Reviews For Path Diverged II

I have to admit, I missed the "You don't have to call me sir, Professor" line very much - although maybe I'm mis-remembering where it took place. I loved Ron coming to Harry's defense and explaining to the girls why he was upset. Harry really did simply follow different directions than Hermione. It was only her displeasure at being beaten that was the cause of her frustration.

Author's Response: You're right, that's when it was supposed to happen. I really adore that line, but it didn't feel right in the moment given where Harry's at mentally/emotionally. I'm hoping for a later opportunity in the story where it can happen as a sign of Harry really regaining his sarcasm and wit as his reactions to triggers and the triggers themselves decrease. I'm several chapters ahead in my rough drafts, and those kinds of remarks are starting to become more commonplace again. I love finding ways to explore Ron's loyalty to Harry as well as the aspects of his personality that make him so perfect as Harry's best friend. Too many stories focus on Ron's oblivious nature at the cost of who he really is, you know? Thank you!

Another brilliantly written chapter. Poor Harry, Moldy-shorts whispering in his head, everyone staring at him, Snape in his favorite subject, girls looking at him like meat, Hermione not trusting him and Ron being made out as the smart one of the crew. Good thing he has Ginny.

Congratulations on your 2019 Best Romance Award.

MNF

Author's Response: Yeah, Harry's got to readjust to life at Hogwarts despite all the things in his life that have changed. It's definitely a good thing he has Ginny. Thank you!

You have artfully entangled the events of the HBP chapter with the new material in your own. I like the changes very much since they show how changing just one or two events affects the whole. I think the part I liked best was the dinner scene at the end with Ginny doubting Harry and finally getting to explain why she was so suspicious of Harry's borrowed book. I understood the reference from the canon passage the first time I read HBP, but you put a better perspective on it than Rowling does. Ginny Bat-Bogey-Hexing Romilda was the perfect ending to that particular discussion. Not that Romilda will learn anything from it!

It was also good to see that Ron is so staunchly loyal to Harry and defended him against Dean's remarks during the nightmare scene. I'm also glad that Neville understands a little more than Dean and Seamus do and also jumped in to defend Harry.

You're right about misprinted books. I once had to buy and read a paperback book for a class, then write an essay on it in two days' time. The book I bought had two first halves, so I completely understand Harry's frustration at having bought a book with two second halves. So, yes, mis-bindings do happen.

Well done. I look forward to the next chapter.

Author's Response: Thank you! I used to write Supernatural fanfic, and my focus was how changing one event affected everything that came after. I had a pretty massive AU going over on ffn where some things changed, but some things didn't. Suffice it to say, I've had a lot of practice figuring out how to balance canon events with the changes resulting from that specific event. It's quite easily my favorite thing to do when writing fanfiction! One thing I have found important in writing this story is the impact of trauma. Obviously Harry's trauma is front and center in this story, but I wanted to look at the effects of trauma years later, as well. I think it helps highlight just how well Ginny is able to understand and relate to Harry. Romilda definitely deserved to get hexed, but you're right, she hasn't learned her lesson as of yet. Ron really is a good and loyal friend to Harry, and I wanted to show that loyalty in action. Neville was around enough during the summer holidays to understand and defend Harry, too. I've never personally encountered any book misprints, but I thought it a plausible way for Harry to still end up with the borrowed copy. Thanks again for your review!

Well everyone is going to land on these mines at one point or another, but Hermione needs to realize sometimes not following the directions in a book is a good thing...kutgw

Author's Response: Adjusting with all these land mines is going to be difficult, but Harry will slowly improve. As for Hermione... yeah, her insistence on following the directions isn't always the best. Thank you!

The Potions lab scene was one of my favorite parts of HBP and you handled it very well! Laughed at Romillda finding out the hare way why you don't aggravate the red-headed fire breather! Interesting first day all the way around! (Happy to admit I was one of the ones that voted for you in the awards!) :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

Author's Response: Thank you! I definitely didn't want to lose the potions lab scene entirely. I had a lot of fun writing that confrontation between Romilda and Ginny. Things will settle down in terms of judgemental girls and such. Eventually. Thank you for voting for my story!
