So far, it seems alright. We'll have to see. Convince me some more. Anxiously awaiting the next chapter.

Author's Response: I'm glad this chapter didn't prove to be as awful as many were predicting and you are willing to read more to be convinced. I will try to update as soon as real-life allows me. Thanks for commenting!

Well, Harry had the first day from hell. Every thing he tried, turned pear shaped. Lucky, he still has Ginny on his side (as well as a couple of others).

Looking forward to the next chapter.

Author's Response: I guess you are right about Harry's first day, but thanks to Lockhart it turned out better than it could have! Thanks for the stars and review!

I had forgotten how wonderfully you write Professor Lockhart. The snake scene is just as funny and realistic as the pixie incident in CoS. It's so easy to picture Lockhart letting the snake out and then being completely hopeless at ever getting it back in its cage while his class cowers as far away from him as possible. Then Harry saves the day and sets all tongues wagging positively, rather than the negative whisperings from earlier in the day. I think that's a good thing.

The last flashback and accompanying musings are a bit sad. Again, you have found the essence of the character and are masterfully painting how conflicted a man Severus Snape truly is. Well done.

Author's Response: Thanks for taking the time to reread this and comment, Arnel. I'm glad you still enjoyed the finished chapter. I had a lot of fun writing the Lockhart scene. And poor Snape, he really deserves a fair shake; at least I think so. Thanks for reading and commenting!!

Malfoy is still doing his best to cause trouble then. Loved Lockhart's lesson, and it certainly worked out well for Harry. Great opportunity here for Colin to get close to his idol, and good for Harry to gain a friend in another house. Its going to be interesting to see school life from the point of view a year younger than usual, and to find out how Harry and Ginny settle into their respective houses; also if Harry will progress magically as he finds his place in Slytherin.

Author's Response: It wouldn't be the same if Malfoy wasn't up to his usual tricks. I think it will be interesting to see things from the perspective of a different year and different friends. As for Colin, he definitely does not give up easily. Thanks for commenting!

oh my is snape warming his icy heart....no i dont think so....as for harry and ginny...i thnk the hat screwed up and that they eneded to be together in order to have the hat do it properly...albus is plying with fire...so is snape for that matter......mc.g should have a word with albus about what she sees....kutgw

Author's Response: Hmm, I'm not certain what you mean that they needed to be together in order for the hat to Sort them properly. It's a fairly intelligent hat, I think it knew exactly what it was doing and why. Who is to say that Albus is behind the Sorting? McGonagall said he no say in the hat's decision. Only time will tell. Thanks for commenting!

I can understand Harry, I was at least as desperate as he was after the Sorting. However, I'm surprised that Harry has already bought his Slytherin school robes beforehand.
It's not a good start in new school year for Harry. Snape lectures him, although Malfoy has attacked him. It's certainly not helpful for Harry's standing in Slytherin house that Malfoy comes through with his spitefulness without punishment.
If Snape is a little bit sympathetic, he would give Ginny the same detention dates as Harry. Harry will need Ginny's support urgently. I've got the feeling that his magical abilities (still?) are a bit weak, at least compared with Ginny. After the experiences of his first day, he will probably not have much trust in his professors. Everywhere where he sought help, he was more or less rebuffed...

Author's Response: Harry did not bring his Slytherin robes, the school robes he had magically changed when he was Sorted into Slytherin. Luna mentions this in the previous chapter, so he had no choice, as that is all he has to wear. Don't you think it was in Snape's character to lecture and punish Harry and let Malfoy go? We can't have Snape make a complete turn-around yet! Malfoy would become suspicious. Thanks for reading and commenting!

Interesting chapter. I am glad that Severus is being somewhat decent to Harry and that he has a friend in each of the other houses. Looking forward to the next chapter.

Author's Response: Is interesting a good thing or bad thing? I suspect this chapter is not how readers expected things to go, so I hope interesting means that's a good thing. We can't have Snape be completely nice, he still has to get a few jibes in here and there. Thanks for reading and commenting!

Oh... my dear, Mistress_Lrigtar... I hate and love this chapter. I hate it simply because its shorter than the previous chapters and love it simply because its fantastic. You have surpassed my expectations. I can already start to see where you might be heading with this story and the only thing I can say is... "GO ON. PLEASE CONTINUE!"

I can honestly say that my heart broke for Harry. The poor kid has had a harsh life and to be thrown into this new world from one day to another all the while trying to keep up and trying to relearn in a way how the world works. The poor boy has so much to still learn and even with all of that he is receiving so much unnecessary grief from his fellow students. He has handled things better than I think I would but part of me thinks it is probably due to Ginevra Potter. Bless her... she is what he needs right now and without her I am sure he would probably not be as calm as he is.

I thank you because you have decided to make this story your own. Instead of rehashing canon and adding a few things here and there you have decided to write a whole new story. The scene with Lockhart and the snake could not have gone better if I tried. At least people will now start to realize that having the gift of parseltongue does not necessarily mean it is a bad thing.

I have noticed that Harry is in a way still the same Harry from canon. He has a temper (for good reason) and it prevents him from thinking things thoroughly. If we are going to have a Slytherin Harry then I only hope that with time we might see more of his Slytherin traits. It is his first day so the poor boy is probably overwhelmed but I hope with time he will control his temper and think things through.

I believe now he has more motivation to learn Occlumency. As Snape pointed out, it is essential for him to guard his secrets. I will be honest here... I am not sure how I feel about the flashbacks with Lily and Snape. I know why you did it but I hope its not something we will see again and again. We know that ends badly for Snape and I fear if he focuses too much on that it might lead him to treat Harry as he did in canon.

The main focus I believe should be Harry and Ginny. She is the key really. She will be his anchor and he will be hers. Thank you for writing this story. It is honestly the only story I daily check up on for updates. I only hope you can keep updating with little to no problems at all. Take care.

Author's Response: MisterBlack, thank you very much. I wasn't sure how this chapter would be perceived after the previous posting. So it is very nice to hear I have surpassed at least your expectations!

I surmise that Harry will exhibit more of his Slytherin traits as he becomes acclimated with his surroundings, not to mention as a means of survival! I am sure that they will come in handy for him in the future to avoid further incidents with those in his House (and perhaps others) who are not happy with him. Also, as you stated, already having Ginny as an established confidant and friend will go a long way to help him. We already know from canon that she tended to have a calming effect on him. ;)

As for the flashbacks with Snape, they are important to the story and to fleshing out his character in a different light this go around. We know it doesn't end well for him in regards to Lily, but we also know that things do end well for Harry and Ginny and that still didn't stop readers complaining about what I did to them in the last chapter! So, while we know poor Severus does not achieve his heart's desire, there will be more scenes with Lily and others because he deserves to have his side of the story told. Trust me that the main focus is Harry and Ginny, as I really try to give readers a story I would want to read, too.

Thank you very much for reading and taking the time to comment.
