I appreciated your balanced and plausibly canonical rendition of the 97-98 Hogwarts school year. It was brushed together in only the faintest of strokes by Rowling, leaving many fanfic writers to compose a seemingly endless diversity of accounts, many of which are jarring, and many others trivial. The only other version that I can recall having a balance comparable to yours was Reis MacLeod's version in 'Ginny Weasley and the Half Blood Prince' -- a fine read if you haven't already see it.

Anyway, well done!

Author's Response: Thanks so much! Somehow I missed this review, and I appreciate it so much. You are always thoughtful and insightful. I tried very hard to imagine what it would have been like for Snape as he walked a very thin tightrope, trying to protect the students without getting himself killed, and thereby subjecting the students to even worse treatment! Once Severus chose his final path, it became a very difficult one to navigate. I doubt tghe Carrows would have trusted him any more than did Bellatrix! I feel such compassion for Snape at some time, and at others, I can't find any in my heart. Yes, I know he is a fictional character! LOL! But his life was hard ... very hard ... but so much of it was of his own choosing. Had he been able to let go of his obsession with Lily Evans Potter, could he have found happiness? We know it was impossible for him to do so when he couldn't let go of his all-consuming love. I think back to my personal misery when my girlfriend of three years gave me an ultimatum: marry her or say good-bye. Being 18-years-old, I said good-bye. Then, showing my remarkable immaturity and proving I had no business getting married, I sat on the sofa for two weeks doing nothing but moping! Then a friend kicked my butt, set me up on a blind date, and nearly 44 years later, I am amazed every day by how much more I adore my wife ... the women with whom he arranged that blind date! If only Snape had been friends with someone who would have kicked him out of his self-imposed depression! I have not read 'Ginny Weasley and the Half Blood Prince' and will go find it right away. I assumed it would be a recitation of Ginny's fifth year, not her experience of Snape as Headmaster! That's waht they say about assumption ... the mother of screw up! Well, that's not what 'they' say, exactly, but you'll get the drift! LOL!

Author's Response: P.S. - OOPS!!! Please excuse all my rushed typos! Most importantly, I am married to a wonderful 'woman,' not 'women!'

I'm relieved that Ginny shared her experiences with Harry of her year at Hogwarts. It is difficult to imagine the place getting that bad, but I suppose the good professors couldn't be everywhere preventing every horror. The funeral of Snape at Godric's Hollow was well done. Looking forward to the wedding!

Author's Response: Thanks! I think the "good professors," especially the Headmaster, could not afford too much direct confrontation. They intervene when things get too bad, but choose their battles. Otherwise, Pious Thickness will have them removed and replaced by more Death Eaters.

Well then Mr Bombad, you certainly have been busy. I see you have been writing, reading and reviewing quite a bit as of late.

You have managed to keep me reading a post DH epilogue story, even though I have read several hundred of them. As time has gone on, I have been inclined to read fewer and fewer of them. Take that as a compliment.

Also, it has been fun seeing your recent reviews of GHL's one of a kind brain twister, Splinters. Tickle my fancy and perhaps you will land a proper RighT3rantZ reaction.

Author's Response: Thank you very much! I do take your comments as a compliment! It's funny how many changes are occurring as I rewrite this story! Character have a habit of exerting their own will over the author in such efforts. For example, Harry and Ginny just accepted Vernon and Petunia's insults and let them keep the check. This time around, not so much. Now, as for a proper reaction!!!! The a appearance of "rant" in your moniker leaves me quaking in my Bombadilian boots! Thanks again, and I'll try to avoid earning a rant!!!

Well i thin they name the right choice but not the easiest of one.....as for ron he still need to grow up....as for rita well she will figure it out faster that sr malfoy......kutgw

Author's Response: Yes, Rita is a liar and a opportunist, two forms of evil. However, she pales in comparison to Lucius Malfoy. Ron isn't stupid, but he is likewise, not observant. I found him a baffling character in canon -- endearing one moment, infuriating the next! Yes, he needs to grow up and stop being so intellectually lazy, insecure as to his comparison to both Harry and the accomplishments of his older brothers, and his unfettered jealousy of his younger sister. Ginny is just as brave as Ron. She is a better Quidditch player, is more open minded and, as a result makes friends more easily outside Gryffindor House. I suspect inside Gryffindor, as well. She is more accomplished academically and socially. He humor is witty, not fueled by the rage of insecurity and jealousy. Once Ron grows up, I think he can become like his siblings, but will he ever do so?

Very good chapter.
Very fitting way to end Snape's days, being buried in Godric's Hallow, near Lily.
Loved how McGonagall was shocked at seeing Ginny sitting at the table in Harry's shirt.

Author's Response: Thank you so much! I'm glad you agreed with the ending I chose for Snape. Close to Lily, but not with her, and within sight of her burial plot immediately next to her husband. It just seemed right to me. Minerva has seen everything before, but even she would not have been prepared for Ginny's casual reception of a guest while wearing Harrys shirt. I wanted to depict Ginny as being totally comfortable in her role as mistress of the House of Potter!

I've read quite a few aftermath stories which include all sorts of ideas of the abuse heaped upon the students by the Carrows. They range from mildly infuriating to outright shocking. I'd rate your imagination somewhere closer to the shocking end of the spectrum just because Crabbe and Goyle got away with humiliating girls for so long.

I was amused at your statement in response to my last review that you try hard to separate movie canon from book canon. It amazes me that no matter how we try, we fan fic writers always manage to blur the line a bit in our stories. The most common infraction is the amount of Floo powder needed to activate the flames: in the movies, Ron takes a huge handful, in the books it's just a pinch. I've always told my authors that the Weasley family would never go anywhere by Floo if each of the children used that much Floo powder to go anywhere; the flower pot on the mantle would have been too large to hold and Mr. and Mrs. Weasley would never have been able to afford that much Floo powder to begin with! Right?

I liked the scenes in Godric's Hollow very much. They were a touching finale to the life of Severus Snape.

All in all, well done.

Author's Response: Thank you! I have ambiguous feelings about Severus Snape. I would never have named my son EITHER Albus or Severus, and certainly not both! Now, you had me splitting my sides with paughter about the floo powder. Now I am going to have to go back and see how much I had them using! LOL!!! Yes, nine people traveling by floo would have been quite the problem when it was used a handful at a time! As I recall, it was quite expensive, as you couldn't just gather up the ashes from the fireplace. Or is that outside canon and purely the result of reading far too much FF? Finally, I obviously envisionGinny's time at Hogwarts during he sixth year as, at least with respect to the presence of the Death Eaters, as a living Hell hole. I truly appreciate your reviews and appreciate your insights as well as your sense of humor!

An excellent chapter! So much of it was dark and/or tragic, but the light parts were so lovely. I love the connection between Ron and Hermione. I'm glad you didn't resort to making Hermione cold and Ron a jerk. They're not perfect people, by any means, but so often they seem to fall into those roles.

I really like what you did with Snape's funeral too. Harry is gracious and fair, without romanticizing Snape (although I'm still not completely at peace with naming his son after him).

May favorite bit though was the ending. I really loved how Ginny sees the Potter cottage, and comparing it to the Burrow and thinking about raising a family there... It was really very sweet.

It's hard to believe so much has happened in such a short time. How have they not collapsed? Surely adrenaline must have run out by now. I guess wizards and witches come from hardier stock than muggles, lol.

Author's Response: Thank you so much for your comment concerning my treatment of Ron and Hermione. Neither is perfect, but neither is a complete ass. I enjoy stories in which Hermione turns out to be a blathering shrew and Ron behaves only in accordance with his worst character traits. They can be quite amusing ... Just as the stories that show Dumbledore to be an evil puppet master who is dead set on seeing Harry sacrified. People forget the flash of hopeful reflection on Dumbledore's face when he learned that Tom had used Harry's blood when he reconstituted his body (with the help of Mr. Wormtail)! I'll never forget Hermione saving Harry in Godric's Hollow or Ron pulling him from the ice-covered pond! Yes, she nagged him. Yes, he abandoned them both, at least for a while. Yes, they all were less than perfect. But they loved each other most of the time and worked well together, though not as well as Harry and Ginny would have done had he not been so tunnel-visioned! And, despite the incredible wealth that Harry has come into, Ginny will always be Ginny. Simple, straightforward, beautiful inside and out, Ginny! As for their energy levels, when I was 16, 17, and 18, I would play football, run a track workout, do my homework, and run over to my girlfriend's house after her father had gone to bed! Energy was boundless and time stretched forever. Now, after raising five wonderfvul daughters, I could use just a fraction of that energy!

Author's Response: OOPS, I replied to your stateement about Harry naming one of his sons after Snape. As you can see above, I would not havd named my child EITHER Severus or Albus. Severus may have been brave, but hs was sickly enamored with Lily Evans Potter. Imagine nursing a flame that long. Now imagine being that much in love with her and finding a way to call her a Mudblood. No matter how angry I have ever become of my wife of almost 40 years, I have never called her anything remotely that disgusting. I love and respect her too much to stoop that low! As for Dumbledore, I'm sorry, but his failure to seek for a better answer as well as his failure to tell Harry about his being an accidental Horcrux was unforgivable. If Dumbledore wouldn't do it, at least Harry deservex some tims to try to reasdon out another solution!

This was a really brilliant chapter! I loved every detail.

I'm glad Harry was shown how wrong he was to think that Ginny is safe when he isn't with her. I liked her tale about her last year at Hogwarts. It sounded quite realistic for me.
I also like Ginny's idea of her wedding. It is so typically Ginny to consider the important aspects only, soon and with the closest friends on the guest list only. Don't talk about it, let’s do it! It would have been a brilliant reinforcement on the Horcrux hunt.
Even though I'm not a downright Snape fan, I think that Harry's decision regarding his funeral is a very good idea.

So much happened in so few hours, I'm quite curious if Hogwarts will still be part of this story.

Author's Response: Thanks, again, for your always thoughtful reviews! Obviously I agree with your assessment of Ginny's wedding desires. I've read stories of her being barefoot on the beach, and similar ideas, and they always struck me as being typically, totally, Ginny. Notice, I never have anyone call her "Gin" as Jo never, ever used more of a diminutive for Ginny in canon. Ginny isn't cutesy and she isn't presumptuous, that's why "Ginny" is just right, "Gin" is too cutesy, and "Ginevra," as beautiful as it sounds on the tongue, is too much for her. She is just "Ginny" and I think that's just right!

Author's Response: Sorry, forgot something. Yes, Hogwarts appears in this story. It doesn't feature too prominently, however, though the school becomes more important in the sequel, which I began years ago, but remains unfinished. *sigh*
