Vernon being horrible makes sense for the story, but it also makes me feel a little bit more empathy for Petunia. Maybe he amplified the worst of her inclinations and dulled the goodness that might have once been more prominent. I liked how a hesitant Petunia wanted to keep in contact with Harry, even if only occasionally. Really enjoying this story.

Author's Response: That is exactly what I was going for. I am glad the story made you feel that way! Thank you, and happy reading!!

It was fun to read your Ginny in the morning. It was somewhat surprising that she is a coffee freak, but why not ...
I'd already suspected that the owl will be Ginny's eventually. The scene was brilliant, how a grumpy Ginny becomes a beaming Ginny.
The plot regarding Mr. Prächt is somehow dubious and intriguing but nevertheless interesting. I am excited to know a bit more about the box.
The farewell from Private Drive was impressive, a character study for all three of them, Petunia, Vernon and the maturing Harry. I wonder if Harry will ever see Petunia again.
I'm glad that Harry's finally back at the Burrow, surrounded by his friends ... and a little more comfort time with Ginny, for him and for us ...

... and as a true Gryffindor I wouldn't stop to read the story because of a snake named Malfoy. (OK, as long as the snake stays away from Ginny. But I'm pretty sure that Ginny is in a safe environment on siye, lol)

Great chapter! Thank you!

Author's Response: Ah, yes, Mr. Prächt ... he is a support character to be sure, but he will continue to pop up in the story from time to time. You would not have noticed by posting dates, but I actually began writing this story about ten years ago and just about abandoned it twice. So, I was writing much of this before Deathly Hallows was released. Somehow, even though I let it be for years at a time the story haunts me and has always called me back. Now I am committed to finishing it, even though my life doesn't always seem to agree with me.

The scene with Ginny receiving her owl was very fun to write, and the coffee, rather than tea was a logical progression of the idea that Coffee has made a huge upsurge in popularity in the U.K. while the whole Starbuck's phenomenon raged through the states, so I figured Arthur, being the Muggle watcher that he is would have had occasion to try it and bring it into his household, thus exposing Ginny to it, and well, some people once exposed are caught for life. It's an addiction really. (He says, as he sips a cup of freshly ground and brewed heaven from a hand crafted ceramic mug.)

And, Harry finally cracking and having it out with Vernon was also fun to write and very cleansing for Harry as a character. Unfortunately, for your answer regarding if Harry will ever see Petunia again, you will have to keep reading until the fate of the Dursley's is revealed.

As for Ginny, you are quite right that she is in a safe place, exactly where she belongs, at Harry's side as an equal.

Thank you so much for reading and commenting, and I will look forward to reading your comments when I return from my trip.

Ginny slurping coffee is quite disturbing and I doubt Aruthur would forego his morning cup of tea: the family isn't American and even if they were, I think Molly would have more of a say over what her family drinks first thing in the morning. After all, they are a traditionally British family. I can see Ron drinking coffee, because Hermione did in HBP, but not Ginny.

It seems the Weasley family has graciously accepted the money Petunia has deposited in their vault and that Ginny is very pleased with her new owl. Like Harry, I'm filled with curiosity about his name.

Oh boy, have you got Vernon pegged! He's still the blustering, ungrateful, selfish man he is in canon and every time he opens his mouth, I want to punch him in the nose! However, Harry did a very good job of cowing him the night before he left and I must admit I was bouncing up and down as the scene played out.

Finally, I'm glad Harry is finall "home."

Author's Response: Yes, I will admit that the coffee is a bit of a nod to the fact that I am an American author. I have tried to include British-isms as much as I can comfortably without overdoing it, but coffee has invaded the world over and even the British drink it with increasing regularity. I'll just have to ask you the bear with me on this one little concession. I grew up in a home where my mother detested coffee, but my father had to have it, and we all started drinking it very early on. Yes Arthur and Molly finally just had to accept the money. I still think they would prefer to give it back if they could find a way to do so graciously. But then again, with Harry all but a part of the family, they will have to accept extension that their money woes are likely to go by the way-side. I am glad you enjoyed the way Harry handled Vernon, it was a long time coming, but it was the final icing on the cake of Harry's overcoming their influence. Yes, Harry is finally home... well, sorta. Thanks so much for reading and your continued comments! Happy reading.

Well I'm glad he's out of there and got to tell Dursley what he thought of him. I'm very glad he got Ginny her owl. I hope Arthur has the same little chat with Hermione (I know he won't). It seemed a bit...I don't know exactly, but he's welcoming Harry into their house and rather implying if he doesn't behave he'll be out. Wouldn't it make more sense to sit down with both of them and telling them what they expect?

Author's Response: Teenagers are a tricky lot. I think Arthur understands that. I think he would leave talking to Ginny up to Molly, and even though I didn't show that, I guess I have imagined that Ginny and Molly have had more than a few conversations about what is appropriate and what is not. I view Arthur and Molly as very good parents and I think their expectations are well known, however, we are still dealing with teenagers, who at this age often disagree with their parents, and think they know what is better in the long run.

Also, remember that both Ron and Hermione are already 17, so their case is viewed a little differently. Yes they are both children in the eyes of parents, but they are also legal adults. We'll just have to watch (like parents do) to see how this all unfolds.

Thanks so much for your comments. Happy reading!
