I love when you flesh out the minor character's stories.

Lisa was fifteen at the time of the battle. I assume that would probably make her a fourth year, but i suppose her birthday could have been between mid-May and late August.

The factory workers with the strong Scot's accent - did they go to Hogwarts? I don't remember anyone in the books having their voice written that way, except for Hagrid. Or did the students adjust their dialect depending on the majority of those surrounding them? The same question applies to the Welsh students, I suppose.

Author's Response: Thanks
I’ve neglected Ernie. He appears in Tales of the Battle, and (briefly) in Grave Days and Aurors and Schoolgirls, but I haven’t used him since then. He’ll be back.
JKR gave Hagrid a noticeable accent, but no one else (not even Seamus). I assume that students do moderate their dialect a little. In this case I was simply trying to make Lisa the outsider.

MacMillan - the Scottish connection. That is the one I was referring to in my privious review. Clever of you to include a relation of Zacharias Smith. If I recall he is the one who pushed all the first years aside to get to the fron and escape the Battle of Hogwarts via the Hogs Head.

Author's Response: Thanks again.
More that 1% of all Brits are called Smith. It’s by far the most common surname, so I’m happy to give Zacharius a lot of distant relatives.

Whoa! Ernie? Excellent idea.... but of course, MacMillan. Why did I not think of that. Clever you. Well done. Fascinating chapter.

Author's Response: Thanks
Ernie (and Lisa) will be back soon.

Although there is no H/G in this chapter, it is reallyfun. The Dursleys are great. I like the idea that Petunia wouldn't be completely indifferent to an occasion like that. After all, even if it was because of fear, she raised Harry.

Author's Response: Thanks for the review. I wondered whether to do more "guest" chapters, but I won't. I've done the important one. -N-

Two different invitation story arcs. I'm surprised that Vernon accepted the invitation, but it will make for an interesting scene later at the wedding. Is Dudley's date a new character? Daze? I assume that's short for Daisy.

I didn't pick up on the Macmillan surname until the given name "Ernie" came up, then I had an "Oh, yeah, right" moment. You've hit me several times before with those in your stories. I don't know if I'm slow on the uptake, or you're really good at hiding the clues, but either way it doesn't matter. It works for me, and I enjoy them when they happen. Occasionally I do sense things before the reveal, and I get to act smug when that happens. The fact that it's rare that I get feel smug makes it all the sweeter.

Was it hard writing the Scot dialect and keeping it legible to the reader? You did a good job at something I think few would even attempt (and some of those who do that shouldn't).Does it help living where you do?

Author's Response:
Thanks for the review.

Vernon says: “I did NOT accept the invitation. I simply decided to allow my wife and son to indulge in this foolish whim of theirs.” Daze is, indeed Daisy, I’m not sure what she thinks of Dudley’s pet name for her.

You aren’t the only one who missed the Macmillan surname. I was deliberately vague about “the wee boss” for a while, but I’m surprised that it caught so many people. Perhaps the Scottish setting confused people, although Macmillan is definitely a Scottish name.

The man at the next desk to me is a Scot, Edinburgh is 100 miles from me (London is 300) and I frequently cross the border to visit a friend of mine. All of those things help. My simple rule (and it’s true) is that from Yorkshire northwards, the word yes is often replaces by “aye” and that, plus a couple of dialect words are enough.

Great chapter. Ernie sounds a bit troubled and 'bored' of his job. Then again, if he can't do anything without his fathers permission, why be there?
More, please.

Author's Response: Thanks for the review. You're correct in your assessment of Ernie. Why indeed? -N-

Always a great unexpected treat then you update this one! Was Vernon complaining about JKR perhaps?

Author's Response: Thanks. Yes, he was, because the Daily Mail made some typically snide comments recently. -N-

I enjoyed the story and look forward to future progress. One of the things that I enjoy about your writing is that your speculation about things makes sense to me--lots of people claiming they were close friends of Harry when they actually are not. It is surprising to see Ernie more mature and modest than you had shown him previously but people change and develop. Even Petunia--although not so much Vernon. The little dig about how they don't need 2 cars because she can't drive is a little ironic since Ginny is the anti-Petunia in every possible way except that she also does not drive and relies on her husband to drive her. I don't think that makes Harry Vernon however.

I don't quite understand why knitting is a factory that employs people but I don't have any understanding at all of what makes the JKR economy work.

Thanks again and I look foward to more of your imaginative productivity.

Author's Response:
Thanks

Ernie in this chapter is a little less pompous than I made him in Tales of the Battle, but he’s been “working” in the family business ever since. You’re correct about Ginny (in Strangers at least), but unlike Petunai, she can travel without driving. Besides, Ginny has a motorcycle licence. Something which would horrify Petunia.

It’s weaving (manufacturing cloth) not knitting. I thought I’d made that obvious, I’ll check. The JKR economy doesn’t work, so I’m making stuff up. :-D

Go Dudley! Glad to see that he and Petunia want to go to Harry and Ginny's wedding. The exchange between Vernon and Petunia was brilliant and so typically them! I hope you have more of both the Dursleys and Ernie's attempt at dating Lisa in future chapters because I thoroughly enjoyed both scenes in this chapter.

Author's Response:
Thank you.

There will be more from the Dursleys, and from Ernie (and Lisa), too.

Long time no see. Well now I'm going to have to go back again and figure out where this all fits in but nice to see we are close to the big day...kutgw

Author's Response: Thanks. Close? It’s still ten weeks away, but time flies… -N-

I found the first section regarding the Dursleys interesting. I can imagine Petunia would soften in her old age, or at least, one could hope. I don't remember Dudley having a girlfriend named Daze and meeting up with Harry. Is that in an earlier story of yours I have missed?

Are we to get a glimpse of all the guests or just a chosen few? Ernie MacMillan seems like an odd choice, given he was one of the ones who gave Harry a hard time in Chamber and were they ever anything more than friendly acquaintances? I understand that Harry and Ginny would invite all the remaining members of the DA to their wedding, but why this interlude involving Ernie? I am sure you have a reason!

Author's Response:
Thanks for the review.

There is no doubt that Petunia was (in her own way) devoted to her son, and she spent many years looking after him. Now he’s left home, what is left for her? Daisy has so far been mentioned once, in the first chapter of this story. You’ll find out more about her in future chapters (and other stories).

Ernie is the only other guest you’ll see for a while, although I think Neville and Hannah will be making an appearance eventually. Why choose Ernie? Good question, and one I’m not going to answer. :-D

The Dursley bit is obvious. Ernie seems a bit downtrodden

Author's Response: Thanks for the review. The Dursley bit was obvious to me, but not everyone agrees with me. -N-

well what will you say to the person when you are bored to hell and then find out that one of your favourites is updated. you go to the site with high zeal and you will find the cruel author notes there :(. I mean seriously, story about Harry/Ginny wedding and no H/G.
Anyhow one positive thing about is that your updating pace has increased and this is a very good sign.

After my discouraging rant, I have to say that I very much enjoyed the dursley part of the chapter. It clearly reveals the dursley's life of your HP fandom. However (and there is alway one however with no H/G chapter :) ) the second part is not related or I must say influential in the story and if anyone (I mean people like me) is reading this story in the future when its complete, the second part will be skipped as I think no one will be interested in how Ernie and Lisa got together when they are reading about such quality stuff of H/G wedding.

Sorry for the ambiguous review, The above rant is confusing, So this is a one positive review with the above stars. :)

Author's Response:
Thanks for the ambiguous review. :-D

I did wonder about submitting a chapter featuring neither Harry or Ginny. I had my reasons. Harry was entirely absent from chapter 3 (and mostly absent from the last chapter). I hope to be able to keep up with my current rate of updating, If I do, you’ll see another chapter of Hunters and Prey within a week (or so).
