Powerful chapter. Nott and Zabini make very believable villains. I can well imagine what might have happened to Ginny had Harry not been there. Albus's inaction is inexcusable.

Author's Response: I'm very proud of the number of people who ended up hating Dumbledore after reading this story!

Another great chapter of a truly fantastic story.

It's few and far between that I think you find a truly well written AU story, not since the masterpiece that is "Taking Control" and it's incomplete sequel "Free Life" (unfortunately not updated since late 2011) by 'Fake A Smile' have I enjoyed an AU story that and author has been able to make me love, or in some cases hate, (cough: Dumbledore!) their own AU versions of characters than those in the Canon...

That's not to say that your versions share that much in common with their Counterparts by 'Fake A Smile', they are still so very different, your much more cynical and openly defiant Harry is as different from Taking Control's quietly subversive Harry as can be, yet your portrayal of the progression of the characters from who we once knew them to be to who they have become is just as believable if not even more so than in "Taking Control". This is something which many people try, and fail to accomplish... and their stories suffer because of it.

I can't wait for more!

Author's Response: Ah, ‘Taking Control’, what a classic! I have to say it was that story that was partly responsible for me having a go writing myself (it was Northumbrian’s very British flavoured tales that finally pushed me into it). It’s a real shame that ‘Free Life’ appears to have been abandoned – anyone know if Fake A Smile is active anywhere else? I guess I feel happiest writing AU because I can then just ignore elements of canon that I don’t like, plus I believe unless you’re going to write straight ‘after the battle’ stories you may as well shake things up a bit, there are enough ‘re-write’ stories out there already IMHO. In terms of re-writing characters I think the secret is to take an element of that person’s personality and exaggerate it, rather than just completely changing the person. In this story I’ve obviously cast Dumbledore as a manipulative, Machiavellian character. Now, my Dumbledore is not really anything like the one in canon, but the book Dumbledore has enough ‘grey areas’ that I can at least play up readers doubts about him. The AU stories that I find hard to swallow are the ones where characters suddenly have a complete personality change (Draco becoming ‘good’ if a much used example). Anyway, thanks for reading and I take it as a huge compliment to be mentioned in the same breath as ‘Taking Control’.

I found your wonderful story last night and stayed up till dawn today reading . It is wonderful and I am so glad its finally gotten to where the storylines merge and we will see Ginny and Harry together. I have to say, I really despise Dumbledore in this story. I have a feeling Harry is going to have to deal harshly with him one day soon. Its going to be interesting I think when Harry and Ron do meet. Waiting axiously for your next update.

Author's Response: Ah, the anticipated meeting of Ron and Harry! In fact, their first friendly meeting will be at the very start of the next chapter. I’m sure they’ll hit it off straight away – literally.

Dumbledore was a bully - that is why he let's the Slytherin's get away with a lot - in fan fiction and in cannon!!? Ginny is right, he is a misguided old senile fool that thinks if you treat someone nice, they will turn away from evil. Good in theory but with Death Eaters not wise!!

So Harry is off to get Ginny a wand on Saturday?? Good show! Keep the chapters coming, it is a really fantastic story!

Author's Response: I’m not even trying to pretend that Saturday isn’t a wand buying shopping trip. Harry wants Ginny to be able to protect herself which means getting her the means to do so ASAP. She might learn some things of interest to her, as well.

It 'is sad that Dumbledore can't and won't really see what going in school . I hope for next chapter soon ,this one is really good like always.

Author's Response: I’m glad you enjoyed it. Dumbledore will be (forcibly)shown the error of his ways shortly.

Ah the story is getting more interesting. I hope to read of a duel between Snivilous and Harry. Where is snivilous & dumbles get kicked where it hurts the most.

Time for the truth to come out.

Author's Response: The truth is out there… but it’s a few chapters away yet.

Let me start off by saying how much I've loved your story. It is incredibly entertaining and well written. I must say, though, that cannon Dumbledore is one of my favorite characters...and here is is my favorite one to hate. I just have to ask you how you feel about canon Dumbledore? If we are simply calling the flapping of butterfly wings (in you butterfly effect) Harry being beaten so badly that it summons Dumbledore, I find it hard to believe that the Dumbledore I know and love could be this evil, maniacal man. So my question is ultimately whether you think Dumbledore actually was this evil in canon, or if you took some liberty with his charcter to provide some additional conflict (which I am totally fine with)? Just curious...

Keep up the great story!

Author's Response: I’ve had some very long conversations about this very subject, notably with ProfessorBinns79 who is also a big Dumbledore fan. The simple answer is no, I don’t believe canon Dumbledore is anything like this version. I do, however, think he was rather duplicitous, especially at the beginning at the start of the books. I genuinely believe that Albus knew about the Horcrux in Harry from the start and fully believed that he would have to be sacrificed at some point to defeat Voldemort. All this stuff about Harry being stuck with the Dursleys to ‘ensure he had a proper childhood’ just doesn’t make any sense. If there was the slightest hint that Harry would have to grow up to fight Voldemort than he should have received training from the start; it could easily have been balanced so he still had a good childhood. No, despite what he said Dumbledore at least suspected Harry would have to die, the discovery of the diary only confirmed it. For me, however, the story changes at the end of GoF after Albus learns that Voldemort took Harry’s blood thus meaning that Harry could actually survive. Dumbledore’s attitude seems to change after that, arranging Occlumency lesions with Snape and then giving him information about Voldemort. His last act was to (try) to ensure that the Dark Lord didn’t get his hands on the elder wand. In many ways I consider the whole Harry Potter story a kind of tale of redemption for Dumbledore, although I doubt many people will see it the same way. The Dumbledore I’ve written, however, is just a complete bastard. Notice I didn’t let him have a phoenix? He’s far too much of a git for that.

This is a great story. Love this take on Harry, and is even better with Ginny in the picture. Can't wait till they set Hogwarts right!

Author's Response: See, me leaving Ginny out of the story for so long has just made everyone appreciate her more. It was all part of the plan, I tell you!

Author's Response: Hopefully the next chapter should be along soon; I’m on a bit of a roll at the moment.

Interesting. I hope Harry finds out soon just what the Headmaster did. I'm all for a duel to the death. Harry v Dumbledore, yeah?

Author's Response: Harry v Dumbledore? But they’re on the same side, fighting Voldemort! Nah, only joking. I think it’s fairly obvious in the way I’ve set this up that Harry will at some point find out exactly what Dumbledore’s done. That said, I am an awkward git so it’s unlikely I’ll have written this the way people will expect it. Evil, aren’t I?

I hate Dumbledore so much. To turn a blind eye to the actions of the Slytherins, especially when Harry just flat out told him of them, is a crime itself. He has no place being headmaster any longer. I hope to see Harry put Dumbledore and Snape in their places, maybe using McGonagall to assist him. As for the Harry and Ginny interactions, I really liked them. Ginny is slowly breaking through the block and remembering their past meeting. I'm going to assume that Harry is taking Ginny to get a new wand, so then Hogwarts will need to deal with a fully powered Ginny as well. Great stuff. Keep up the good work.

Author's Response: He’s not a very pleasant chap this Dumbledore, is he? On the plus side, he hasn’t tried to force his lemon drops on anyone yet. Actually, his eyes haven’t twinkled in this story, either. Damn, I’m way behind in my Dumbledore clichés quota; he doesn’t even have a sodding phoenix! Back to the drawing board.

22 chapters in to this brilliant masterpiece and there is still no doubt why I always vote for this in the DSTAs!!! You are the Picasso of the pen! Keep this gem of a story coming Brennus!!!!!!!! :):):):):)

Author's Response: Wow, I’m going to have to print that review out and stick it on my wall! Not to seem ungrateful, but I’m not really into any of the cubists; I’m more of a Pre-Raphaelite kind of guy. You couldn’t swap Picasso for Rossetti or Millais, could you?

more please, more!
totally top notch chapter as always. I'm so glad Ginny's getting her memory back, and I love the interaction between her and Harry. :)

Author's Response: Ah, there’s nothing I like more than to hear a girl begging me for more (sorry, sorry; I’ll drag my mind out of the gutter…). The next chapters are quite Harry/Ginny heavy and even a bit fluffy in places. We’ll also get to see what happens when Ginny gets a fully working six inches of wood in her hand (damn! Sorry, I tried, really I did…)

Just when I thought Dumbledoor couldn't get worse ... Anyway, very well written chapter, as always. I'm looking forward to the '' date ''. Thanks for sharing, Brennus :)

Author's Response: Oh, Dumbledore’s going to get worse, trust me. He has more insidious plans in his footlocker yet.

Loved it.

Is Dumbledore the headmaster of Hogwarts or just someone to sit in the big chair in a big, stuffy office??? Kindness and gentleness is not the way to treat death nibbles! Dumbledore must be wearing blinkers on his head to not see what is going on at Hogwarts.

I'm glad that Ginny is starting to break through the memory block on her own. Just shows how powerful she is, even though her wand is knackered.

Bring on the next chapter.

Author's Response: Dumbledore has his eyes firmly set on ‘the big picture’ and is blissfully unaware of what’s happening right under his nose. As we will discover later he does have a means of observing what goes on around Hogwarts but does realise the system is fatally flawed. ‘m sure he and Harry will be having a friendly chat about it sometime soon.

Excellent. It's rare that I bother to log in and review (I'm naughty I know) but I felt the need here

This is best 'PowerfulHarry' story I've ever read. The way you've gone about it, the attitude he has, and the changes In the rest of the character's actions, are all incredibly believable, particularly Dumbledore. I don't think I will ever want this story to end. Hopefully, there is no worries of that yet anyway

~Tim

Author's Response: I’m terrible in leaving reviews as well. The trouble is, I’m getting so many people leaving reviews to my story that I never get a chance to review anyone else’s (not that I’m complaining in the slightest, it’s great). There are so many good writers on this site that I feel guilty at not expressing my admiration a bit more, but I just struggle to find the time. Sigh. I’d wanted to make my PowerfulHarry! at least believable, hence why he ended up hospitalised after many of his early fights. That said, I’m itching to write a MegaPowerfulHarry story at some point. I’m afraid this story will have to end at some point, quite probably just after the end of chapter 31 when I stopped adding words to it ;-) Actually, I’m pretty sure most people will like how I end the story; judging by the reviews I’ve had so far most readers on SIYE like nothing more than a nice bit of malicious vengeance and that’s just what I have lined up. Against whom I’m not saying…

Lol, gotta love Hermione! Such a crackpot. Totally enjoying the Harry and Ginny time and I'm going to stop being annoying and pester you for a quick update. Instead, I'll be waiting very (I'm)patiently until then!

Author's Response: Ah, poor Hermione. Without Harry’s moderating influence and Ron teaching her bad habits she’s a bit much at this point. I’ll use this moment to remind everyone that at the start of this story I said all relationships and character deaths would be (mostly) as per canon. So, will I be able to perform a minor miracle and get Ron and Hermione together in this story? I like a challenge!
