What a relief that she was found guilty so quickly. Even the Wizengamot could not mess that case up.

Author's Response: When the Matron showed her twisted personality in all its glory, the unanimous vote was the only logical conclusion.

Wow! That was brilliant they came to such a quick and unapposed decison....being forced to tell the truth did the trick...the questions that her "lawyer" asked certainly didn't help her case...no wonder the prosecution didn't bother asking any themselves. His closing speech on her behalf was scraping the barrow! He'd have been better just saying she's guilty as sin and I cant get her out of it!!!

It must have been incredibly difficult for the victims to sit and listen to her. And who'd have thought that Rita Skeeter would still be causing Harry grief...that woman has a heck of a lot to answer to and I hope she's not having a good time "on the other side"..

Author's Response: Your comments made me smile. Yes, Rita Skeeter is still a thorn in Harry's side, ghost or not! I think she influenced more people that she knew or hoped for and that influence is still lingering at the Daily Prophet. I researched several websites in preparation for this chapter on the sorts of decisions a jury could make and after deliberating the pros and cons of a drawn-out discussion--and given that Shirley Gorman's barrister was such a nincompoop--I decided they needed to come to a swift and unanimous verdict. Your comment about what his last speech should have been made me laugh. Thanks for that.

Yay!!!! So glad she's taken care of!!!

Author's Response: Life in Azkaban... couldn't happen to a nicer person! Glad you agree with me. Thanks for reading.

Wow, this was such a fantastic chapter! I'm sorry I did not have a chance to read and review it sooner!

The Matron was so obviously sick and deranged before, but her testimony here shed a whole new light on the matter. If she would not be such a danger to everyone outside the walls of Azkaban, I'd say she really needs some severe psychological help.

While I felt bad for Harry and Draco during the more personal parts of the trial, I enjoyed the scene where they talked outside of the courtroom. There reactions definitely made sense. I only had one moment of confusion in this chapter: Ginny mentioned how Hermione would fight to persuade the others on the sentence of Azkaban, but it seemed that nothing was really said on the matter. She and the others cast their vote and the sentence was given without any discussion. Not a big deal, but I found it hard to follow in that sense. I loved the used of the mirrors, though. Wouldn't those be awesome in real life? lol

You did a spectacular job with the trial, and I'm so glad that it seems that everyone is seeing a bit of justice in the end. Can't wait to tackle the other chapter you have posted. :)

Author's Response: No problem about the delayed review, I'll gladly answer all reviews no matter when they come. As for the Matron, she was truly psychotic and possibly in Azkaban, someone might try to help her, but I doubt it. The Draco and Harry parts were meant to tug at the reader's heartstrings because it would be inconceivable if they didn't find it hard to sit through the parts of her testimony concerning them and their families. The research I dd into how a British trial is run showed me that if there was a unanimous vote, that if everyone agreed without the need for discussion, then the jury was to be brought back into the courtroom and the verdict and sentencing pronounced immediately thereafter. Hermione's mirror was definitely a fun piece of very useful magic. The next chapter is a happy one. I hope you enjoy it. Thanks for reading and reviewing.

I loved the trial. Mr Campbell was the perfect defender - greasy, and trembling. He reminded me of one of the lawyers from 'My Cousin Vinnie' A lot of closure in this chapter, I loved the jury coming back so quickly.

Author's Response: In real life, I was on a jury that deliberated for five days before we found the defendant guilty. I couldn't put the characters through the waiting or tediousness of sitting through the petty arguing that went on in that jury room. Thus, the unanimous verdict and a speedy trip to Azkaban for the Matron. I'm glad you thought Mr Campbell was the appropriate solicitor for her. I was afraid I'd made him too comical. Thanks for reading. The next chapter will be out on March 15th. See you then...

This story is definitely one of my most favorite and I, very anxiously wait for the next chapter. Please continue your great work.

Author's Response: It tickles me pink to know that you've "favorited" my story. There are two more chapters plus the epilogue and Chapter 39 goes up next week. I look forward to reading your next review. Until next Thursday...

WooHoo! That was a while in coming, but worth the wait. Thank you for writing another superb chapter in an excellent story.

Author's Response: You're welcome. there are two more chapters plus the epilogue, so there is a bit more to the story. Until next week, then...

Kinda miss the Dementors here. A kiss two days after the hearing would have been the perfect sentence!

Update soon, please.

Author's Response: I did consider the Dementor's Kiss, but after what the Matron did to so many people, I decided to give her a good long time to think about it. The Kiss just seemed too humane to me! Next update will be next Thursday. Thanks for reading and writing to me. Until next week, then...

Great chapter. I guess if the star witness admits to everything and more, there is only one verdict you can give. Monetary rewards don't fix anything, but at least for the youngsters, it will something nice to have for the future. Glad she was sent to Azkaban. Nicely done.

Author's Response: I'm glad you approve of Shirley Gorman's punishment. I agree that monetary awards fix nothing except maybe helping with various expenses not covered by the National Health Service. Unfortunately, the victims are still left with their scars. Thanks for reading and sharing your opinion. The next chapter is out next week, so see you then.

So glad for the udate, now I'm feeling like something is going to happen and we haven't seen the last of the Matron. Nice twist bringing Rita back as a thorn in Harry's side. I hope she is truly and most sincerely dead.
Can't wat for more!

Author's Response: We've definitely seen the last of the Matron. She's gone, gone, gone, never to surface again. There aren't any dark lords to spring the prisoners from Azkaban any more, so it's safe to say that she won't be hurting anyone any more. As for Rita, I couldn't resist having her "help" the Matron along her path of evil. Like Harry and Ginny confirmed, darling Rita died in 2005 and she is really and truly dead. My next chapter will be out next week. See you Thursday!

I am glad you have got this out of the way. Just a bit confused as to how much money the Matron has. 48,000 Galleons sounds like a lot of compensation.

Author's Response: Everything I read on the websites I used as research material for this chapter pointed out that compensation to the victims was based on the defendant's total worth. In actuality, the Matron really did have a nice tidy sum in her vault because of all the royalties she'd received over the years from St Mungo's--despite her allegations that she wasn't receiving anything--and since her sentence was life in prison, the Wizengamot didn't have any qualms about distributing that wealth to her victims. I hope this helps explain why each of her victims received what they did. Thanks for writing to me. See you next week...

boy you hit the nail on the head. It totally made me even ill. I am glad that that nasty bit is out of the way. i felt bad, sort of reminded me of Misery, when Kathy Bates thinks she is doing the right thing in her own twisted way. Scary. Loved that there was some closure on the case for many of the victims. I was glad to see you spoke of Harry and Ginny, Scorpius and Brian & their families. Bravo!

Author's Response: I never thought I was patterning my villain after the one in Misery, but yes, the Matron does have a few of her characteristics and justifications. No matter what, she's a nasty piece of work. I'm glad you approve of how I handled her victims, too. Thanks for writing to me. See you next week!
