Technical Issue
Recently, SIYE has developed a strange bug which makes some users unable to post chapters. The chapter looks fine when they upload and preview it, but once they actually submit it, the chapter text disappears. For an example, click here. In some other cases, an author tries to edit an existing chapter, and either the author cannot edit the text, or part of the text vanishes and the author cannot edit the text.

This bug does not affect all user accounts, but thus far we have been unable to detect a pattern amongst the accounts that are affected. The only way to test accounts to see if they’re working properly is for the authors to attempt to post a chapter or story.

For the moment, we do not have a reliable workaround. If you try to post a chapter and find that you’re affected by this bug, please let me know via PM or email (or you can reply to this post). We are working to address the root cause of the problem, and we’ll keep you updated if the process takes more than a few days.

UPDATE: (April 6) We think we have mostly fixed the problem. Please continue posting here or contacting me if you encounter any issues of this sort.

Thanks,
Sovran

I got worried when two stories were either empty or with nonsensical contents.

I know everyone is working on it with upmost importance. Hopefully it will be up and running soon. This just means I get to write more of the story before hand!

Not had any problems, but then I may be one of the lucky ones? Although, having said that now, I'm liable to get hit by whatever this problem is. Murphy's Law - anything that can go wrong, does.

Torak came out of the woodwork on 2009.04.03 - 04:13PM to say:

I wonder... does that mean comments aren't working now, or did muggle_born just mess up the coding?

I have faith you guys can fix the bug! That way I won't have to delete and repost everything.

I tried! We'll see if this one works. Nothing fancy.

Have you tried asking the isp to reboot the server?

ToughLove came out of the woodwork on 2009.04.08 - 05:04PM to say:

I posted a story 2 days ago and it hasnt been validated yet. is that a result of the bug?

Sovran came out of the woodwork on 2009.04.09 - 09:16AM to say:

ToughLove:No, that's just a result of the normal validation process.

Iconoclast came out of the woodwork on 2009.05.02 - 07:05PM to say:

Is this why whole stories are suddenly showing that they have not been validated and are vanishing after in some cases a couple of years on the site? Example Lecook4's work.
