It' always nice to get a clue how the world looks from Mrs. Grangers point of view.
The property of the Half Blood Prince, well, I must admit that I've completely, utterly forgotten about the role that book in this story, not even the more than obvious headline made me suspicious, even if the headline seemed to be familiar.

The answer to my question from my former review, two and a half years ago (wow, two and a half year already...really?), is a bit more clear now. There were clues that Ginny and Harry talked about the Horcuxes, however, not as detailed as they're explaining it to Dumbledore. This probably was the reason for my confusion.

I've also found another reason why I didn't particularly like Zabini. It certainly has something to do with the fact that he used Ginny and Harry to improve his chances to get into professional Quidditch, and in this way he pushed the two of them into this direction, too. I must admit, at the beginning, after DH, I was happy for Ginny, that her dream to play for the Harpies had been fulfilled. However, it changed quite quickly after I read a couple of post-DH fanfiction stories. I couldn't stand to see her without a private life, somewhere between the gossip columns and the front page of the Daily Prophet, or as the Centrefold of the Play Wizard, as escort girl for the Harpies sponsors, being caged in the Harpies campus, her life controlled by the press and the club bosses. It was quite disillusioning. That’s not the Ginny I know and like. I was so pissed off, I almost stopped reading fanfiction at this time. Rant's over, sorry for that.

Author's Response:

Ah right -- the discussion of Horcruxes is certainly downplayed relative to the canon narrative in Deathly Hallows, but it is nonetheless there. H&G do provide Dumbledore with fairly full disclosure, although nobody has quite the depth of understanding that Dumbledore and Harry (and probably Snape) had in DH. In this AU, Harry and Ginny will understand the Horcruxes differently, and more personally, and this will prove adequate. Dumbledore's incomplete knowledge, however, may prove problematic.

Good point about Zabini. In truth, after Ginny's tryout during TPC, it was likely inevitable that she would be following the Harpies trajectory, but the fact that Harry became (unexpectedly) pulled back into a sporting world he had largely given up on is a critical (and perhaps not positive) plot element in Trix. There is subtle foreboding to this effect already written, though there is more to come. As to the extent to which Quidditch perturbs Ginny's life, I suppose other fanfics have used seedy aspects of professional sports to explain why such a long time passed between the end of the war and the birth of James Sirius. I have no intention of letting her be tainted by the grimy underside of sports, however one of your concerns in the above review does become a key factor in Trix. And yes, it will become unpleasant, however you will see that a bit of short term pain produces a better accommodation later. And that is perhaps all I should hint in that respect :)

Its good to read that Mione finally gets her research project. I'm relieved that she gets the chance to turn to the light side.

On the other hand, I was mildly surprised about Harry telling Dumbledore all the details about the horcruxes (supposed objects, number of horcruxes, ..). Maybe I have missed something, How he knew all that stuff? Did he read HBP?

Author's Response:

Ah yes -- this information has unraveled in the course of their research into the connection between Harry's and Voldemort's magical auras, and Ginny's ability to insulate Harry from that connection.

Ginny's horcrux-induced vision in chapter 8 is the first time that either of them begins to glimpse the number and nature of horcruxes (they appear to her as distortions to the primary Harry/Voldemort connection, with the interpretation being that all horcruxes are subtly aware of each other).

The real heavy duty analysis is in Chapter 10, though. Tremelda helps Harry to see the horcruxes, and Salvatore is the first one to actually refer to them by the term 'horcrux'.

As an authour I wonder if I somehow undersold or underpresented chapter 10 -- it's one of the shorter chapters in the book, and gets fewer reader hits than most of the other chapters, yet reveals some of the deepest, darkest secrets in the story. Perhaps I should add a bit of foreshadowing prior to the chapter, or a summary statement at some point to reinforce the actions and discovery. No point in being sly and subtle if readers miss key insight.

Anyway, thank you very much for reading and commenting!

Author's Response: Thank you for the stars, Aragorn! Glad that you enjoyed Hermione's first big step back toward relevance and redemption. I wasn't certain if Matt had intended for her to eventually come around, but she too has the ingredients for being an interesting character, although I never found her warm and human enough to truly be one of the top 2 or 3 personalities in the story.

Wow! Cool way to bring Granger into the action! Can't wait to read ahead and see how this works out!

Author's Response: Thanks Dann! Yes, there are definitely some plot items for which there's no better mover/shaker than Hermione. It's her turn to start growing up.

Wow! Have to admit, that's one book I never expected to see mentioned in this one!

Author's Response: Thanks for the review ebdenis! The HBP allusion just seemed all too useful to resist passing up!

My life has been a bit hectic these las weeks and yesterday I was without internet for the whole day. I loved this chapter as I am loving this story more and more. I am really cusrious about what they will do about the Horcrux in Harry and I hope Dumbledore can help. Hermione finally coming to her senses is a good thing. I hope Snape won't put her in danger.

Author's Response: Good to hear from you again LG! Sorry to hear that life has been getting in the way of some of the most important things :O)

Great that you're enjoying the little web that's being spun here. Regarding Harry's horcrux, there are already a few hints buried in earlier chapters about how they might solve the problem. To suitably confuse the issue, I will offer this distracting hint: before the end, that horcrux will actually prove 'useful'.

A couple of other hints relevant to your comments:

- Dumbledore is indeed helpful, but not necessarily in ways one might expect
- Danger is no stranger to Hermione in the next five chapters, but it all makes her stronger

Thanks for the review!

I get the impression that Hermione's "other" line of research is going to turn out to be very useful, just not in the way that she thinks. I have a funny feeling that it will end up being instrumental in removing the horcrux from Harry.

Author's Response: And I get the impression that you readers are way too astute!

Your impressions are very sharp, but I am very relieved to say that you are not completely correct :)

An interesting take on the Harry Potter universe. I hate it when the next chapter is there but not validated.

Author's Response: Thanks Dad!

My heartfelt empathy! I've posted a 98% refined draft of chapter 14 at: http://ghlfiction.tumblr.com/ if you're curious.

Didn't you mention that Hermione would get her head out of her arse soon? I have begun to hate her.

Author's Response: I"m going to beg of your patience (sweet pretty please!!) for a few more chapters, Sylvelle. Hermione still has one monumentally stupid mistake to make (fortunately it's one that produces an important unexpected lesson that gets the protagonists past a critical barrier). In the meantime, Hermione will do yeoman's (yeowoman's) work on the portkey project. Anyway, thanks for the review!

Afraid of the same. Dumbldore going to do exactly what Harry and Ginny didn't want him to - rush things and receive some damage. Probably they should have been more insistent in the meeting with him. It was obvious he was going to do something rushed without really thinking things over. Anyway, very interesting chapter!

Author's Response: Ach -- more long distance legilimency! Yes, I admit I did telegraph this a bit though :)

Anyway, I believe you're guessing that a blackened hand is the least of our worries... I will neither confirm nor deny.

Thanks for the review, aimless!

Well THAT last part was unexpected! I wonder if old Grumble-roar will come back with black hand this time. Some people never learn, I suppose.

Author's Response: Hah! I'm gratified that I succeeded in at least sneaking one twist up on you, Lokken, because apart from that it appears that you're doing long-distance legilimency on me!

Thank you very much for the review!

Hello, first off, can I just say how happy I am that someone is continuing this universe. While it's not the same as if Matt started writing again, I do like where you're taking the story. How everything is the same except how Harry and Ginny react to everything, or how some things have changed as a result of them. It's probably my favorite sort of AU, where one thing is changed and it's possible to see the resulting waves radiate that from the single event. Like how Hermione is the one to 'find' the Half Blood Prince's book instead of Harry. I'm really wondering who left it for her. Pretty sure it's the same person Harry sensed after Ginny was explaining everything to Hermione, but don't know who he sensed, so...*shrugs* Mystery for solving later. Of course she tries to read the original recipe instead of realizing it's the edited version she needs, but honestly I'm just glad she's starting to enter the main storyline. Even if it's a very vague connection.

Surprisingly I'm quite liking your Hermione. Well..maybe that's putting it too strongly. I can understand why she's doing what she's doing. I may not agree with it, but that's because I know what's really going on. If everything were from her perspective, and we only knew what she knew, We'd probably agree at least somewhat. She seems to be in the mindset of sort of preparing for the worst, and trying to hope for the best, but she's stuck in her way of thinking and so she can't.

A couple things I noticed, I know I would want them pointed out to me if someone spotted something wrong in my work.

When Ginny is talking to Hermione about researching 'something', and explaining why Snape didn't work out. "I thank that's a separate issue."

Hermione's point of view, she's thinking about Ron and how her Saturdays are spent researching. "Yes, it had been fun to wok together with Ron..." It's the second sentence in the second, large paragraph. Also, starting a little bit into the next paragraph, everything is in italics until the end.

All in all, I'm very interested in where this goes, particularly in who gave Hermione the book, and I can't wait for the next chapter.

Author's Response: Wow -- what a morning for astute and thought-provoking reviews! Thank you PhantomPhoenix!

I think it's great that you understand Hermione for what I intended her: she remains as book-smart and well-intentioned as ever, but Harry's and Ginny's remarkable transformations occurred outside of her peripheral vision and she's never quite been able to catch up with the dramatic paradigm shift. To me, Hermione and Ron both epitomize the point that Matt made that different people grow up at different times. There are more bumps in her road, but she's too tenacious to count out.

Thank you very much for pointing out the glitches -- I'm always grateful to hear about them sooner rather than later!
