~*~Chapter 8- Final Battle~*~

It had been four years since Ginny had received her short letter from Harry. She had not heard anything from him since then. Ginny had not given up hope, but she had to get on with her life. She new she could never be with another man, because she would always love Harry, but she was tired of hiding what he meant to her. She had found a way to take the spell off her ring. That way everyone could see that Harry loved her, and she would never give up. Ginny was now nineteen and in her second year in medi-witch training program to become a Healer.

Ginny lay in her room of her one bedroom flat about a mile from the training building and two away from the Ministry. The sun from the window bathing the bed; which made Ginny’s red hair look like fire. Ginny, grumbling, pulled a pillow over her head, intending on going back to sleep. However, a very persistent owl kept pecking at the window.

After waiting awhile to see if it would go way, which it did not, she got up and went to the window. A big brown tawny owl sat perched on the windowsill. At sight of Ginny, he held out his leg and let her get the letter, before taking off in a hurry. Ginny watched the bird fly off, and looked back down at the parchment in her hands. It was from her mother, but whose owl was that? She opened it up.

Ginny,

I made a blueberry pie. Come to 12 and have some.

Love,
Mum

Ginny’s heart quickened pace. Blueberry was their code for emergency, and 12 must have meant Grimmauld Place. Ginny quickly dressed and flooed over to Number 12 Grimmauld Place.

Harry paced around the cave they had called home for the past years. Tonight was the night. He was to face his mortal enemy. After all these years, it was going to be over. He had sent a letter to Moody asking for back up along with a sack of the ingenious coins Hermione had perfected back in fifth year. He ran his fingers over the one in his pocket, along with the locket he kept right next to it. He wasn’t worried if he had enough help to hold off the Death Eaters, because over the past years, with Hermione’s help, he and Ron had become very skilled wizards and take on anyone if they had too. However, he had to concentrate tonight on the worst one of them all. He also hoped Moody would handle Ginny the way he asked. Harry knew how Ginny could be and how stubborn she was. He only hoped that she would do what he asked.

“Harry, you feeling ok?”

Hermione.

“Yeah, just a little jittery. And I hope Moody got the letter and it wasn’t intercepted.”

“It wasn’t. The owl just returned with an ‘Ok’ from Moody,” Ron walked up with Moody’s letter in hand.

“Good, good. Now there’s only a bit of waiting to do, then it happens. We can finally get back to the life we left, but without living in fear,” Harry spoke softly but said volumes. Ron and Hermione agreed and sat down on a log big enough for two and just sat there holding hands. Harry watched on in jealousy. He had left his Ginny behind to come fight this war, and live out his destiny. Harry was very happy for his friends, but couldn’t help this feeling. He wanted his Ginny. The only thing was if she still wanted him. The look of fear must have shown because Ron, of all people, spoke up.

“She still loves you mate. She has since she was three, and she will until she’s three hundred,” Ron said smiling.

Harry couldn’t help but grin. Ron had matured so much on this journey. He really lived up to his duties. Harry sighed and his thoughts went back to Ginny.

Ginny stepped out of the fire and into a packed kitchen. She was apparently the last to arrive. She took a seat next to Remus and Headmistress McGonagall. Others there were Moody, Kingsley Shacklebolt, Tonks (who was sitting next to Remus, holding his hand, Ginny smiled at that), five or ten people she didn’t know but assumed were Aurors, all her brothers save Ron, her mother and father, Fleur and the baby, Christian Weasley, three years old.

“Ginny, dear, what took you so long? We’ve been waiting a while. Tea dear?” Mrs. Weasley bustled forward pouring her tea in to a cup.

Blushing, Ginny replied, “Sorry Mum. I was having a bit of a lie in, seeing as had no classes today.”

“No worries, no worries. Alastor, I believe you can start now,” Remus said.

“Right. Now Listen up, there’s not much time. The final battle is tonight.”

Gasps came from everyone, and Ginny dropped her teacup. It went clashing to the floor and all eyes were on her. Her mother stepped in, cleaning up the cup and giving her more. Mrs. Weasley gestured to Moody to go on.

“As you all know, Potter, Granger and Weasley have all been off on a mission to defeat the Dark Lord for four years now. I received this letter (holding a well worn piece of paper) this morning from Harry, as well as these,” Moody said and dropped a sack of what sounded like gold. Moody up ended the bag, and sure enough, it was galleons. He passed on to each member of the room.

“Excuse me, but what is gold going to do?” asked a sandy-haired man she didn’t know. She knew exactly what these were.

“Harry will use these to tell you when the battle starts, won’t he?” Ginny asked a rather rhetorical question, looking straight at Moody.

“How did you know that missy?” Moody counter-asked, both eyes, normal and magical, on her.

“Harry used the same idea when he led the DA. He gave us all one, telling when the next meeting was,” Ginny said fingering the coin, unaware that everyone was looking at her again. “It was Hermione, though, who thought of it first.”

“Right, well, yes. That is the main idea of these coins here. When Harry needs our help, he’ll charm our coins. They will heat up and when you grasp them, they will Portkey you to the place. We haven’t much time so no one is allowed to leave the premises,” Moody spoke over the crowd.

“I will cook lunch for those who wants it,” Mrs. Weasley said, and soon was running about the kitchen making sandwiches, soup and pies.

Ginny couldn’t believe it. It was going to end tonight one way or another. She may never see Harry again. No, she scolded herself, I must not think that way. Harry will come back to me. And for the first time in four years, she let herself cry. She felt the hot tears rolling down her face. Ginny wiped them away furiously.

“Lass, Harry asked me to give this to you,” Moody had come up behind her and placed another strip of parchment in front of her. She recognized the handwriting immediately. Ginny cautiously picked it up.

Gin,

I know this is going to be hard for you to do, but please do not come tonight. I am not doubting your strength, because believe me, I hate being on the wrong end of a Bat Bogey, but I have a lot to do tonight and I don’t know well I could protect you. I have to concentrate tonight and I couldn’t bear to see you hurt. I can’t live without you, and what good am I if I don’t care if I live or die, because if anything happened to you, I wouldn’t care what happened to me. Just know I love you. I have since the moment I saw you, eleven years old on the train station that day, and (not to get Ron in trouble) you have loved me since you were three. Please hold on to me for at least twenty-four more hours.

Forever yours,
Harry

It was about all Ginny could do from not curling into a ball on the floor and crying right there. She had to get out of here. She stood up and pocketed Harry’s letter, and went to make her way out of the kitchen but ran into her mother. One look into her mother’s eyes, she broke down. She grasped her mother and cried on her shoulder. Mrs. Weasley had not been expecting that, but her arms went instinctively around her daughter, whispering comforting words in her ear. She motioned for Mr. Weasley to get Ginny so she could make her a Sleeping potion.

It wasn’t long after Ginny was put down in her bed that the coins started growing hot and everyone save Mrs. Weasley and a few Aurors to keep order at Grimmauld, were Portkeyed away.

Mrs. Weasley went up to check on Ginny a little while after they had left. She peeked in the door and screamed bloody murder. Both Aurors came bounding up the stairs to find Ginny gone.

“Well, now is better than never, don’t you guess?” Harry said, looking at Ron to Hermione. They both nodded and followed Harry outside the cave.

“Grab my arms, tight.” Harry instructed. Once Ron and Hermione were safely clinging to him, he thought of their destination, and after a short feeling of being shoved through a small rubber hose, they we standing in front of the most sinister looking place they had ever seen.

Malfoy Manor.

As if on cue, twenty or so soft pops were heard and Death Eaters were everywhere. Spells flying, bouncing off the stones of the mansion, trees exploding in to millions of splinters. Harry reached in his pocket while holding off five Death Eaters. He activated his coin and within seconds, the Order started to appear. After about five minutes of battle, Harry saw a break and ran to the front door and to hear is name being called out.

“HARRY!” Ron yelled. Harry turned to see Ginny lying on the ground. His stomach dropped to his feet and shot off toward her. When he got within range, he yelled.

“Ron, Hermione give me protection.”

They nodded and when Harry knelt down four walls of red and gold brick appeared around him, shielding him and Ginny from spell firing.

“Oh Ginny... why didn’t you listen to me? I can’t stand seeing you like this,” Harry moaned. But then he noticed something. She wasn’t hurt. She was asleep. Why was she asleep? Then Harry thought about something and checked her pockets, sure enough, there was a coin. She was sent her on accident. Mrs. Weasley must have given her a Sleeping potion. Damn, he thought, she did do what I asked but was sent here anyway. I have got to keep these walls up.

Harry cast a Disillusionment charm on her, took down the walls stepped away from her, conjured the walls again and cast another Disillusionment charm on the walls. Harry didn’t have time to survey the structure, for just then, Lord Voldemort appeared in the middle of the battle. It seemed as though all the warmth had been sucked from the air, like if a herd of Dementors had appeared. Even stopped to watch, even the Death Eaters paused for a minute before getting back to the fighting.

Just then thirty or some members of the old DA had appeared and joined in fighting. Hermione had activated her coin. Neville came running up, along with Luna and Ernie MacMillan. And the all circled Harry, along with Hermione and Ron, and provided protection to Harry so they could make their way to Voldemort. If one of the circle members were taken out someone else took their place, until it was only Hermione, Ron and order members.

Finally, Harry was right in front of Voldemort, but circle still remained around, but it grew bigger with more people holding off the Death Eaters. Harry made sure to keep Voldemort’s attention so not to take out anyone from the circle.

“Why hello Tom, long time no see,” Harry said as if he was having tea.

“Indeed long time. But no one will see you after tonight I’m afraid,” taunted Voldemort in his high-pitched voice. “But before I kill you, I shall provide you with some entertainment. Watch this, please Harry.”

Voldemort shot a spell at Ron knocking him out of the way, and then he pointed his wand directly at an empty blurry spot on the edge of the woods. He cast a spell and the Disillusionment charms broke down. The walls crumbled and there was Ginny, fast asleep on the grass.

“Well, this won’t do, she needs to be awake. Enervate,” he said and Ginny stirred.

“Crucio!”

Ginny’s screams echoed throughout the clearing and Malfoy Manor. Everyone turned to look, some tired to help, like the Weasley men, but they could get to her for the Death Eaters.

Harry watched in horror as Ginny writhed in pain and screamed out.

“Crucio!”

“HARRRRYYYYYY”

T hat was all Harry needed to hear, he cast the killing curse, but it was easily deflected.

“Ah, don’t you remember Mr. Potter, our wands do not function properly against each other,” drawled Voldemort, still torturing Ginny.

“How could I forget Tom,” Harry said barely above a whisper, but enough hate dripping off his words to get the attention of the evil wizard. Right then Harry pulled about another wand, his mother’s. Before Voldemort could react, he was hit with a spell.

“ARMATUS!”

White light engulfed Voldemort’s body. He screamed in pain as love fled through him. The light kept streaming from Harry’s wand tip. Everyone turned to discover where the light was coming from. Harry then began naming off names.

“Lily. James. Sirius. Dumbledore. Remus. Ron. Hermione. Ginny.”

As he spoke each name, the light grew whiter. By the time he got to Ginny’s name, the light was so bright; everyone had to shield their eyes.

“ME!!” Harry yelled. The light went out. There lay a body of an older looking Tom Riddle, before the transformations. Tom looked up at Harry, fear clearly written in his eyes.

“Avada Kedavra!” Harry shouted.

Lord Voldemort was dead.
