Reviews For A Proper Epilogue

Interesting back story to Florian Fortescue! I did a bit of scouting to see what canonical explanation for the oddly detailed yet negligent way he was handled in the books and discovered that he was indeed being groomed for a key role in DH, but the plot wandered elsewhere. Your rehabilitation of his story is more satisfying.

I very much enjoyed key aspects of the Harry/Ginny 'equilibration' in this chapter. It is in segments like these that you are delivering on your 'proper epilogue' mandate. Good job!

I have a few nits and a couple of pickies that I will share in a PM. If they don't appear shortly, then blame the messenger :)

Wow! The fact that you are once again making me feel truly sorry for Pansy is amazing. Wonderful chapter! Looking forward to reading what will happen next.

Author's Response: Well, it is winding down quickly. In fact, I just postd the final chapter, though it has yet to be validated.

So much love for the Molly and Arthur trying to finally draw a line to protect Harry from being used again. At least someone sees it. Minerva used to try to be the voice of reason to protect Harry, but maybe being Headmistress allows her to see some things that the others can't.

I've also seen a side of Slughorn that I didn't quite expect. It's certainly not shocking, but my mental Slughorn is more the Jim Broadbent version than book version. So it's unexpected to see him quite so sharp as he is here, but it's all very interesting.

And who would have thought that Pansy would become such a sympathetic character?

Author's Response: Thank you! While I enjoy stories in which Molly is overprotective of Ginny in a truly irritating and occasionally disgusting manner, that is not how I imagine the Weasley matriarch at all. She is protective. She is fiercely loyal. She loves with incredible depth. Yes, it gets to be a bit much at times, but not often. At least MY Molly doesn't! LOL! If she is protective of Ginny, she will be protective of Ginny's husband. Of course, Arthur is a sharp father who rules the roost with a velet glove, choosing his battles carefully and not stressing out over the unimportant stuff. In this chapter, both see that the demands and expectations placed upon Harry are getting out of control. I hate being taken for granted in real life, and think Harry would feel the same way ... as would the people who love him! As for Slughorn, I understand the temptation to fasten onto the Jim Broadbent interpretation of the character. He's quite fun and funny! However, as I read the book version of Slughorn, I get creeped out!

Follow up on prior review! I had to say I agree with you about the movies! While they were good and I own them all as well as the books, I believe the biggest problem with the movies was the script writing of Steve Kloves! It was especially lacking or poor in HBP and DH2! In HBP, the attack on the burrow at Christmas was a total fabrication! He also ignored the fact that DH the book made it clear that Greyback wasn't allowed to carry a wand! Worse, the first snog scene between Harry and Ginny was a disgrace! It was in the wrong place and way too timid! We saw more passion and a longer snog between Harry and Cho in OOTP! In DH2, Kloves completely ignored the importance of "a power he knows not"! Had he shown Harry thinking about his kiss with Ginny at the burrow in part 1 right before Riddle hit him with the killing curse in the forest, it would have made it quite clear what that "power" was! Then he completely fabricated how the final battle ended! Good thing JKR allowed fanfic writers alot of latitude in stories like this!

Author's Response: I think we must have been separated at birth. I loved the movies, but only because I knew the book canon so well. As a result, I could overlook a lot of otherwise egregious screenplay writing! It was doubtlessly a Herculean task, but sheesh!!! How did Kloves miss the power Voldemort knows not ... The most powerful magic in the world ... The thing Harry had in excess supply despite being deprived of it while being raised by the loveless Dursley's????? But miss it, he did! As a result, Ginny got benched and Harry had not a single sunlit day in those travesties of film making, HBP and DH2.

I would have thought that if Malcolm Parkinson is the number one Wizard to be caught, then his wife would have been under observation.

Author's Response: Quite possibly so. Had I taken the interrogations as worthy of interest, Pansy would have told the truth ... That to her knowledge, her mother had never been present for any of the meetings. Still, if they had adequate staffing, they would have kept all relatives of all Death Eaters under observation. I guess it shows my Libertarian bent that I never considered the idea of placing Mrs. Parkinson's under observation. The more I think about it, the worse the plot hole seems. Good catch!

The plot thickeneth! Can't help but wonder if Mrs. Parkinson was involved in the attack! Odd to see Pansy reduced to waiting tables but alittle humility never hurts! I think you have an interesting angle on the elderwand so I look forward to seeing where you go with this! JKR did leave the elderwand's fate unknown at the end of DH so that is open to writer's discretion! :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

Author's Response: I know Jo left herself in a mess, bringing us rapidly to the finale of her massive tome without giving Harry a chance to explain what he planned to do. Of course, a lot of it was a surprise! B ut I wish he had stopped on his way to the forest and had a heart-to-heart with Ginny! But since he didn't, and he had no chance to talk to Ron and Hermione about his little Horcrux problem and the truth about wandlore, she had to let Harry explain it all in front of everyone in the Great Hall. I was left with my mouth hanging open -- a very unappealing sight -- and thinking, is this a good idea? And if he wan't going to do anything to safeguard the want, WTF? At least in the movie, they hadd the good sense to have Harry and Voldy away from the crowd, and then he explained it to Ron and Hermione before he snapped it and threw it into the great void that suddenly appeared out of nowhere in DH2. Whew! But the movies are the movies, and I'm working from the true canon -- the books! All of this is a very long-winded way of saying, "Yes, you're right!"

Whoa! This is what I call real drama. How marvellous. Thank you for a very very quick update. You made my day!

Author's Response: Thank you so much!
