Wow! I've read a bunch of the Someone-Gives-the-Dursleys-What-They-Des erve stories over the years, but this one feels different. It acknowledges the pain while giving Harry a magnanimous choice to do good with what could have been used for revenge. I like what this says about Harry's character. Excited to see how it affects Petunia and the Weasleys.

Author's Response: I am glad you see that this whole thing is much more about Harry than the Dursleys. They are beyond salvation regardless of circumstance, but Harry needed to be true to himself, and he was in my book. Thank You!

The arrangements regarding the bank account are astounding. Harry's suggestion that the Weasleys will et part of the money is consistently. They have done much more for the purpose for which the account was originally set up than the Dursleys.
The question whether the Dursleys deserve the money is difficult. The first answer, of course, is no. What would have been different in Harry's life, when the Dursley had the money from the very beginning? This is pure speculation. Even the question of whether Harry was mistreated is speculative. As far as I remember there are no much details in canon, it is finally a children's book. It was unpleasant for Harry. That's for sure. In fanfiction on the other hand, you can find the full range of interpretations.
Each author should decide for him- or herself what level of mistreatment he or she wants to have in the story.
Back to my question, what's the purpose to introduce the account? I suspect that one concrete purpose was to provide the Weasley with some money ...
The most important at the end: It was nice to see Ginny and Harry back together! However, I am still waiting for some alone time for the both of them to discuss their actual situation, of course interrupted with some distractions, lol.
Even if I repeat myself: Great chapter! Thank you!

Author's Response: It is all rather complicated to be sure, but hopefully the process itself has provided some expansion of the HP world and more understanding of how things work, particularly Gringott's. Clearly you have understood the many questions. The "what ifs" are many and tough to tackle but they reveal Harry's level of understanding and maturity. The introduction of the account is a precursor to unveiling an whole new aspect of Harry's world, namely, as you will soon discover through reading... Harry's family. Harry and Ginny will get a few more bits of alone time in the next chapter as you already know, but I am guessing it will not yet be quite what you want to see between them. So, keep reading, the story is still laying itself out and it will get much more complicated before it begins to really resolve. I do hope you will continue to enjoy it. Thanks for reading and commenting.

I am enjoying the story. It's well written.

I can see Harry giving his aunt enough money to ensure they're not going to lose their house. A house after all is a necessity and Harry is a good person. But I really can't see him just allowing them to become millionaires over night. Petunia of the books would never ever give money to the Weasleys of her own free will.

I also have slight reservations about how much help Dumbledore can give.... He's after all just an imprint of Dumbledore... There are limitations to his knowledge imo. And Dumbledore likes to let Harry figure things out for himself, evident from the very first book. I can't see him just handing him answers now especially as he's dead!

But a very interesting story so far and we'll written. Thank you

Author's Response: Thank you for taking the time to read and review. And welcome, as it appears you are a new reader. If it helps, understand that Harry was being very forceful when he suggested that she should give part of the money to the Weasley's, and she was still under the influence of the Keep Calm Powder, which no doubt eased her decision making process and helped her do what was right. Read on and you will see what becomes of the Durseley's and learn more about the Dumbledore card and what its limitations may be. I hope you will continue to enjoy the story, and continue to comment! Thank you so much, and happy reading!

I don't see it as similar to Ron raising an Acromantula. But I understand the parallel. Interesting insight. I could envision him giving them some money - or rather setting up a fund they could have access to, if they needed it. But it is hard to imagine him giving them the lump sum to squander as they wish. But maybe that is part of the lesson. I've been reading too much Pride & Prejudice lately - it reminds me a lot of Darcy paying off Wickham.

Author's Response: I can see that parallel. I guess it all comes down to, Harry doesn't care about the amount, in fact the amount has little or no meaning to him. All he knows about money is that he has plenty. The point is it wouldn't matter if it was a quarter the amount, or twice the amount. Later in his life, amounts of money, and the making of money will probably become important to him. Perhaps at that time he will look back with some regret about how much he's given away, but I doubt it. What seems to throw everyone is the amount. But that is the product of interest, not that an exorbitant amount was paid out at any one time. You have probably hit the nail on the head in suggesting that the Dursley's (particularly Vernon) will likely squander the money. Meanwhile, Harry has moved on and I had hoped that the readers would move with him. We will find out what happened to the Dursley's later. Thanks for the comments.

I really like Harry's mature attitude. He's right about his having won the long-term battle, mostly because after he turns seventeen, he'll just up and walk out of the Dursleys' lives and never have need to interact with them again, unless he wants to. He didn't have to deed over the money to Petunia, but as he says, he doesn't need it, nor does he want it, so since it's up to him how he divides the sum, it is my opinion that he's being quite fair to his relatives and hugely giving to the Weasleys.

By the way, Ron had a great idea to put the calming powder in Petunia's tea. It was nice, too, that Harry was able to introduce another "nearly normal" young wizard to his aunt as proof that wizards really are just human beings!

Author's Response: Harry, is growing up, or at least I am trying to help him do so. Sometimes I think I am in a bit of a hurry. You are right that Harry will never have to interact with the Dursleys again.
Putting the powder in Petunia's drink seemed like a very Ron-ish thing to think, so I made it his idea, he is very clever in surprising ways.
I am so glad you seem to be enjoying the story. Thank you so much for all your comments. It is really a great incentive to keep the story going when life turns to S@#t as it so often seems to lately.
Happy reading!

Okay I don't think I can read anymore. Reading about Harry giving that money to the people who abused him was revolting. I mean if he didn't want it he could have given it to charity, or to people whose families were harmed by Death Eater. I mean that many galleons is four million pounds at the five to one rate and he could have helped tons of people.

Instead he rewarded monsters. Yeah not going to be able to continue, good luck with your fic.

Author's Response: I do wish you would reconsider. Keep in mind that the issue of money is more to do with Harry's growth as a inherently kind and generous person, and not so much to do with the Dursley's deserving it. Also, remember that Money cannot buy happiness and that is something that the Dursley's rather lack. (If it helps, I promise you that the Dursley's will get their come-upance before long.) The whole issue of abuse in the HP stories is a matter of some lively debate, ranging in perception from those who think Harry was quite literally physically abused, to those who feel his abuse was confined to psychological. My own individual perception is that the Dursely's never physically abused Harry, excepting of course that he was only minimally fed and clothed.
I hoped that I had made it clear through the narrative that the issue represented a significant victory for Harry over the Dursley's in that he came through the experience of enduring his life with them without even one of their goals for him being realized.
I would encourage you to read at least the next chapter before you cast the story to the side. I would very much hate to lose you as a clearly thinking, and passionate, reader, who's comments I suspect would be extremely valuable to me as an author.
Clearly, as an artist, I have done the significant job of raising deep feeling in you, and challenging your perceptions, now I would further challenge you to continue reading, and afford me the opportunity to help you consider things in a broader light.
As far as what good Harry could, in fact do with his wealth? These issues will yet be addressed, and the possibilities are not at all lost on him.
I do hope you will not give up on the story just yet, simply because you think differently regarding this one small aspect of the larger whole? You would be sorely missed!
Thank you so much for heartfelt reading of the story so far, and your honest comments.
Also, I am very open to debate on any topic and would welcome further discussion on any subject be it part of this story, or issue of canon in general.
Happy reading!

Author's Response: The answer to the question of where the money came from is given in chapter 9. I hope you will find in in yourself to read that far before you give up?

I'm glad that Harry was able to tell Petunia how he feels and hopefully be able to help the Weasleys as well. The calming powder was a good idea and seems to have worked well. I have some reservations about Harry being so dependent on the Dumbledore card - he doesn't have to think or figure things out or anything. If he runs into a situation, he runs and asks his helpful all knowing card. That doesn't in any way help Harry grow as a person or prepare him to face Voldemort. He need to be confident in his own decisions and he never will be as long as he has Dumbledore in his pocket to help him. It would make more sense if the card was only available at certain times or something like that. That's the reason Dumbledore was killed off in Canon - all of the adults who may have helped or sheltered him died forcing him to stand on his own.

Author's Response: Your reservations are noted. But personally I do not believe it will become a problem. The card, while knowledgeable, is not quite Albus Dumbledore and can do nothing by way of actual protection. Please let me know a few more chapters in if your reservations are persistent. I certainly don;t want anything holding Harry back, Thanks so much for your comments, this one is perhaps one of the most helpful as it gives me a perspective to consider. I hope you continue to enjoy what I am creating here. Thanks again.
