The quiet solitude of the nighttime let their traumas come to life and sink in. It was the absence of their parents’ hugs and comforts that made them curl themselves into a ball; it was the dreary walls and strange faces that made them rock themselves in an attempt at comfort; but it was the traumas of their all-too-recent pasts that made them cry and moan, the knowledge that life as they knew it was forever over that made them wish for nothing more than for the nightmares to end. It was on these nights, the nights of new arrivals, that the lad known as Sonar would take to wandering through the hallways of the dormitories, listening for the cries of a new orphan so that he might offer the lad or lass a bit of comfort and reassurance.
