Your Ginny is definitely brightening Harry's life now lol

Author's Response: She does have that effect, doesn't she?

Not bad, Harry. Takes a pretty girl to a pub for drinks is almost always a fun time. So far no mention of Hermione. Interested in seeing if she and Ron were even friends.

Author's Response: Oh, Hermione will pop up eventually, as will Ron. I really didn't like Ron back in those days...

Loved the drunken conversation between Harry and Ginny about their pasts, likes, and dislikes in the muggle pub. I was pleasantly surprised that I picked up on all of the jokes.

Author's Response: Well done!

Having enjoyed the Butterfly Effect, I thought I would have a look at some of your other stores and boy, am I glad that I did!

These first two chapters have been brilliant. It helps that I know Knightrider Street and that particular pub although it has changed a fair bit from when I frequented it while working in Lombard Street.

The sparks between Harry and Ginny are brilliant. This is the couple that I love the honest to goodness hero that tries to deny what he is and the feisty redhead who doesn't put up with anyones bull.

And oh goodness what memories with Gordon is a Moron, its years since I heard that.

I am so glad this story is complete and I can just read on. Damn, will have to put it down for now as I have work in the morning.

Author's Response: Living in Salisbury, I tend to take the train into London which deposits me at Waterloo. As Mrs B is an art student (sorry, as of Wednesday she is no longer a student as she just handed in the last bit of work for her Fine Art degree) we tend to spend a lot of time going up and down the Southbank. As Knightrider Street was just a short hop over the Millennium Bridge we used to end up there quite a lot. As you get further into the story you’ll find H&G frequenting another London pub where I regularly got smashed out of my tiny mind in. Oh, how I miss those days! ‘Gordon is a Moron’ was one of those stupid songs that everyone at school used to sing endlessly – god, I hated it! In hindsight, I should probably have worked ‘Two pints of lager and a packet of crisps, please’ in there as well.

Love their banter! They are very cute together and a great first date. Susan Bones makes sense - Amelia Bones would have been a big political target. Can't wait to learn more about how the Weasleys fared at Hogwarts without Harry. Interested to learn more about Sharon - at least she has a good name, right :)

Author's Response: I thought the Bones family would actually make a better political target for Lucius then the Weasleys, and of course in this story the Weasleys didn’t have any association with Harry. You might not be too happy with me using Sharon as a name once you’ve found out what she’s like.

Love the story so far. This was a fun chapter to read. Usually I wait until the end of a story to review, but I like your writing style and the chapter enough I wanted to give credit where it's due before I read further in.

Your sense of humor shines through your writing and it's plain fun to read a bit of fluff like this. You've done a good job in my eyes so far of characterizing Harry and Ginny as actual people (it's a difficult concept for many authors) in a realistic way I could see them both developing in their twenties. Ginny is a shameless flirt so far, but I like it. It's a nice deviation from the usually shy Ginny.

Author's Response: Wow, it seems a lifetime ago I wrote this. I can’t believe I only started posting it less than a year ago! As noted I wanted to portray Harry and Ginny as normal(-ish) twenty something’s living in Britain and I think I might have projected a bit too much of my own personality onto Harry in this. I like to think my writing style has progressed a bit since I wrote this story. My latest one, ‘Harry Potter and the Butterfly Effect’, is a much darker tale than either this or it’s follow up ‘The Oath’. That’s not to say I won’t write more comedy based stuff in the future, in fact I have an incredibly silly one-shot story saved on my hard drive which I might post after ‘Butterfly’. Mind you, I also have a nearly completed 13 chapter Auror Harry! story about him chasing a serial killer and I’ve just started a DarkGinny! story, too. It gets addictive this writing lark.

Yep, you can get Gordon gin in NZ as well, must be ex colonial thing:))

Author's Response: Are you from NZ? For some reason I thought you’d be German with a name like that. Just shows, you should never assume. Gordon’s gin was only used for comedy purposes and Mrs Brennus would like it to be known that Bombay Sapphire is much nicer.

Hmmm I've read this before, but don't remember most of it, so... will continue onto chapter three tomorrow.

Author's Response: If you’re like me you’ll read so much HP fan fiction that it all starts merging into one after a while. It’s a happy day when I find something completely different and original. That’s the problem with coming to this FF writing lark so late – everything’s already been done. Still, I bet I’m the only person ever to have worked a Teletubbie into a Harry Potter story, for which I will always be proud.

I laughed aloud at the dictation quill trying to write the sound Ginny made when she spat out her tea but I laughed even louder at Harry realising their whole conversation had been recorded...lol! I think he's right about not wanting that turned in for evidence...hee hee!

And I sniggered when Harry paniced when he realised in all his ruminations he hadn't thought of Ginny kicking him where it hurts if she didn't like him asking her out! And no doubt he is flouting the rules, but it's about time he cut a break:)

Oh poor Harry...lol! I'm sorry Harry but I laughed at your predicament...it's the woman who's meant to change her clothese umpteen times...lol!

I loved their drunken banter and when I realised the connection I was like "I love the title of this chapter!"...lol!

I also laughed hard at Author Note Number 2. I love having a British HP fan fic...some Americans are really good and research so carefully but there is nothing like the real thing:)

Author's Response: I’m glad you found author note 2 amusing but I assure you Mrs Brennus didn’t! Just as well it was a warm day. She was, however, rather sticky by the time we got on the train.

Great chapter. Fun andimmediately compelling the connection between Harry and Ginny seemed to come quite naturally, very nice.

Author's Response: Well, as JKR says; they are soul mates. At this point in the story Harry’s in a pretty dark place and he’s instantly attracted to the light Ginny brings to his life. Really ‘The List’ is a redemption story at its basic level, admittedly one with lots of smut and drinking in it.

Being British I got all that was said, some of which brought a smile to my face (Gordon is a moron - I remember it well!!)

A another good chapter, like the way you got them to get to know each other over a pint, very British, the Yanks would probably have them meet over coffee!!

Author's Response: Coffee is what you drink to keep you awake at work! Any British socialising of course involves alcohol.

Aww, I love sweet, milky tea :) Perhaps it's a girl thing? BTW, you warned about this being dry and British, but I personally love hearing these characters speak as they should and would. Thanks for that!

Author's Response: Thanks. I have seen stories where Ginny talks like a Valley Girl (like – totally) and I can only hope the authors were being ironic. Maybe I should write a story where Ginny has a thick Devon accent (alrrrigght my luver!). Or maybe not.

This is really funny. I like it a lot and now I also feel like having a few G&Ts myself!

Author's Response: This story was not intended to promote irresponsible drinking. But if you’re opening the bottle I’ll have one too…

Reviewer: Imperator 277 Signed Date: 2012.05.18 - 09:39PM Title: Chapter 2 - Gordon is a moron!

With regards to my last comment about Malfoy and the diary, it is obvious that he didn't know it was a horcrux, but how did he know it would open the chamber of secrets? If he knew that it contained the essence of his master's 16 year old self, he should have put two and two together and realized what the diary was. He is not THAT incompetent. anyone agree?

Author's Response: I suppose the question is did he care? Malfoy seems pretty convinced that his master is gone and not coming back so he felt no constraint in using an item so precious to Voldemort for his own gain. IMHO I would guess that he knew many of the diaries powers but not that it was a horcrux. If he had known about the horcruxes (and by extension that Voldemort was alive in some form) surely he would have made more effort to find his master? Malfoy’s reaction in the graveyard during GOF show’s he wasn’t expecting Voldemort to return.

This was a good chapter. Loved how Ginny reacted to finding out who Harry was. Ginny is Hilarious and both of them are funny drunks. I though that Malfoy put the diary in Ginny's cauldron, not Bones'. did Harry save her? Cannot wait for more.

Author's Response: Glad you are enjoying the story. I love writing Ginny and some of the story will be from her POV. As noted in my response to previous reviews, in my AU Malfoy gave the diary to Susan Bones, not Ginny. My prime motivation for this was that I didn’t want Harry and Ginny to have met at any time previous to the story and if they had been mixed up in the whole Chamber of Secrets thing then it would have strained credibility a bit. I think I had Harry involved in an earlier draft but I changed it. It really doesn’t matter either way so I’ll let you decide.

To answer point six, yes Gordon's is sold worldwide. It's great if you want to drink G&T's on a budget, but I'd rather drink Hendrick's.
In regards to point three, didn't Lucious Malfoy slip Ginny the diary to discredit Arthur Weasley? But it's your story, so whatever.
Finally, I'm enjoying the hell out this story. Thanks for writing it and I look forward to reading the rest.
-sam

Author's Response: I don’t drink gin myself but Mrs Brennus is rather fond of it. She can’t stand Gordon’s either and prefers Bombay Sapphire. More of a whisky man myself. As you correctly state, in cannon Malfoy uses the diary to try to discredit Arthur Weasley who is trying to get some legal legislation passed that Lucius doesn't like. In my story I just felt that the fact Potter wasn’t in any way connected to the Weasley’s was enough to encourage Malfoy to go after bigger political fish, in this case the Bone’s family. Amelia Bones was a fearsome adversary and Malfoy would definitely want her out the way. What’s the fun of an AU story unless you play around a bit? Thanks for reviewing and I hope you enjoy future chapters.

Interesting first date! A bit suprised at both of them getting so "pissed" but it did let them relax after a rather exciting meeting last chapter.

Author's Response: Getting pissed on a first date is a British tradition! It certainly did me and Mrs Brennus no harm.

Another excellent chapter ! really enjoying this story.Kutgw

I was 11 in 1977 so remember Gordon is a moron very well .Ginny and Harry night at the pub sounds
very remenicent of a lot of mine! Nothing quite like a good pub with a roaring fire, good friend and a lager
or 2.3

Author's Response: Crystaltips, we are of the same generation! I was 10 in 1977 and remember watch Jilted Jon on Top of the Pops and thinking ‘what is this??’ I’ve tried to make Harry and Ginny typical British twenty-something’s so naturally their first date is in a pub. They may occasionally frequent similar establishments in later chapters! How’s Alistair by the way?
