The common room was louder than any other day thought Harry as he retreated from the boys’ staircase. He glanced over the circular room; it was packed with students. He looked over to where most of the students seemed to be.

It was the notice board. Sighing Harry made his way over towards it, weaving in and out of the sea of students; he realized Ron and Hermione were missing from the picture. probably in a broom cupboard somewhere thought Harry. He was extremely pleased when they got together but they were often going off, leaving Harry alone.
Harry gazed at the notice board.

Hogsmead weekend
Saturday 14th February

Great, it’s also Valentine’s Day Harry thought gloomily
Harry started to make his way back to the boys’ staircase when….

"Hey Harry!”

"Hi G-Ginny." Harry said turning

"Did you see the notice board?"

Harry’s stomach did a sort of flip. is she asking me out?

"Yeah, the Hogsmead trip. Are you going with someone?” Harry wanted to kick himself. I just had to ask didn't I! Potter you fool!

"Yes, with Dean, we're dating” Like it would matter to Harry anyway , Ginny thought furious at herself for still not getting over him.

"Good" Harry said through clenched teeth, he felt like he wanted to punch something, or in fact someone.

"What about you?"

"What about me?" Harry said confused

"Well aren't you going with someone? I mean your so good looking, I'm sure you'd have no trouble" said Ginny, her eyes grew wide realising what she had said.

" You think so do you?" Harry grinned

"Um-, well yeah," Ginny stuttered, her cheeks glowing

"I love it when you do that," Harry smiled slowly staring at her rosy cheeks

" Do what?"

"N-nothing" Harry stammered. "- And no I'm going alone."

"What about Ron and Hermione?"

"Well it is Valentine's day, so I figured they might want to be alonel."

"That's very sweet of you Harry"

"Thanks, maybe we could have a quick drink or something?" Harry asked hopefully

"That would be great, well I don’t think the date will last the whole trip so I'll meet you around... five?"

"Yeah, in The Three Broomsticks?"

"Excellent, five o'clock in The Three Broomsticks," said Ginny smiling

"Hi Harry!"

"Hullo Dean" Harry said with a strained smile

"Hey Gorgeous!" Dean said to Ginny kissing her neck softly

"Dean, stop!" Ginny murmured, pulling away slightly

“What’s the matter?” Dean demanded

“Not now, alright?” Ginny persisted

“Fine,” Dean said “Dinner’s about to start, want to go?”

“Sure,” Ginny sighed slowly “Coming Harry?”

“No, I’m not really very hungry,” Harry, said as Dean pulled Ginny towards the portrait hole. The truth was he didn't want to see Dean fawn over Ginny, and for Dean's own safety it is probably best he didn't join them.

*

Ginny glanced at the back of Dean’s head as he pulled her along the corridor. She did care for Dean, but he wasn’t Harry, she knew Dean cared a lot for her but it was by luck they got together. He said he had always had a crush on her; she had never really looked at him that way. She had broken up with Michael and was feeling lonely so she asked Dean out and he said yes. That had been at the end of last year, they had written a lot to each other, though he always had more to say than she had.
Dean stopped suddenly and slowly turned to look at her.

“What is it Dean?” Ginny asked

“Why did you stop me in the common room?” Dean replied.

Ginny squirmed uncomfortably; his grasp on her wrist was becoming painful.

“What do you mean?” Ginny said trying to keep the stammer out of her voice.

“Well I tried to kiss you and you stopped me.” Dean said his voice rising slightly

“W-well we were in a public place,” Ginny said quickly

“We’re alone now,” Dean said slowly stepping towards her.

His hands moved towards her shoulders in a very strong grip. He leaned forwards.

“Dean!” Ginny said suddenly “I’m really hungry,”

Dean stared at her through narrow eyes, let go of her shoulders and brushed past her.

“I’m not hungry anymore,” Dean, said in a cold voice without even turning to look at her, he made his way back towards the portrait hole.

Ginny stared after him even when out of sight. She finally made her way to the great hall wiping the silent tears from her face.

so, here it is, Valentine's day. My first valentine’s day with Dean. Okay so he's not Harry, but he treats me with respect and is kind and quite good looking. He is such a sweet boy and cares about me so much, but the only fault with him is the fact, he is NOT Harry. God girl, get a grip and face the truth! Harry does not like you in that way, get over it and move on! Yes that is what I've got to do! She smiled triumphantly

Okay, almost time to meet Dean downstairs. She was still confused about the other night, but she couldn’t blame him all he wanted to do was kiss her, she was his girlfriend, but it didn’t seem right.

Ginny looked at herself in the mirror, not bad she thought to herself. She had decided to wear muggle clothing today. She wore a plain blue tank top, which was a tad tight, but not so tight it looked tarty, dark blue jeans, which hugged her curves perfectly, and her long straight red hair, glossy in a high ponytail. A small pendant hung loosely around her neck; it was the shape of a heart with a small emerald placed securely in the middle. She touched it softly. Harry had given it to her for Christmas.

Slowly she walked down the staircase to the common room. Dean was standing there his back too her pacing somewhat nervously.

"Hey," said Ginny

"Hi Ginny," Dean said as he turned, when he saw her; his mouth dropped open. "Wow! You look great!"

"Thanks, Shall we go?"

"Yes, lets!"
She took his arm and they walked out of the portrait hole, unaware they were being watched by a certain black haired boy.

Whenever Ginny came Hogsmead village, she was always fascinated by it, as if it was her first time every time. It was like a picture of a Christmas card. Though it was February, the snow had not left and it looked so beautiful. She sighed contentedly

"What do you want to do first?" Dean said, breaking Ginny's thoughts

"Why don't we just walk around?” Ginny suggested; she loved the outdoors.

"Okay" Dean agreed. “I like your necklace,”

“T-Thanks,” Ginny said clutching it slightly

“Where did you get it?” Dean said casually

“Harry gave it to me for Christmas,” Ginny said quickly

Dean stiffened at the mention of Harry’s name but kept silent.

“I wore it because it’s pretty, and I-I wanted to look pretty for you,” Ginny rushed out

Dean seemed satisfied with that answer so they walked around the peaceful village, Dean doing most of the talking, Ginny just nodding and saying 'yes' here and there. I bet Harry wouldn’t drag on like this, no he would hug me and tell me how much I mean to him and-

"Ginny?"

"Mmm?" she blushed, she couldn’t believe she was thinking about Harry on a date with someone else.

"Were you even listening?" Dean said, he sounded cross

"Yes!" Ginny replied, it was a sort of reflex

"Oh, come on Ginny!"

"I'm sorry, today my mind is elsewhere,” Ginny said looking away for a moment

Dean studied her for a moment as if piecing something together.

“So, what were you thinking about?” Dean said slowly

“How nice it is here,” Ginny said quickly her cheeks burning now

Dean didn’t seem satisfied but he said nothing. His arm wove around her waist and he pulled her close. Ginny could feel his breath in her hair and she didn’t like it. He pulled her to a woody area; she had never been this far away from the main village. He pushed her toward a tree and her back slammed against it. He pushed against her so tightly she could hardly breathe. He began to kiss her jaw line before going towards her neck. She couldn’t stand it any longer she pushed him away.

“Please don’t,” Ginny said as she moved away from the tree

"Look, I’ve had enough!” Dean said flinging his arms above his head to emphasize the gesture. “You don’t let me touch you or kiss you and you never listen to anything I say,”

"Dean I, -!" Ginny stuttered, but it was no use, she knew he was right. "Look, I'm really sorry Dean."

“Sorry?” Dean said in disbelief “That’s all you can say?!”

Ginny stared at him, What was she supposed to say?

“I know you don’t like me as much as I like you, but do you have to openly show you like someone else?” Dean shouted, his voice echoing slightly in the enclosed woodland area.

“What are you talking about?” Ginny said hotly, but she knew exactly whom he was talking about.

“Potter!” Dean spat “It’s always Harry this or Harry that or Dean did you hear what Harry said? I don’t bloody care for what he thinks, says or does!”

“Dean please,” Ginny tried

“No! In all the letters we sent to each other you always said something about him, I ignored it at the time but now I see,” Dean said but he didn’t seem to be talking directly to her; it was more to himself. “You still like him!”

“No Dean I-” Ginny grabbed his hand

Dean looked at her, then to his hand and then to her face. He wrenched his hand away from hers.

“It’s all Harry’s fault!” Dean said looking around wildly “I’ll teach him to mess with my girl!”

“Dean!” Ginny shouted tears streaming sown her face “Stop, please!”

Dean ignored her and started to walk away, looking around. Ginny jogged to keep up with him.

“I’ll kill him,” Dean muttered to himself and gripping his wand. Ginny stepped in front of him.

“Get of my way,” Dean said furiously

“No!” Ginny said placing her hands in front to block him completely “I won’t let you hurt him,”

“Ah, so now you stick up for him?” Dean said coldly still looking round

“Listen, let’s calm down and talk,” Ginny said in a soft voice

“I don’t want to talk! Now move,” Dean said as he shoved her but Ginny stood her ground.

She was starting to get annoyed.

“Dean! Stop, I mean it,” Ginny said dangerously

Dean continued to try to move her.

SLAP!

Dean recoiled and clutched his face. He glared at her and raised his own hand. Ginny immediately cowered and retreated slowly until her back was against a nearby tree. Her eyes grew wide in terror and she started to tremble in fear. She looked around for help but seeing no one she bit her lip and tasted the coppery flavour of blood.

She closed her eyes waiting for the blow, when it didn’t come she took a chance to look. Dean had followed her his hand still raised but the angry expression had gone. He looked scared himself and he looked at his hand as if it didn’t belong to him.

“DEAN!” shouted an angry voice behind him

Ginny peered around Dean cautious to the fact that his hand was still raised. Harry was standing there his fists clenched and Ginny had never seen him so angry. In an instant Harry had Dean pressed against another tree by his collar with his wand at Dean’s throat. Dean’s feet barely touched the ground. Dean’s head was bowed and he looked so ashamed.

“If you EVER touch Ginny again, you will regret it!” Harry said in a hushed voice

“Harry don’t!” Ginny begged as she pulled on Harry’s arm

Harry’s grip tightened on Dean’s collar but he looked at Ginny with soft eyes.

“Ginny, he was going to hurt you,” Harry said as he shot an evil glare at Dean who hadn’t looked up.

“I don’t think he would’ve Harry,” Ginny continued “Put him down,”

Harry let go of the collar and Dean collapsed to the floor, Harry looked down on him in disgust. Never would he have thought Dean to attempt to hit anyone.

Ginny knelt down beside Dean, her hand on his shoulder.

“Look Dean everything you said was true, and I don’t think it was fair on you to find out this way. I really care for you but it’s no more than friendship. Please forgive me. I really hope for us to be friends.” Ginny finished and dropped her hand from his shoulder

Dean looked up, his eyes wide and sorrowful.

“Ginny I am so sorry for everything I said and almost did, I don’t know what came over me,” Dean bowed his head again “You will be hard to get over, I really cared for you,”

“Yeah, well if you really cared then you wouldn’t have tried to hit her would you!” Harry shot at Dean

“I’m sorry, it’s just I got so angry I-,” Dean stopped “Please forgive me, I want to still be friends,”

“I forgive you Dean,” Ginny said without hesitation, ignoring the looks she was getting from Harry.

Dean rose and looked at Ginny before embracing her in a brief hug.

“I’m sorry,” Dean whispered in her ear before breaking away.

Ginny smiled while Harry glared.

Dean turned to Harry and held out his hand.

“I’m sorry, I don’t want this to get in the way of our friendship,” Dean said quietly

Harry looked at Dean’s hand as if it were a Blast-ended skrewt. He then looked over at Ginny who nodded with narrow eyes. Sighing heavily he held out his hand which Dean shook but Harry let go after about a second. Dean nodded briefly, and looked back at Ginny.

“Be happy.” He mouthed to her before walking away slowly.

“That son of a b-,” Harry began he teeth clenched together.

“Harry, you don’t know the story” Ginny said quietly “ I really hurt him and then I slapped him, I don’t blame him,”

“What?!” said Harry “Whatever you did he had no right to hit you,”

“-But he didn’t and if he had done what I had done to him, I would have shown him no mercy either,” Ginny said beginning to cry

“No, please don’t cry,” Harry, said enveloping her in a warm hug.

“Harry! I’m a horrible person,” Ginny cried

She started to realise of what she had done and if Dean had done that to her, she couldn’t think about it. She just cried and cried in Harry’s arms. She felt awful, how could she have done that? It was practically cheating on Dean. Harry held onto to her and kissed her cheek. Ginny looked up at Harry and touched her face where he had kissed it.

“I’m sorry,” Harry started “I thought it would be comforting,”

“Thank you Harry,” Ginny hugged him tightly

“What did you do to Dean then?” Harry asked

“Well, I stopped him whenever he tried to kiss me and the truth is I have feelings for someone else,” Ginny said looking at her feet but Harry saw her blushing madly.

Harry’s heart dropped like a stone. she likes someone else . He had to know who it was.

“Who?” Harry said his voice louder than he had intended

Ginny looked startled for a minute. Harry looked at her apologetically.

“Um, well I-I err-,” Ginny stammered “I can’t-,”

“It’s fine, it was rude of me to ask,” Harry said glancing down at his shuffling feet.

Ginny closed her eyes and looked at him. They were friends he would understand even if he didn’t feel the same. He would respect her enough not to laugh or run away. She let out the breath she hadn’t realised she was holding and looked into his beautiful green eyes.

“It’s you Harry,” Ginny said closing her eyes once more

Harry was silent, Did she just say what I think she said? . Ginny had closed her eyes. She looked so beautiful. Her hair stood out so brightly against the white snow. He never had a chance to look at her so long for when he tried she always saw him and he had to pretend to look elsewhere. He counted her freckles that ran along her smooth creamy skin from one cheek, across her nose to the other cheek. When she was happy or excited he could feel the energy radiating off her. She was so full of life. She was brilliant. She was perfection to him. Ginny opened her eyes and they blew Harry away. The shapes of her eyes were perfect almonds and the richest of browns.

Ginny opened her eyes to find Harry staring at her, his mouth twisted into a lopsided smile. He looked so handsome and his eyes stood out while contrasting with his messy black hair. Her eyes lingered on his hair; though it was extremely messy having it any other way wouldn’t suit him. She loved his hair and always had the urge to run her fingers through it. It looked so soft and shiny. She realised he still hadn’t said anything and she opened her mouth to say so when Harry pulled her into a short but sweet kiss. He broke away and looked slightly shocked at what he just done, but Ginny smiled. It was obvious to her he hadn’t had much experience but she was willing to help with that.

“You’re wearing the necklace I gave you,” Harry beamed while picking up the small pendant and fiddling with it slowly.

“Thank you for it, it’s beautiful,” Ginny said placing her hand upon his hand, which was still holding the pendant

“You’re beautiful,” Harry said letting go of the pendant to cup her small face in his hands. Ginny blushed.

Harry brought her face to his and this kiss lasted much longer and Ginny finally got her wish; to run her hands through his unruly mess of hair.

Breaking away he moved picked up her hand and pulled her gently towards the village. They walked back to the carriages to return to Hogwarts, their fingers locked together.
