Reviews For A Proper Epilogue

Reviewer: melindaleo Signed Date: 2018.02.14 - 11:43AM Title: Chapter 15 - St. Mungo's

Oh, such a sad, sad chapter. Even though I was less than thrilled with them having a baby, this isn't something I'd wish on my worst enemy. So sad. What I adored about it, however, is that you had Ron and Hermione there to share Harry's grief. They are such a hugely important part of his life, and so many of us H/G fans tend to forget that. They are his family, and it seemed so right he'd turn to them. In the same vein, I love that it was Molly who is there for Ginny. Molly will always be her mum, and I really, really appreciate the acknowledgement of these others in our young couples lives. Harry's life is still in danger. There's no doubt others who think as Lucius, and hopefully Harry will realize he can do more good hunting them down than returning to school.

Author's Response: I am so glad you were pleased with my choices for primary support groups in this chapter. Ginny will forever be Harry’s greatest source of comfort, just as she will forever be the only person to have shared the darkness of Tom’s intimate presence, but I felt each needed an opportunity to ground their emotions before they could help one another. For Harry, the obvious choice was to turn back inside the trio. For Ginny, the last Weasley to leave Home and only female child, only Molly would do. Thank you for your lovely, insightful reviews and for sharing your stories with us!

This chapter is a fascinating exercise in conflictedness -- healing followed by woundedness; resolution but irresolution, etc. It makes it all maddeningly real, as opposed to the nicely packaged fictions that we're so accustomed to. So, well done!

I loved Hermione's line about evil rising up to replace evil. This is a great example of Hermione's book smarts evolving into wisdom, which is a development that JKR provides a few faint hints at in books 1-6, and showed a little more in DH. Anyway, I like it, since I believe that many people who really try to learn things also learn to 'understand' things.

Author's Response: Thank you for sticking with this story! I truly appreciate your insights. I'm so glad you liked the way I had Hermione continue down the transition from knowledge to wisdom. So many stories set after Deathly Hallows have continued to write Ron, Hermione, and Molly as if none of them had evolved despite having gone through this terrible war. I just don't get it. Yes, it is fun to have an easy foil built right into the group of main characters, but it never feels right to me that Ron would remain a clueless, jealous child, Hermione would be shown as an abrasive, self-centered know-it-all, and Molly would be a shrew of a judgmental mother who insists that her daughter remain a 12-year-old. I hope I have allowed all the characters to develop, yet not become unrecognizable!

I am glad that the first person Ginny saw was Molly and not Harry. It will Be easier fro her to truly mourn her baby.

Author's Response: I felt like she would be better able to work through her fears and emotions of all types ... other than good ... with her mum, rather than Harry. He would be grieving as much as she is, but would not understand Ginny's fears. Thank you so much!!!

I love, love, love that bit with Molly and Harry where he finally calls her Mum.

I'm wondering just how unscathed Ginny will be. She had a moment of fear about giving Harry a family, but how long will that fear roil beneath the surface? Or will she out with it? Harry will love her no matter what (and canon says all will be well on that front), but will this be discussed openly or will it manifest in other ways? I can see her avoiding intimacy with Harry for fear it will prove that she can't give him a family, but I can also see her coming on very strong and being careless to try and prove that she can give him that family.

I also really like what you did with Pansy realizing that something was wrong and not merely risky. Finally she could see that cunning and ambition can't run unchecked.

I also really loved the interaction between Ron and Harry. Instead of letting Ron be that 2-dimensional, over-protective brother, you had him recognize and comfort the grief that his best friend must be suffering. Well done!

(Hopefully I'll keep getting notifications properly now and won't fall behind again...)

Author's Response: Thank you so much! This is a most thoughtful review and, if I were to respond to all your insightful questions, I wouldn't need to keep posting! LOL! I really enjoy and appreciate your reviews. Sorry your computer shuffled the notices into your trash. I have another chapter ready to post, so I'll stop responding and get to posting!

Poor Ginny. I feel so terribly sorry for her and Harry. Hopefully Molly will respond appropriately to the news, though it will come as a shock I'm sure. Ron's reaction was rather wonderful. It is nice to read a story where he is depicted as growing into a fine young man, instead of a perpetually deficient one. Looking forward to reading more about how Kingsley handles this.

Author's Response: Thank you so much! I'm glad you like the way I have chosen to allow the primary players to develop in this story. I understand why some authors choose to emphasize the negative characteristics of Ron, Hermione, and/or Molly. In fact some of those stories are among my favorites to read and re-read. It makes for terrific conflicts and the elements do, indeed, exist in canon. Hermione is a know-it-all and is bossy as hell, and she chooses to ignore Harry when his ideas differ from hers. But she is also brave, dedicated, remains loyal to Harry when the man she loves walks out on them! Molly is overprotective and believes too much of what she reads in the Daily Prophet, but she is firmly on the side of Light and loves her family (including Harry) fiercely. Similar observations can be made about Ron, but I am running out of time. Thank you, once again, for the faithful and understanding, insightful reviews!

Well molly is now going to see ginny in a whole new light and will be able to help her move forward...but ginny is right she did need to see harry right then and there....as for draco. He at lease understood how to stay out of jail, but something may have changed.....kutgw

Author's Response: Very astute observations, and thank you for the review. I truly appreciate you for making the consistent effort to let me know what you think!
