Great story my friends and I would play that song on our guitars . Glad to see you back.

Author's Response: The song, of course, inspired the story. It was a lot of fun to write. Thanks for reading--Eric B.

Its good to read your stories again. I havent read anything of yours in a long time, and you were one of the first authors I read, and you always have really fun stories. I thought those rules were Gibbs rules, but wasn't sure. Go me, getting my American tv right! One thing I wasn't a huge fan of was the present-tense writing voice: personally I prefer your (and everyone else's) writing when its in 3rd person past.

Author's Response: I'm glad you enjoyed the story. The first person style hasn't been that popular because I switch character perspectives too often. Rule Fifty-one "Sometimes you're wrong." Yes, those are Gibb's rules from the television series. I acknowledged him in my author's notes. It was fun including them with this. Thanks for reading--Eric B.

Although I still haven't found time to read your long stories to get the full background for your universe, the shorter ones like this are great fun to dip into. and seem to work well regardless.

Author's Response: One of the small problems with writing so many stories is how people have to deal with references between them. My favorite longer story is still "Nelly Bly" because it was so off the wall (and Spenser got to kiss Luna--my wife swats me). I never write unless I anticipate having great fun in the process. Thank you for reading--Eric B.

*giggles* I read this last night...and I've been listening to Peter, Paul, and Mary songs ever since. They are just too addicting.

Liked the rules too, I can just see Gibbs' face if he were to learn of this.

Author's Response: I always write at those times when I think we're going to have the most fun. Mr. Mark Harmon has been a great favorite of mine since the days of his "240-Robert" series. I have a great...last memory with my grandmother who fell in love with him when we watched his "Stealing Home" with Jodie Foster t a local theater. I've always tried to produce stories that those people I admire might enjoy. Mr. Harmon will never take the time to read any of mine, but I would appreciate any of you...all of you doing so. Rule Seventeen (draft): "You are not wrong if you do it for the right reasons." I'm glad that you enjoyed the story. Thanks--Eric B.

Great story - loved the NCIS references. Have to say I could only listen to a few seconds of Peter, Paul, and Mary - it was at least enough to give me the idea of the song.

Author's Response: The NCIS references were almost an afterthought. I looked at the story, and I decided that the references would be perfect with Mr. Waite's passing. I'm hoping that everyone listens to the Peter, Paul, and Mary "Marvelous Toy" song. I'm especially hoping that everyone remembers the incredible veteran actor and wonderful gentleman--Ralph Waite.. "Good night Daddy" (John Walton Sr.--Jackson Gibbs). Mischief managed sir!

Magnificent tickle to my funnybone as usual, mate - Ernest would be proud! Incidently, I didn't have to go to the website to listen to the song...I own the PPM albumn it's on! Banjo!?!

Author's Response: I've become quite the reader of Mr. Hemingway. Spenser spells it wit an extra "M" to ensure readers that they are not related. I hope that "Papa" may be getting a laugh or two out of my stories from up there. Reading his, you can tell that the genleman absolutely has a dry wit about him. I'm thrilled that you found the group's song. My family is listening to it as I type this. My son, the critic, thinks I should have made my story more descriptive of the "toy". I just hate spoilers, and I have the feeling that my readers have a bit of imagination. Thanks for reading--Eric B.

What a great story! I recognized the song. We usually hear The Marvelous Toy at Christmas, but it isn't a Christmas song is it? I listened to it again on You Tube. It was fun and so is your story. I'm not sure when it was set though. I know you only do alternative universe.

Author's Response: I'm glad you enjoyed it so much. My friends suggested a better reference about the song in the story summary, but I didn't want it to be a straight song-fic, and I didn't want too many spoilers. I did add an author's note about YouTube. I do write Alternative Universe. This story is more-or-less set some time during my other work "The Best of Times". Yes, it was a fun story to write. Thank you for reading--Eric B.

A Spenser story after long time. very welcome.
for a Muggle Technology Challenge, story without mobile phone is welcome. Unfortunately I think it was not at same level as other spenser stories. Either I missed the joke or it wasn't that funny...I seriously got confused reading this story.

Author's Response: I'm afraid that I've shown Spenser's old age with this story. I've added a quick author's note referring people to Youtube and a great little song by Peter, Paul, and Mary called "The Marvelous Toy" (1969). This story is based on that. If you know the song, or take a minute to listen, it will make a bit more sense. Thanks for reading--Eric B.

Seems a while since we got a dose of Spenser's universe. Very welcome.

Author's Response: Poor Spenser is back at college writing term papers. If I can find the money, I'll be starting my Masters soon. Harry/Giiny writing is still my favorite. JKR must be into the butter beer trying to break them up. Thanks for reading--Eric B.
