Poor Rita. If ever a bug deserved to be squashed, it was definitely her. Sirius should certainly be very suspicious of Harry being able to hide the body so easily. I am glad that Tonks is on board with helping Harry and Ginny as much as possible. Great story.

Author's Response: She had only herself to blame. It's not like most people try to kill insects that come into their home, is it?

Great chapter and a lot happened. I was not expecting the but Sirius squashed in the last chapter to be Rita! I thought it was some trick Ginny had pulled to drug him so she could slip into Harry's room after curfew. Speaking of, I know we already had a conversation about Harry and Ginny's ages and how quickly their relationship seems to be progressing, but I am still having a hard time wrapping my mind around their activities. I guess I'm a fuddie-duddie:) The dueling scenes were fun to read and again I am always impressed with how easily you are able to portray these action sequences. Glad to see Tonks is on board, but there are A LOT of Unbreakable Vows being made! That's a dangerous undertaking, I hope nothing bad comes of it.

Author's Response: You should also know that I'll drag anything down to my own perverted and degrading standards! Besides, it's a standard joke in Britain that most secondary and comprehensive schools need to operate their own nursery due to the number of teenage pregnancies there are these days. Makes you proud to be British, it really does. Regarding the Unbreakable Vows, don't you think an awful of of the problems the light side had in the Harry Potter series could have been prevented by a few Vows? Why is the only time we see one being given between Snape and Narcissa? Dumbledore for one could have learnt a few things about operational security from his Potions Master.

First of all let me just say that I'm extremely happy that the fanfiction is still alive and well and that there are still awesome authors like you writing about! Thanks for keeping the love alive haha

Now for the review itself: In the last chapter, during that last part where Sirius crushed the bug that turned out to be Rita, I seriously thought he was just making it all up in order to get out of the room hahaha! And amusingly enough, during the part where they hear screaming in the morning, my first thought was "oh it's Mrs. Black's portrait screaming because of a visitor. Probably Tonks." but then we get to the kitchen and there's a leg sticking out of the bin and so I started thinking "oh wow Tonks got herself stuck in a bin? She really is clumsy!" [followed by "wow that is one large bin"]. but eventually I finally understood that it was a real corpse and then it all just dawned on me... brilliant! and yeah, I'm pretty slow on the uptake

Author's Response: Glad you're enjoying the story, and that's it being a constant surprise to you! Hopefully, part three of this little saga should be up in a week or so. At least it will be if I can get the last damn chapter written!!!!

I think I'm really slow because I did wonder about the bug, but then I thought 'No, he wouldn't do that!' Apparently I was wrong. A rather fitting end, afterall bugs often get caught up in spiderwebs, don't they?
Great chapter!

Author's Response: I wouldn't do that? Sharon, you should know by now that my depravity has no limits. Plus, I quite like spiders and a squashed Rita would make a lovely snack for them.

A befitting end for the lovely Rita! Bugging people really seems to be a high-risk job. What surprised me a bit was your claim that
the Vanishing Spell doesn't work permanently on organic material. Wouldn't that make this spell mostly useless? One couldn't even use it to get rid of spilt food or drink... But then, you needed them to go back into the forest.

Author's Response: I did say I was probably taking liberties with the spell, but you can see my point that it would be extremely dangerous if you could permanently vanish organic material. Surely it would be used as a combat spell otherwise.

Harry's reaction there towards the end: "He said that? What a pile of. . . " seems a little over-the-top. It's not like Harry's surprised at Dumbledore's manipulations--I would have expected more of a sarcastic "That's a surprise!" than a rage-filled venting.

Anyway, loved the first part, where you led us to think Ginny was involved in major subterfuge, when she was really just sneaking into Harry's bed. And I have to mention that I wondered, at the time, whether Ginny was letting her guard down too easily after seeing the tripwire.

Thanks!

Author's Response: I'm not sure, Harry's more about over-the-top rage, than sarcasm, isn't he? Ginny was obviously use to dealing with those pure amateurs the twins, rather than a fully-fledged Marauder.

Another fun update. Last chapter I remember thinking "Ew! Sirius just squished Rita!" but then I seemed to completly forget aboth that when they found the body in the dust bin. Gross! On the one hand I love seeing Rita "get it", but on the other hand the situation struck me as perhaps too reminicent of the situation with Theordore Nott in the last book. I hope you are not going to have Harry and his friends off-ing people left and right now! I do like the bit of "pranking" going on with Sirius. Despite his reputation as a Marauder during his school years, most author's don't show him doing much pranking. I could see a regular war developing between Sirius and Harry/Ginny which could be loads of fun. In any case, I'll be looking forward to your next chapter.

Author's Response: I few people on FF.Net commented that they hoped this didn't mark the start of a procession of bodies ending up as spider food and I can promise it doesn't. In fact (SPOILER ALERT -DON'T READ THE NEXT BIT IF YOU DON'T WANT CLUES WHAT HAPPENS IN THE REST OF THE STORY!!!!) there is only one more death in the rest of this story, but I'll leave you to try and guess who that will be. Wow, low body count - I guess it makes up for all the bodies in 'Nameless Man' and 'Butterfly Effect'.

Magnificently, absolutely, with out a doubt a bloody brilliant chapter from the master!!! I never stopped laughing, beginning with the Ginny sneaks into Harry's bed bit -they should have known they couldn't best a marauder - and that all good things come in threes! :) The bug being Rita just made my whole week, mate! And the deja vu disposal of the corpus delecti by Harry and Ginny was a great touch! The whole Rita bit was just perfect and would have made Alfred Hitchcock jealous! Looks like Sirius may have met his match in Fraulein Hagen - I see sparks between those two on the horizon! Nice to see Tonks join the "Dumbledore is a scheming, underhanded old fart" team! If Dumbledore could read Ginny's mind, he'd see bat bogeys in his future! I just hope the wind at Hogwarts if blowing away from the castle and toward the forbidden forest -- can you imagine the stench of acromantula flatulence emanating from them after they finish dining on Skeeter souffle!?! Auf Wiedersehen until the next chapter!! :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

Author's Response: The only thing I can say about this review is that the idea of Acromantular flatulence has just put me off my dinner.

Amazing Brennus! I thoroughly enjoyed the first story in the Thorny Rose series ( I never mind a bit of Ron or Dumbledore bashing in good taste), but now I'm hooked! It's so interesting to see how Harry is evolving. Can't wait to see what you have in store for the rest of the story. Good on you for writing outside the box despite the fixation on cannon personalities and objectives that seems to exist in the world of fanfic. Certainly makes for a read that keeps me on the edge of my seat. And imagine my surprise at seeing 3 chapters up all right around New Year's! My winter break ends in a couple of days, so this has definitely been a great way to end it!

Author's Response: I'm glad you're enjoying it. With approximately three billion Harry Potter fan fiction stories out there (or maybe it just feels like it) I really believe you have to be careful about what you include in a story if you're going to avoid just rehashing the same thing again and again. Sometimes it can be as simple as not including minor personality traits repeatedly. For instance I was reading a story the other day where the author had Tonks saying 'wotcha!' in every other sentence and it made me want to hunt them down and beat them with a kipper. The Soul Bond thing is another example, we've had some great 'tradition' stories including all the elements I'm trying to avoid (Sovran's 'Meaning of One' being the classic of that ilk to me) so what's the point in rehashing it? Am I starting to rant now? Perhaps I should take my medicine and go for a lie down...

Want to piggyback on an earlier reviewer comment here about your evolving writing. Have read most of your stories and do believe that your conscious intention...and the hard work that requires...to keep improving is clearly paying off in this one.

I believe Ginny is one of JFK's most brilliant inspirations...and the one she did the shoddiest job of fully articulating. Thankfully a wing of fanfiction writers have seen the character's potential and have brought out so much of her essence into literary form. [of course, she's equally been a projection target of a slew of self-loathing from some, undoubtedly fueled by the mis-cast film series which marginalized her even further...as if that were even possible]

Your approach to bringing her forth in TTR works quite well in allowing her to blossom.

Thank you

Author's Response: And thank you for that wonderful review. I agree with nearly everything you said about Ginny but would say that what really frustrates me is that JKR occasional taunts us with flashes what a wonderful character she is. I'm thinking of scenes like her and Harry eating Easter Eggs in the library, the Horntail tattoo conversation and Harry's birthday kiss at the start of DH, and what links those fantastic scenes: they were all cut from the films! I really like the early films but as the series progresses and the books they deal with become longer, the editing just becomes awful. How can they have not included Dumbledore confronting the Dursleys in HBP, for instance? As much as I like Bonnie Wright, I see her more in some costume drama than playing Ginny Weasley - there was just no fire to her performance. Never mind, we will just have to continue to celebrate the real Ginny here on SIYE (and laugh at all the Harry/Hermione shippers elsewhere).

Brilliant! I don't know which part made me laugh more - Sirius with his blue silk dressing gown, or the lightbulb moment when I realised that Rita Skeeter was the bug from the previous chapter! :)
and Dumbledore really is a piece of ****, loving the bashing :)

Author's Response: I was really determined not to make Dumbledore as bad as he was in 'Butterfly Effect' but I'm struggling! I obviously have some deep-seated resentment against him that I need to work out.

Great chapter. Love your Ginny and Harry. They are so good together.
Loved the traps that Sirius set for Ginny and Harry. He really is a marauder still at heart.
I am glad Rita is gone early.
Looking forward to more.

Author's Response: More trips and traps to come from Sirius, but at least Ginny is wise to him now. Between FF.Net and this site, I have yet to have one review that isn't happy that Rita is gone. If I'd known that it would have gotten such a good reaction I would have killed her off ages ago!

Poor Remus he's the lost puppy in the store, and tonks is the one he needs to rescue him....as for Rita it was a guess but a good one, and thank you for getting rid of her so soon....as for Ginny playing with Harry, he needs some down time, and Ginny will keep her nickers in place until she is ready....kutgw

Author's Response: Don't worry too much about poor Remus. I'm sure it will all work out in the end.

Excellent, as always. Ginny should know never to underestimate a Marauder, although the reverse also happens to be equally true! I'm picturing ongoing escalation of the traps and the trap-breaking as time goes on.

By the way, I understand Harry and Ginny are thoroughly and justifiably hacked off with Dumbledore, but Harry has apparently forgotten at least one of the things that Aragog said to him (direct quote from COS): "I never even told Hagrid the name of that dread creature, though he asked me many times." That may be the one thing, at least, that they can't hold against the old coot. As for baldly lying about the nature of Harry's relationship with the Dursleys, that's another matter entirely....

Author's Response: Yes, a few people have point out I got that bit wrong. Fortunately, it doesn't have a major effect on anything I had planned, although I've had to change a couple of sentences around. That will teach me to research a bit better.

Great chapter. I like how you dealt with Rita Skeeter. I feel like Harry and Ginny when they did not feel guilty and wondered if they were bad people, at least I know it was just a character and not a real person :). I really enjoy your story, your writing is very good and really draws me in.

Author's Response: I really wouldn't feel too guilty about Rita, it's all for the best, really. And what do you mean she's not a real person? Next you'll be telling me Harry Potter isn't real and Hogwarts doesn't exist. That's just madness!

I love a well written story where Ginny is smart and sassy and Harry gets to live with Sirius! Great job, so happy to see you back posting!

Author's Response: Yes, I can't stand stories where Ginny is portrayed as weak and emotional. I think some authors forget we never get to see the 'true' Ginny until the later books.

Author's Response: I really don't think this Ginny is that far from canon, as a few reviews on FF.Net have suggested. She's most definitely fun to write, anyway.
