s eyes if I deliberately break a promise I made to her. Although I know that she would forgive me, I would never do it.
You mentioned Harry's promises to Dumbledore. Harry had never promised to Dumbledore to exclude Ginny. On the contrary, Dumbledore said that Ginny has the right to be involved (Chapter 7). Of course, Dumbledore respected Harry's plan and agreed to keep her in the dark about their plans.

You have already mentioned that Ginny will not back down. Hence, I am looking forward to read the next chapters.

See you around
Martin

Author's Response: OK... let's chalk Harry's faults up to the writer's inability to completely know her characters. With every story I write, I learn something new and in this one, I was learning to keep track of the personalities and quirks of two very different characters, while still sticking to canon. I know you don't like Harry disrespecting Ginny, but that's how I wrote him because I was adding new canon into the series as the new books came out. Enough excuses... I'm glad you liked the Pensieve sequences. Many of them were my theories on what happened between Hagrid getting Harry from the house and Dumbledore placing him with Petunia. Thanks for reading.

Harry's guilt about leaving Ginny behind was palpable. I hope when she turns up it's not going to give them such a shock that she gets stunned byt them, thinking its an enemy. Maybe Harry will feel her through their connection...but I hope it doesn't distract him at the wrong moment if that happens!

Nagini certainly was an easy kill...will the others be that easy? It is good he can apparate from within the crypt, but will Ron and Hermione be able to get in if they cant touch the gate....and can they get in before the death eaters and Voldermort arrive? And if Harry does open the gate for them does that mean others they don't want might enter at the same time? So many questions! His "Oh God" really struck me...I'm guessing that he has an idea of the eigth horcrux and knows he's about to find out...and is pretty sure he knows what the outcome is going to be. The way you described is as a strangled whimper just went straight to my heart!

I look forward to reading on to find out more about the memories Dumbledore has left. It must have been such a shock to Harry to first of all find out how strong Snape's feelings were for his mother, but also that he was involved in the murders of his grandparents...maybe some sympathy for Peturnia coming out (but I wouldn't give her much!)

Author's Response: You'll just have to keep reading to find out whether Ginny stays safe and what happens to Hermione and Ron when the Death Eaters finally breach the graveyard gate. I promise that you'll get answers to all your questions in subsequent chapters, but if I tell you now, what's the use in reading the rest of the story? Anyway, I'll give you a hint to ease your mind: Harry told Ron, Hermione and Ginny about his family crypt at the top of the hill. That should be enough of a clue, I think. You're absolutely right about what Harry's "Oh God" meant because this is where I tried to follow canon as best I could without duplicating the ideas. I've also used this and the next chapter to put forth some of my own ideas about what happened at certain times in Harry's life and how, at least in this story, his life is interwoven with that of Albus Dumbledore's. Your comment about Petunia made me chuckle. I hope you enjoy the next chapter. Thanks for reading this one.

A quite brilliant take on Dumbledore's revelations about Severus Snape. I liked the understanding that you drew about Snape's motives, and about his promise. The strongest part of the chapter was the vision of Voldemort given to Harry, and the pain he suffered at the death of Nagini. You drew that very well. Intersting touch, too - the Potter URNS - you make it clear they were cremated, though they are in a vault. I'm not sure I understand the logic, even though it is not flawed at all that I can see. And eight Horcruxes? I count only seven in the list of Dumbledore's. It looks like I need to read on to solve this. Looking forward to it! SF

Author's Response: I'll jump into my reply with both feet and hopefully shed some light on a few things. First the urns: if you recall the interior of the crypt from Harry's visit in July the small building was packed floor to ceiling with Harry's ancestors, most of them in full-length marble cubicles. My reasoning for using urns is that there wasn't much room left in the crypt for two full-sized coffins, even with magical expansion charms; the urns took up much less space and still provided a proper burial place for Lily and James Potter. Besides, I wrote this chapter after having read DH and I realized that this and much of the ending needed to be as different as possible from the original. From here on in, you'll see similarities and differences to the final book. I'm glad that you approve of my revelations about Severus Snape. Again, I tried to stay true to canon while trying to elaborate on what little we learned of his relationship with Lily via the original. I'm glad, too, that you think the scene with Voldemort is the strongest part of the chapter. I needed it to be and worked on that part the longest after having asked myself whether or not he actually felt the demise of his Horcruxes. There are many more of Dumbledore's memories in the next chapter because the first draft was nearly thirty pages long and I needed to stick by my twelve page rule for this chapter... there was just too much material to squeeze into only one chapter! I hope you find time to read Chapter Twenty-Seven very soon. I'm eager to read what you think. ~Arnel

This was excellent! I am looking forward to reading your next chapter.

No No No No NOOOO, don't stop now!

We are getting so close to know the reasons why Dumbledore left all those memories. Will it make clear to Harry what he has to do to kill VoldyMold?

Lately, I've been seeing a lot of stories in which there is a lot of Dumbledore bashing and in those stories it fits but it is refreshing to see another side of Dumbledore once more. Yes, he still manipulates but your story also shows the love he felt for Harry.

Hope to see more soon.

I want to say more but right now, I'm beat and I want to sleep. :D

Until next time, take care. C

Author's Response: I'm sorry, but I had to stop where I did. When I began writing this story I challenged myself to keep the chapters between eight and twelve pages long so that my readers wouldn't have to plow through the monster-sized chapters that are in my previous story, New Year, New Hope. You'll be pleased to know that the next chapter is a continuation of Dumbledore's memories which get to the heart of why Harry is viewing the memories in the first place. I'm really glad you like how I'm portraying Dumbledore in this story. After reading HBP and DH I felt very strongly that there was much more to Dumbledore's thoughts about Harry and I wondered how their relationship could have been different if the headmaster hadn't been so cagey about his feelings for Harry. I also wondered what would have happened if the two were allowed some "playtime" together so that they had a more personal relationship than the one they had in canon. I plan to let my readers get their hands on my next chapter sometime next week. We're getting down to the last eight chapters and things are going to heat up rather quickly for Harry, Ginny and the others. Thank you for your thoughtful review. I appreciate your taking the time to share your thoughts with me.

Heh --- yeah, viewing that memory would have indeed been "eye-opening."

Looks to me as if things will be coming to a head right quick....

Well done.

Author's Response: Beheading Nagini did set a lot of things in motion, didn't it? More Pensieve memories coming up in the next chapter, too. Thanks for the review.

I have to see the chapter was intriguing. Nice to see everything coming together! Update soon please!

Author's Response: Thanks. And yes, things are progressing nicely towards the end. There's a total of thirty-four chapters, so we're definitely on the home-stretch now. I just received chapter twenty-seven back from my beta, so most likely, I'll be putting it up the week after next... there are a few things I need to fix in order for it to be just right. I'm glad you liked the chapter and thank you for telling me.

i think harry has every right to feel the way he does about snape when he has seent his...and lily will let snape know it too soon enought....kutgw

Author's Response: Thanks for the review. There are more memories for Harry to see in the next chapter that just might change his mind about Snape, so you'll just have to read them to see if you feel the same way as you do now. I'm interested in what you'll have to say then.

Ah very good, I am glad that they are getting closer, looking forward to seeing Ginny's reaction when she finds out and what the last Horcrux is.

Author's Response: Things are definitely heating up. You'll find Ginny's reaction, amongst other things, in the next chapter. That should be out later this month. Thanks for reviewing.

please, please update soon
I really love this story and I can't wait to read on

Author's Response: I promise to update soon, by the end of the month, in fact. Hopefully, my beta will have the time to look through more than one chapter this month. There are thirty-four chapters in all, so I still have a few more to put up. I'm glad you like the story and thank you for telling me so.

Ah, just as it was starting to get good... Hope you can update quickly.

Author's Response: This was another of those chapters that just seemed to explode on me. The next one is also in Harry's point of view and continues with the Pensieve memories amongst other things. And yes, things are definitely starting to get good. Thanks for reviewing.
