Ron, Hermione and Ginny catching (without being seen) Dumbledore's candid moment as he gazed at Harry was probably a good thing for them to see...to realise that Dumbledore does really have Harry's best interests at heart and that it probably causes him a great deal of hurt to have to cause Harry any pain. I'm sure if Dumbledore could, he would have gladly taken on his shoulder some, if not all, of harry's responsibilities. Later on in the chapter you could feel the cost of Harry's admission...to voice that he needs Dumbledore because he knows he cares about Harry. But also at the same time I think it was good for Harry to voice that....because I don't think he believed it before.

It interested me that Dunbledore asked Hermione to cast the privacy spells. He is well able to do that sort of thing himself, but I can see that it would be a real confidence boost to Hermione for Dumbledore to ask her to do it. And this group of students have such an important task ahead of them that the level of their self confidence is so important.

Which brings me on to Ron's reaction when Dumbledore had finished praising Ginny and Hermoine for their efforts in the battle...he really didn't feel that he had done anything special and it was really nice to see the change in his demeanour....again self confidence of each individual is vital.

I also found it interesting that Harry had obvioulsy understood some of what had gone on at the school during the battle and the reasons for it. It was much more of him explaining what had happened and why rather than Dumbledore. Why hadn't he shared....or was he just too ill?

Again it was nice to here of some collaboration and equality between the houses....Blaise and Theo are going to have very difficult times ahead of them....that showed immense bravery. It was also good that Harry was more than willing to offer Grimauld Place as shelter for them. I don't know what school after the summer will be like for them if things stay as they are at present. Ron's amazed reaction is typical of how we have so many stereotypes in our heads...it's so easy to do...

Loved how the chapter ended on a romantic note with them "busted"!

Author's Response: I've come to the conclusion that this chapter is very important for all the main characters. Professor Dumbledore knows what's coming for them and used this time to build team coherence as it were. Hermione is a whiz at spells when she has time to think, but put her in a stressful situation and she's rubbish until she realizes she's capable of using those spells under pressure. Harry, for all his new-found confidence in a combat situation, still needs the support of those he loves and Dumbledore letting him be the one to explain various things was attempting to bolster Harry's leadership skills. (Also, with all the extra training Harry's had recently, his observation skills--both visual and auditory--have increased exponentially. His reason for not sharing what he's seen and heard is a combination of not having the time and his illness.) As for Ron, I've always felt that he feels left out and often supurflous in most situations, whether with his friends or his family. He needed to realize that just because he's not in the spotlight like Harry and Hermione, it doesn't mean that he's not important. Finally, the subject of house unity and how Gryffindors are helping Slytherins is just the beginning of what's to come in the last two chapters. You'll need to read the last story in the trilogy to find out exactly what happens with Hogwarts after the summer holiday. I'll just say that they will be difficult and the prejudice spread by Voldemort is a main theme in that story. I hope you get a chance to read it. I appreciate your taking the time to comment on this chapter and hope this explanation helps clarify a few of your questions..

The summer should be interesting.

You should create a Series on this website and put this story and 'You're Still You' in it.

Author's Response: I haven't figured out how to switch the two stories from singles to series, but that's a very good idea. By the way, I'm already working on the sequel. It's called Summer Story. Look for the first chapter after I post the Epilogue of this story. Thanks for your comments.

Author's Response: Thank you for the review. Unfortunately, Harry still must go to the Dursleys. He just doesn't know how long he will have to stay with his aunt. I do want to thank you, though. You've given me an idea for Part Eighteen and I appreciate it. That chapter should be out in a couple of weeks. I'll be looking for your next review.

I think you meant "omniscient" (instead of "omnipotent") when Ginny, Hermione, & Ron were watching Dumbledore speaking with occupants of the Hospital Wing. But thank you for using "pique" (instead of "peak" or "peek" as I've seen elsewhere)! :-)

Nice discussion of Nott & Zabini; Ron's being quite the prat.

(Did Hermione cancel her Silencing & Muting spells?)

Oh -- "grumbled cheerfully" is a lovely oxymoron. :-)

Author's Response: Thanks for your review and I apologize for waiting so long to respond to it. I'm glad you like the discussion. I'm trying to keep an open mind about those two characters. By the way, I took it for granted that Hermione canceled her spells as she and Ron left. Good catch. I look forward to hearing your opinion of Chapter Eighteen.
