Seems to me that if folks in such a Bond are (as has been mentioned in other stories involving similar Bonds) very unlikely to survive long after the death of their Bondmate, that would be a reasonable basis for classifying Ginny's elimination of Lucius as a threat as "self defense" -- his threat against Harry was also an imminent threat againist Ginny. Granted, that's a rather more involved thought process than likely ran through her mind at the time... but it could be enough to keep her out of Azkaban, even if she were accused of murder. Of course, disclosing the basis of the reasoning might not be preferred, but it could be better than Azkaban -- or a Dementor's Kiss.
Interesting rationale for the working of the Room of Requirement, there. :-}

Author's Response: Thanks - and yes, it would seem that a bond of that sort would be a matter of self-defense. Can you imagine being 'in' someone's mind when they died? !!!!!
