Fascinating conversation between Harry and Severus.

Author's Response: The nicest I've ever been to Snape in one of my stories!

Very interessting conversation between Harry and Snape. I hope to see you go past the cliches that are his hatred of James, and by extension, Harry, his unrequited love of Lily, and his dual work with Dumbledore and Voldemort. Since you've set up what appears to be an ongoing relationship between the two of them, it will be fun to see where you take them. The irony of this, of course, is that if Snape could move beyond his long-held hatred, he'd learn that he and Harry had very similar, horrible childhoods and would perhaps find someone who would see him as something more than a tool, as DD and LV do. - The Seeker

Author's Response: Canon Snape, while being loyal and very brave, is basically a very mean-spirited, nasty person. I don't claim this version to be all sweetness and light, either. He's basically been manoeuvred into helping Harry, but does have the sense to recognise that his hated foes son might be the best hope of defeating Voldemort. Snape might be a git, but he's not stupid.

Nice chapter but not as much juicier as the previous ones.

Author's Response: Hey, I can't dish out the juice in every chapter! I'm not a juice machine, you know...

Sorry, Thought I had reviewed this chapter, but apparently not. Anyway, excellent, I think the title says exactly what the Harry, Severus relationship is like. An alliance which Harry really needs more of. I do enjoy the Hufflepuff trio, they are cute. Perhaps Michelle would like info on hair care, hey who knows?
Looking for to the validation of the next chapter. Love your Harry.
Tricia

Author's Response: The Hufflepuff trio? There are four of them (although one of them is very small so perhaps you missed her). Michelle's probably after Harry's magically-heated hair rollers. If only he'd had them in canon!

Another fabulous chapter.
Just trying to get my head around Harry and Snape 'friendly'.......sorry can't see that. Maybe, a sort of mutual acceptance of each other towards an ending.
Anyway, looking forward to the next chapter.

Author's Response: Oh, 'friendly' definitely isn't the word for Harry and Snape's relationship in this story. Think of it as a working relationship and nothing else.

Thanks for posting! Your stories always cheer me up (I needed it this week too). I look forward to more chapters.

Author's Response: Then we shall wallow in misery together. Cheerful soul, aren't I?

Ah, so is Michelle the one with the diary now? You certainly hate old Dumby.

I found this chapter definitely lacking three-way action with the girls :P It was otherwise very illuminating so I still enjoyed reading it.

Author's Response: Nope, Michelle hasn't been given the diary, that's still safely tucked up in Dumbledore's office. No, Michelle will be providing a bit of illumination on another aspect of the story people having been questioning me about. Three-way action? The archivists would beat me to a pulp for even hinting such a thing!

Author's Response: Oh, these stories are definitely a form of therapy for me. Whether they help at all is another matter...

Great Godric Gryffindor's galloping gargoyles! The Hans Holbein of highly hillarious hyperbole has favored us with another batch of literary brilliance! Man, those validators took more time with this chapter than Ron Weasley takes to eat his fill at a Hogwarts feast! The mere suggestion of a possible love scene between Crabbe and Goyle could scar me for life! At least you didn't suggest a threesome with Millicent Bulstrode! I see Harry hasn't lost his disdain for Dumbledore in this one, either! And Ron is still a prick as well! Wonder if the Sorting Hat put Ginny in Slytherin because it knew Harry would be in there and need her help? HMMMMMM. The game appears to be really afoot now that Ginny and Snape are apparently Harry's allies! Incidently, I checked with Scotland Yard and several people have reported seeing a brain streaking naked around Saulisbury Cathedral! Could that be yours?! :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

Author's Response: You're going to run out of these extravagant openings one day, you know! A Crabbe/Goyle/Bulstrode threesome? *shudder* Just remember, you were the one that brought that idea up, not me! Of course, now you're raised the idea I'll be incorporating it into the next chapter, along with extensive notes saying it's all your fault. Ah, no, that wasn't my brain streaking around Salisbury Cathedral. After my threats in the last story I've been officially banned from the place and the Bishop is now hunting for me with a broken bottle and a dozen angry choir boys. As my local pub backs onto the cathedral close it's making life difficult, I can tell you!

Just don't make them buddy buddy. Snape and Harry would never have that kind of relationship. I would not expect Ginny to open up that fast about the Chamber especially in the middle of the hall where anyone can over hear it. The best part was the begin of the chapter with Harry and Bathy.

Thanks for sharing.

Author's Response: Oh, trust me, Snape and Harry will definitely not be 'buddy-buddy' in this story! as the title of the chapter suggests, he will be an uneasy working arrangement, and one that will be strained to its limits before long. Ginny was never taken to the Chamber; the diary was taken off her too early for that, or if she was she doesn't remember it. The limit to her possession was the killing of Hagrid's chickens, so she views the incident as a minor annoyance, nothing more.

Really enjoying the story!!

Author's Response: Damn, why does my brain keep getting invited to better parties than I do? Gah!

Another great chapter! I enjoyed the scene with Harry and Ginny. It sounds like despite her better judgement she and Harry are starting to develop a relationship, even if it might just be as allies, for now. The scene with the Hufflepuff girls was great, too. It shows a bit of canon Harry's nobility and "saving people thing" live on in your Harry, even if this one is much more pragmatic and willing to act against his enemies. Finally, the scene with Snape was very well done. He's still bitter and hates Harry, but is willing to listen to him and recognize that the younger wizard may be right about Dumbledore. Can't wait for the next chapter to see what happens next!

Author's Response: Thanks! Michelle and the girls are primarily there to show Harry's softer side. Despite using them slightly to gain information back in chapter 2, he's demonstrating his genuine affection and protectiveness now. They were kind and helped him before, so he'll protect them now. Qualities any Hufflepuff would appreciate! Snape definitely despises Harry, but he's enough of a pragmatist to realise he's their best chance of getting rid of Voldemort.

This chapter brightened my day! I'm taking perverse pleasure in how well you're spooning out the backstory and the hints that we need... tantalizing us, keeping us engaged in the story, making us want more.

Very well done!

And my congratulations for having no noticeable typos in this chapter. You and Arnel hit your stride in this one.

Author's Response: I was a bit worried about doing the flashback scenes, but I was determined not to write this one in the same way that I did 'Butterfly Effect', so this seemed the best way to tell Harry's backstory without spending loads of chapters covering his training , etc. As a writing tool I think it's worked nicely.

Another fabulous chapter - bowing before you, oh great one!

I have a bit of a hard time with the fact that the Weasleys just all suddenly disowned Ginny when she was sorted into Slytherin. I know in most stories the parents are often portrayed as somewhat simple and naive (which also bugs me). They raised 7 pretty decent people, so they can't be all that stupid. Plus , they have always promoted tolerance and an open mind...but anyway. For YOUR storyline it has to work, of course...just saying.

I am just really wondering now WHY Ginny was really sorted into Slytherin. It's got to be more than a mischievous streak she needed to survive with 6 older brothers, right? And sorting was before the diary incident, so the traditional "Voldemort left something in her mind" wouldn't apply either. Hmmmm. I guess I need to patiently wait for the story to unfold.

THANK YOU for sharing your amazing talent with us!

Author's Response: You have to bear in mind we're getting a description of the Weasleys from Ginevra's point of view. She's pretty bitter about the way she'd been treated and is definitely exaggerating a bit. I have a scene later were we'll meet the entire family and you'll see that in terms of behaviour they're a pretty mixed bag. Quite a few people have questioned Ginevra's Sorting into Slytherin, which does surprise me a bit. The hat nearly put Harry into that house in canon, so why not her? In the books she's clearly an ambitious girl, you don't become a high-level sportswoman without a bit of ambition, after all. She's also a bit sneaky and has a temper. Just imagine that she didn't know you could ask that hat to place you in the House of your choice, and she's pretty much there, I think.

The story as a whole is definitely shaping up as a classic. Plot-line is the freshest I've seen this year, certainly!

I'm a little surprised that you chose to move things along so quickly with Snape. On one hand, I can see Snape rattled by the cumulative effect of Harry's repeated bombshells, but instinctively I would still have expected him to try to hold out a bit longer; to avoid admitting or divulging quite so much. Of course, I wasn't in the office with those green eyes bearing down on me. But then again, perhaps that part of the issue -- the conversation with Snape reads a bit like a telephone transcript. Albeit a very gripping one, but we don't see much of the intimidating body language that Harry seems to have mastered and applied as an adjunct to his more physical scenes. A bit more of that and I think the whole process of Snape-breaking could have unraveled as an intensely gripping drama.

I was initially asking myself similar questions about how Ginny would have come to admit the bit about the diary so quickly, but I think your implied background is fine: the diary affair was unpleasant, but nowhere near as mortifying an experience for her as in CoS.

Anyway, great chapter! I believe, however, that you have one 'severally' in your text that should be a 'severely'.

Author's Response: The whole Snape/Harry relationship is very different to in canon already. Before Harry stepped foot in Hogwarts he already proved he is nothing like his father and Snape has hinted that he was a little frustrated at Dumbledore's leadership. Harry's much publicised capture of Lucius Malfoy probably shook Severus a bit, too. On a practical level, with this story running to only 17 chapters I didn't want to spend too much time with the two characters trading insults and annoying each other, besides, hasn't that been done to death? No, Harry 's going to have a hard time with other teachers than Snape. As for Ginny, you are quite right. The diary incident to her here was a minor annoyance that came on top of all her other problems. She probably viewed the diary in a similar way to all those cursed objects that Arthur deals with at work. Thanks for the correction, I'll amend it immediately.

Another great chapter. I love reading your story and look forward the next chapter. Hope you have a better week next week.

Author's Response: The next chapter is just awaiting validation as we speak. Thanks for the sympathetic words. actually, thinks are looking up already; they've started stocking the Halloween sweets in my local supermarket. Woohoo!

Progressing beautifully! Slowly but surely Harry is gathering his allies. I hope things get better for you mr Brennus can't have a depressed writer unless it contributes to a better story! So you may have to suffer for your art but not too much.

Author's Response: Thanks for the kind words. I am a bit more cheerful today. After all, its Saturday, I have a nice bottle of South African Merlot to drink later, some strange German cheese I've never heard of to eat, and the latest episode of Dr Who to watch this evening. Who could be depressed when you have that to look forward to?
