Interesting chapter.

One minor note of curiosity (though not a question per se) relates to Hermione's two brief cameos in this chapter. One sees her completely outside of a golden-trio interaction and one finds her... aloof. Not in a shy or awkward way, but rather in the manner of someone occupied by responsibilities or interests more advanced than the more common students. Very plausible of course, and perhaps Harry (or even Ron) display some of that, but I think it's the first such characterisation I've encountered.

The second point of curiosity relates to the cutting. You've made it at least somewhat clear that this has a worrisome magical component to it, which is good because in general Anna doesn't quite fit the profile of a psychological cutter. The latter are frequently people who, at some level or another, wish they were receiving more attention whereas, in this chapter you artfully convey that Anna is doing her best to *avoid* attracting attention. Interestingly, I recently had professional reasons to begin contemplating an explanation for cutting behavior as a vestigial conditioning response comparable to animals that engage in compulsive grooming. I suspect, however, that none of that has anything to do with where you're going with the story :)

Author's Response: Thank you so much for the review! Yes, Hermione is definitely busy with far more responsibilities than the average student. Her class load alone is overwhelming. I also see Hermione as being more mature in some ways than most of her classmates. She is one of the oldest students in her year, but more than that she is generally a very serious young lady. She thinks more deeply than many other students and is still trying to assimilate wizard culture with the muggle culture of her birth. As to cutting, you have made me very curious about your profession! However, your suspicion is correct. In this story Anna's frequent cutting is solely for magical purposes.

Another entertaining chapter! Especially enjoyed the focus on Ginny -- you never see much written about how she dealt with her 2nd year! Seems there is something about Miss Henry we don't know yet! :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

Author's Response: Thank you so much for the review! I really enjoyed writing this chapter. Ginny is such a great character!

Anna has a new scar on her hand. Obviously she performs her blood magic rituals regularly.
Snape should be removed from Hogwarts for the mental rape of students because that's exactly what he's doing by using Ligilimens. But I fear that he'll be excused because of the Greater Good, as this always is an ingenious excuse for all kinds of injustices.
It was somehow predictable, that Ginny's performance after her disastrous first year wasn't a topic of the faculty meeting.

Many thanks for another great chapter!

Author's Response: Thank you so much for reviewing! Yes, Anna is being very diligent in following her grandmother's teachings. As for Severus, I'm afraid Albus has always been rather lenient with the professors of Hogwarts in general. While the headmaster himself would hopefully not use Legilimency on a student unless it was a life or death situation, I can see him overlooking this behavior from his potions master.

The bonding between Anna and her roommates was lovely. How is Ginny in their dorm? She is a year younger and should be in another dorm. I'm glad she is there for Anna, but it is a bit curious. I can totally imagine Snape snooping on his students for no reason other than they are good in his class. Remus seems to be pleased with Anna and Neville's progress. I wonder if Anna will open up to the others at all - it doesn't seem like she's ever really had friends her own age.

Author's Response: Thank you for the review! I have always been under the impression that the Gryffindor girls dorm rooms are connected so that a second year student could visit with the third year students in their room rather easily. Regardless, Ginny is a second year student and the other girls are all in third year. I'm glad you enjoyed the bit about Severus. I can imagine he would be tempted to look into the minds of certain students occasionally. Anna is definitely a novice at having friends due to her somewhat isolated childhood. Having Neville as a friend and now becoming friends with the girls is so good for her.

While the dress-up scene isn't anything we'd find in canon, it's completely believable because it's still something girls this age would want to do. I'm glad Ginny and Anna had such fun and that when Lavender and Parvati became involved, Hermione joined in too. All the girls need such a fun evening to bond and become better friends.

GRR! Albus Dumbledore is doing what he does best: meddle where he shouldn't while using Snape to do his dirty work! On the other side of the coin, it's nice that McGonagall and Lupin are genuinely interested in the well-being of their students and have no agendas to fulfil. Well done.

Author's Response: Thank you! I had fun writing the dress up scene. It seemed like a good way to get the girls together and allow for a bit of friendly bonding. JKR gave us wonderfully complex characters in Albus and Severus. They both tend to cross and blur lines repeatedly. I can easily imagine Minerva and Remus being friends, and they are certainly excellent teachers.
