It sounds as though Ginny is in for some serious training. The question of course is why she feels so compelled to do this.

Hmm well done do like it though I am going to say you have to have some reason behind the whole left hand thing since if I remember right it was Peters right in cannon. Though I will say every time you bring Ginny into the story makes me wonder more and more what you put her through earlier in the story or just wishing you would speed up there realationship not quite to gf/bf phase but at least to friend I don't know just seems your going slow is all.

Author's Response: You've left a whole chain of reviews. I'm going to lump them all together for one response . . .

I can hardly wait to hear what happened to Ginny and who did it and why they are still alive (if they are, that is). At least your Ginny isn't making bats erupt from noses every other chapter.

Author's Response: Now there's an idea. I could have her revert to hexing everyone just on principle. It's a much easier way to write her character. That said, the lack of a certain special hex thus far does not mean it won't appear...

Very enjoyable, as usual; always holds my attention.

I'm especially intrigued by the way that Cyril, and Remus, and even the Hat are all converging on Harry to shove him out of his emotional rut and into realizing the possibility of something like genuine joy. I suspected that this was something like your long-term plan, and I'll be interested to see how it plays out in the long term. Harry is certainly well-defended, isn't he?

I look forward to the next.

~Ken

Author's Response: I'm glad you're still giving it a go, even if the characters some people have as favorites aren't particularly enjoyable at the moment. Of course, quite a few people are firmly in your camp on that one. (I can't truly say I'd disagree with you or them, but I do find it fun to point out that it's not quite as dire as it may seem..)

Harry does seem to be getting picked on, doesn't he just? The next two might actually, dare I say it, make Harry seem like a human. But they might not, too. Hmmm, it's tough on that one. Let me know how it strikes you, eh?

Hey Josh,
This is a somewhat noteworthy moment for me, as this is my 1,000th review on SIYE. Actually, I’ve done quite a bit more as I did plenty before I got an account. So, I wanted this little milestone review to go to a friend’s story, so here it is.

And with that buildup, it will probably be lame as this is one my cold medicine review. Operating heavy machinery is certainly right out, but operating a key board has its own challenges.

One of the things that has stuck out to me of late (posted or not) in your chapters are the constant warnings Harry keeps receiving about how he treats others. It is Cyril’s turn regarding Snape in this chapter, and I can’t imagine that all those voices of reason expressing some caution to Harry will be for naught.

I also wanted to reiterate how pleased I am with how you finally handled the Ginny issue. I know this was quite the upheaval, but it reads very well and still accomplishes much of what you need. And at least this way you don’t have to deal with any flames because CHB Harry completely alienated your readers. This is good. And trust remains the aspect of the chapter that intrigues me most. I’m proud of how Harry handled himself in that regard even if he does require the new oath to make him feel secure. This is a first step in establishing genuine trust. This puts Harry in an interesting role, as if he doesn’t have enough on his plate as it is. Ah, the layers…

OK, I think this is decent considering my impaired faculties.
~ Christine

Author's Response: You did remarkably well. At the moment, I'm rather doped up on cold medicine as well, so my capacity for coherent thought is about on par with yours. Scary, eh?

There have been a couple of warnings about how Harry treats (x)... hmmm. And yet, people find this Harry to be, thus far, cold and inhumane. Related? Perhaps. Perhaps it's all about something else instead.

"The Ginny Issue" - that scene now has a name? Heh. When this is all over, I'm likely going to post a couple of out-takes and that will be on scene that goes in, along with justification for it, as well as how I got roasted for even trying it. Smirk. I agree that it still mostly works, even if it is diluted, and I've gamed out a couple of ways to strengthen the issue. I suspect, however, that people won't really understand some of the bits of Chapters 17 through 20 until Part II is a few chapters in. At any rate, thanks for everything Mama Bear. And get some rest.

I found this story late, so up until now I didn't have to wait for updates. I'm sure you already know who great this story is, and were it not for JKR, it would sell.

It will certainly be interesting to fin out what Ginny's on about. Even Harry with all his powers can't seem to suss it out.

I never push for updates...lol, too much pressure on the author, but need I say I'm certainly looking forward to more.

In case you don't post soon...Happy Christmas, and Happy Boxing Day to you and yours.

Author's Response: I suspect there will be at least one update before the hols, as it were. Thanks for the kind thoughts and leaving feedback. There are quite a few questions out there, aren't there? They all have answers, too. Some are big, some are little, but it all ties together ... somewhere. Cheers!

I should add this. Your Harry is wrapped up in layers. Already we are slowly seeing the Harry inside. You take risks when you write. Not enough writers do that. I sometiems think they want to appease the reader who want something immediately, especially fan fiction, A character is better devleoped that way,... and a better story. .

Author's Response: I'm glad you're able to enjoy the characters and story so much. A lot of other readers do seem to be somewhat frustrated at the appearance someone like Harry puts out, but as of yet, Harry's a bit of an enigma. He has his obvious motivations, but what about everything else? Thanks for the generous words. Stay tuned, more is coming soon.

I'm really enjoying this fic but I do have a few issues with your caracterization of Harry. While he is definitely the "hero" of your story, he comes off to me as somewhat patronizing and unsympathetic. In most conversations Harry has with other students, Harry is condescending, patronizing, mocking, or smug. It makes it hard to feel much empathy or fondness for your Harry. One of the things I've always liked about canon Harry (and the Harry is most of the fanfics I've read...) is his compassion and his humanity. He has a basic goodness that shines thru. It's a bit tough to find that goodness in your Harry. It's definitely there and it peeks out occasionally but those moments are few and far between.

Your writing is so excellent that I keep on with the story even tho I have these issues with Harry. I have hopes that he will soon begin showing more genuine liking for his fellow students and a bit of emotional vunerabilitry in his dealings with Ginny. I assume that Harry and Ginny will become closer and that Harry will develop feelings for her.

I want to root for your Harry and I definitely admire your writing skills and your story in general. Thus I continue to avidly await each of your updates!

Author's Response: You're in good company. A lot of people feel the same way. I'd like to think the better you get to know Harry, the more "human" he's becoming. That said, I agree that right now he's rather unlikable. By the end of Part I, let alone Parts II & III, that should be different. Thanks for reading, being honest, and leaving feedback.

Terrific chapter! I love how Pomfrey and McGonagall stood up to that imbecile!
Training Ginny should be interesting.

wow...okay...i am too tired to think...hehe...a month of almost non-stop school and projects galore...well...you find yourself very very tired...

and to the Author's responce to my last review...stoicism philosophy much?

anyway...i look forward to the next chapter...i loved how you had McGonagall basically tell off Fudge....

for the most part, im not sure what to think...partly because my brain is fried, but thats besides the point..

i like the Harry and Ginny interactions...its interesting...im just waiting for Harry to fall for her and be totally blown away by that...but i highly doubt that will happen in this fic, maybe in part two or another part...dunno how may fics youre planning...

and you do realize that you have eighteen chapters covering maybe eight days? is this one just covering part of this year, or all...because its going to be around one hundred chapters if it covers all of the year...

i look forward to the next chapter...i would write a pretty, long, and well thought review, but again, i reiterate, i am brain fried...i love it...update soon?...~Ginny M~

Author's Response: Stoicism? "what does not kill you... just makes you really tired." That's my life speaking at a 100dB level, at any rate.

What're you studying, anyway?

Now, pardon me but I simply must take you to task over this. HG does happen in Part I of Echoes. And before the end of Part I. Now, how hard the fall will be... heh. I hope you'll enjoy it when it comes.

I believe I have 20 chapters and some 170k words covering ~8 days. Is this a protest? Part I goes to December. Part I is also the most detailed. Next chapter in beta...

I'm glad you're still reading and enjoying.

Your story is the best on SIYE. Hope you get as many readers as you deserve. Smart dialogue. Love your ideas on magic. (I recommend JBern - Bungle in the jungle och ff.net). Keep it up. Thank you.

Author's Response: While I appreciate the kind thoughts, I can think of some other authors here on SIYE that might choose to disagree. Someone else recently suggested I take a glance at Bungle. It's on my list for when I get some free time. I'm glad you're enjoying the story so much, and continue to follow it. I think it's becoming apparent that it's my first effort at fanfic, and the details I worked out are ... well .. detailed.

love it! but i need to know wats goin on with ginny?!?! why does she wanna learn to defen herself so badly - but why is she so scared!?? cant wait for more!

Author's Response: All answers come to those who wait. Sorry, I know that can be frustrating. What's going on with Ginny? Lots of clues are out there, but the explanation hasn't come out explicitly yet. Why is Ginny wanting to learn to defend herself? You will get some very explicit answers as time goes by, but at present there are only a few vague hints out there. Thanks for reading.

ok forgot to add the bi with mcgonagall & the fudge & toad team absolutly brilliant i absoultly love the way youve taken two of cannons most replusive carecter (personally i think umbridge is the most evil charecter in the books). & yet in you fic yes there still repulsive but the way evryone treats the they often end up becoming you funnest sceans and as for that picture of mcgonagall look thats defenatly something that has got to make a second apperance.

Author's Response: Thanks for the kind words. I put in the original scenes, and then my betas go back and "fix" it all, so I suspect a lot of the enjoyment credit ought to go to them for making the scenes work so well...

I enjoyed the way that Harry got Ginny to smile. It wasn't much, but their relationship needs to start to grow again. I like that you had her approach Harry. It shows her determination. although I'm still wondering what is bothering her.

I liked the early exchange with Fudge and Snape.

If I was Harry I would go nuts with everyone (his mentor, the hat) speaking vaguely and wanting him to think about it. Sometimes being told straight out is better than having to figure it out yourself.

Looking forward to the next chapter.

Author's Response: Harry does seem to be surrounded by people with a penchant for talking around him, doesn't he? There are a couple of notable exceptions there, but... The H/G relationship is, dare I say it, at an inflection point. It either needs to start swinging up, or fall over completely. At this point, you know which way it's going. Glad you're still enjoying the story.

a very intriging chapter
this fic certanly has a very detailed & complex view on how magic works as defrent charecter have difrent ways of viewing it,

so ginny going to be magical trined as well hopefully she will be able to control those burst of magic she has & maybe we will even find out what they are & what relly happend to her sevral years ago (sorry buit i cant rember which year it was ill have to reread the chapters again when i have time) . I also suspect you have a rather defrent view on ginnys name then in cannon.

defenatly looking forward to Geneva next chapter

Author's Response: Thanks for sticking with the story. I spent a rather long period of time reflecting on how JKR's world is set up, and how the magic gets used, and then started trying to ask questions as to how and why things work. The end result was a theory of magic that's ... well ... involved. You'll get more details as we go along. I'm glad you're still reading.

I really like your protrayal of Harry. Nothing one dementional about him. There are some funny lines in this too. "I do hope you have finally learned how to Vanish a serpent. It would be ever so useful in your career, but then, if memory serves me right, you did fail to pass your OWL in Transfiguration, not to mention several other subjects." What a pompus jerk. You really nailed Fudge. Great way this story is going. I know a lot of people wanted the next chaper. Worth the wait.

Author's Response: Thanks for sticking with the story. I've never been a fan of the rather simplistic portrayal of characters. The problem is, I'm finding out that there's a reason Robert Jordan's books are like that. The devil is in the details, and when you want detailed characters, well... I'll drop a periodic status update on the group if you want advance notice. You can also just make this a favorite story and get auto-notified when the next chapter validates. Sorry for the presently erratic posting schedule.

Warding and loving and fear, oh my!

Lots of interesting developments in this chapter. Ginny and her problems have some very interesting qualifications. I like Harry's seriousness in this chapter. Not that he's normally frivolous, but it comes across nicely here. Remus and Cyril continue to fascinate in their own ways. And has anyone considered loosing McGonagall on Voldemort and then waiting for him to turn himself in?

Author's Response: You're not expecting lions, tigers, and bears in this story, now are you? Qualifications to problems? "Excuse me, are you qualified for having this problem? Do you have a license for this?" Makes you think of putting them all on a leash. Heh.

Turning McG onto V for a grudge match would be fun. Maybe I should write a one-shot. Plot bunnies. It'll go in my bunny file, and maybe one day...

Yes it was a bit short but I think I'd need the whole thing to read before I was satisfied. me wanting more is always a sign I enjoyed it. :-)

Scones for breakfast? All that jam and clotted cream, yuk! ;-)

Author's Response: Glad you're enjoying the story still. "Inflection Points" takes 4 chapters, even though it was only going to be one in my sketch. Err. Oops?

And how can anyone not like fresh scones, right from the oven? I do enjoy currants or blueberries, but lately I've been making them with cherries. Mmmm. And clotted cream and jam. Mmmmm.
