Interesting chapter! The Gaunts are a perfect example of a dysfunctional family! With those genes it's no wonder Voldeschmuck was so screwed up!

I've been MIA recently what with everything going on but now I have caught up and I really enjoyed the past few chapters! This one in particular was interesting, seeing how the scenes we know from HBP would have played out with Sirius still there! Hope you are doing well and can have a well deserved break now that you're on spring break for a bit :)
Author's Response: I have missed you, my friend! I hope you are doing well. I do enjoy taking certain moments from the books and seeing how they play out with Sirius there. I can promise plenty of original writing coming up next, though! I am spending my time with this week's break being either incredibly lazy or writing a bunch of words, which has unexpectedly included the climax at the end of the story. I know what I'm working towards now! I'm excited about getting to that point, and analyzing all the changes coming your way as the story progresses. I have a few more chapters that pull pretty heavily from HBP, but we really start trekking out into different territory by Christmastime, and I'm super excited to get to that point. Thank you!

Well i am glad to see harry learning something from albus but I think your right to have the ride construe a little longer and not jump off the tracks right yet....as for harry learning more he needs his friend more then ever now....kutgw
Author's Response: I genuinely loved unraveling Voldemort's past using the memories Dumbledore collected in the book, and I was wholly reticent to give that up. I also really wanted to approach this particular memory from Harry's view given the experiences he has had in my stories, because it reads a bit differently when you're willing to admit to the abuse you both see and have experienced. Having said that, things will really be different by the time we get to Christmas and beyond. Harry is understanding quite well how important his friends are. They are his support system, and we'll be seeing more of how that works in the next few chapters. Thanks!

Squeee! I love this chapter! You've taken a very sordid part of HBP and made it so real for both Harry and your readers. Giving Harry the power to translate the Parseltongue for Sirius and Dumbledore really must have given him a purpose to stay in the memory and stick it out until the end. Also, having Sirius with him, providing silent support, was exactly what Harry needed even after they came out of the Pensieve. Harry has needed that kind of a hug for so long and it goes straight to my fluffy spot every time he gets one from Sirius. The end has made me all verklempt! Well done!
Author's Response: HBP came out when I was 17 years old, and I remember being a bit horrified by this chapter in the story even as I raced through the pages, desperate to know what came next. It was important to me to still include it because of the experiences Harry has had throughout my stories and the different perspective he has gained as a result. That memory is filled with abuse, both blatant and implied, but Harry has reached a place where he's more willing to name it for what it is. I needed it to help show how far Harry has come both on his own and in his relationship with Sirius, as well, which I clearly did given your response. Thank you!
